Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's a very scalable tool that can be used in a very small environment or in a very large environment. Everything can be managed from a simple dashboard and can be scaled up or down depending on the customer's environment.""Microsoft Defender's most critical component is its CASB solution. It has many built-in policies that can improve your organization's cloud security posture. It's effective regardless of where your users are, which is critical because most users are working from home. It's cloud-based, so nothing is on-premise.""The visibility into threats is also very impressive because Microsoft helps you predict things and provides analytics to help you really improve your security. And all of this technology works across the domain, so it is pretty helpful in terms of threat analytics.""We are able to consolidate licences and make use of many Microsoft products using this solution. If we have any Microsoft customers, we encourage them to use this solution for enterprise defence.""I like the easy integration and advanced possibilities. We can implement it at customer sites in a few clicks, but we can also dive deep and drill down to extended features. There's a very good starting point to get into this product and all the features from Defender.""The EDR features are valuable. By getting the EDR features, we have more control over the device. We have information about events in real-time and more protection against zero-day threats and zero-day vulnerabilities. We can monitor every event or action that a device is going through. We can get an idea if it is something malicious or if we have to take any actions.""Defender is easy to use. It has a nice console, and everything is all in one place.""It has been great for us. Previously, we didn't have a solution to protect us, especially from malware, whereas now, we are getting protection up front, especially from the malware attacks coming through emails or endpoints."

"Previously, we had some processes related to incident response which required more steps. We needed to upload to VirusTotal, Sandbox, et cetera. Now, this process is shortened because all of the information we need is already in SentinelOne. We can briefly analyze and even respond from one management console. If someone has SOC, using the API, they can control everything. It's very cool. I think this is the future.""The protection and management provided by SentinelOne is good.""The visibility and, obviously, the protection aspects are second to none when it comes to speed. Another thing we fall back on is the option to roll back an endpoint if it is infected. There is a shadow copy so that if a PC downloads malicious content, we can roll it back to the state it was in before that package was imported.""It's quite scalable.""The product is a lighter client. Our previous solution ran heavy on the workstation and caused performance issues.""We love the API. We use it to generate robust reporting, and we also developed tools to perform agent actions remotely without needing to provide all IT staff with console access.""It is easy to manage and install. It has a very nice graphical interface that is very intuitive when end users are using it. You don't have to follow or read a book about 600 pages to have knowledge on how to use it. When SentinelOne is up and running, you can easily find your way.""SentinelOne is the next-generation EDR solution."

"Wazuh offers numerous features, such as the ability to define custom rules for detecting malicious activities and remembering behaviors.""The most valuable features are the modules and metrics.""I like Wazuh because it is a lot like ELK, which I was already comfortable with, so I didn't have to learn from scratch.""I like the cloud-native infrastructure and that it's free. We didn't have to pay anything, and it has the capabilities of many premium solutions in the market. We could integrate all of our services and infrastructure in the cloud with Wazuh. From an integration point of view, Wazuh is pretty good. I had a good experience with this platform.""Wazuh has very flexible and robust features.""Wazuh's logging features integrate seamlessly with AWS cloud-native services. There are also Wazuh agent configurations for different use cases, like vulnerability scanning, host-based intrusion detection, and file integrity monitoring.""The main thing I like about it is that it has an EDR.""It's stable."

Cons
"There is no common area where we can manage all the policies for the EDR, third-party solutions, devices, servers, Windows, Mac, etc., but it's on the road map, and we ware waiting for that feature.""There are still some components, such as vulnerability management within the vendor product, where improved integration would be beneficial.""Microsoft frequently changes the names of its products, sometimes even renaming entire portals or features.""The mobile app support for Android and iOS is difficult and needs improvement.""Automated playbooks and automated dashboards would be preferable to the way the data is currently being presented.""This solution could be improved if it included features such as those offered by Malwarebytes.""The message trace feature for investigating mail flow issues should add more detailed information to the summary report... if they could extend the summary report a little bit, make it more descriptive, ordinary administrators could understand what happened and that the emails failed at this or that point. That way they would know the location to go to try to correct it and to prevent it from occurring again.""The web filtering solution needs to be improved because currently, it is very simple."

More Microsoft Defender XDR Cons →

"They can just continue adding more integrations with these big brands and software security products.""Singularity Complete's process stream has room for improvement.""Some of the reports that are exported through SentinelOne can be complicated for people who are not IT professionals. For example, we have some people within our leadership who would like to know why we are spending so much money on their product, and one of the ways that we are able to do that is through reports. Some of those reports are pretty easy to understand, and some of them are very complicated. Because they are not IT or security professionals, they may not have the same grasp. I wish their reporting feature was a little better.""Periodically we have an application that does not work correctly when SentinelOne is installed, yet performs as expected when SentinelOne is removed.""The update process can be better. It is very easy to deploy, but over a long period, the updating process can be a little messy. In some EDR solutions, you end up with a very good mechanism to push new versions. It could do with a little work in that area. It is not particularly difficult, but it could do with a little work.""An area for improvement in SentinelOne is the search feature. You can't go beyond twenty thousand events, which ruins the task because it isn't enough when you're doing your investigation.""It seems like they are doing a lot with their automatic updates. They can maybe slow down the actual release cycle to make it easier to deploy the most recent and then do it using the live update. They can continue to work on that because trying to get agent changes through change management platforms and get approvals and testing can be quite difficult.""The solution does not have an application security and control module."

More SentinelOne Singularity Complete Cons →

"Adding the flexibility to integrate various plug-ins or modules into its core system would enhance functionality.""Wazuh is missing many things that a typical SIEM should have.""A lack of certain features creates limitations.""Wazuh could improve the detection, it is not detecting all of the attacks. Additionally, it is lacking features compared to other solutions.""Wazuh doesn't cover sources of events as well as Splunk. You can integrate Splunk with many sources of events, but it's a painful process to take care of some sources of events with Wazuh.""Wazuh needs more security and features, particularly visualization features and a health monitor.""Since it's an open-source tool, scalability is the main issue.""Alerts should be specific rather than repeatedly triggered by integrating multiple factors. This issue needs improvement to create a more efficient alert system."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solutions price is fair for what they offer."
  • "The price could be better. Normally, the costs depend on the country you're located in for the license. When we were in the initial stage, we went with the E5 license they call premium standard. It cost us around $5.20 per month for four users."
  • "The price of the solution is high compared to others and we have lost some customers because of it."
  • "Microsoft is not competitive with the pricing of the solution. The competitors are able to offer lower discounts. The price of the solution is higher."
  • "We have a lot of problems in Latin America regarding the price of Microsoft 365 Defender, because the relationship between dollars and the money of the different countries, it's is a lot. Many customers that have small businesses say that they would like the solution but it is too expensive. However, large companies do not find the cost an issue."
  • "The most valuable licensing option is expensive, so pricing could be improved. Licensing options for this solution also need to be consolidated, because they frequently change."
  • "Microsoft should provide lower-level licensing options. They should do it in such a way that even an individual could purchase a license, and it should be entirely flexible."
  • "They have moved from a licensing model to pay-per-use... The question is: What happens if, for any reason, there's not enough budget to accept this model? That could be a great problem."

  • "The price is competitive, if you compare it with other solutions on the market."
  • "Spend money on the security for the endpoint."
  • "The price for it is very competitive compared to other Next Gen EPP."
  • "The per-seat cost is low, but you have to commit to a certain number of licenses for a year."
  • "The larger count you have, the deeper discount you will receive in your contract."
  • "Our licensing fees are about $5 USD per endpoint, per month."
  • "USD$6 per end point which decreases as end points increase."
  • "Pricing is a bit of a pain point. That's where we have not been able to convince all of our customers to use SentinelOne. The pricing is still on the higher side. It's almost double the price, if not more, of a normal antivirus, such as NOD32, Kaspersky, or Symantec."

  • "Wazuh is open-source, so I think it's an option for a small organization that cannot go for enterprise-grade solutions like Splunk."
  • "There is not a license required for Wazuh."
  • "Wazuh is open-source, but you must consider the total cost of ownership. It may be free to acquire, but you spend a lot of time and effort supporting the product and getting it to a point where it's useful."
  • "Wazuh is open-source, therefore it is free. You can purchase support for $1,000 a year."
  • "Wazuh is totally free and open source. There are no licensing costs, only support costs if you need them."
  • "Wazuh has a community edition, and I was using that. It's free and open source."
  • "The current pricing is open source."

Jeff D. who is an Operations Manager at Proton Dealership IT, tells us that "The detection rate for Sentinel One has been excellent and we have been able to resolve many potential threats with zero client impact. The ability to deploy via our RMM allows us to quickly secure new clients and provides peace of mind."

"The most valuable feature varies from client to client but having absolute clarity of what happened and the autonomous actions of SentinelOne are what most people find the most assuring." relates Rae J., Director IR and MDR at a tech services company.
