We compared Acronis Cyber Protect and Veeam Backup & Replication across several parameters based on our users' reviews. After reading the collected data, you can find our conclusion below:
Comparison Results: Acronis Cyber Protect is praised for its user-friendly interface, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness. However, there are some limitations such as issues with Check Point, difficulties with configuring reporting with Office 365, and the need for better integration with other cybersecurity solutions. Veeam Backup & Replication is valued for its simplicity, ease of use, and effectiveness in backup and recovery. Improvement areas for Veeam include cost, integration with storage and cloud solutions, scalability, and support. Acronis Cyber Protect may have an advantage in terms of its user-friendly interface and backup features, while Veeam Backup & Replication may have an advantage in terms of simplicity and ease of use.
"The administration is pretty flexible in terms of defining a multi-tenant type of setup."
"The performance has been fine so far."
"In my opinion, it's the best product for end-users and PCs."
"If you need to recover, it's the best recovery software I've ever used and I've been in this business for over 30 years. Plug a disc in and tell it to recover this machine and it's done. You walk away from it and it's done. Reboot it and it's perfect."
"Some of the most valuable features are recovery, protection against malware, and software management. I am happy with the dashboards and user interface."
"Acronis has a very rich functionality."
"The most valuable feature of Acronis Backup is the data recovery and restoration details."
"In terms of system-critical support, Acronis' technical support does really well. I would give them an eight out of ten for that."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup & Replication is that we can back up in-house and multiple cloud providers' storage."
"The solution does a good job with VM backups."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup Replication is application awareness. Additionally, the solution is user-friendly and it has been working very well."
"For virtualization it's perfect."
"The features that I have found most valuable are its back up and recovery. It is a simplified backup because you can do both databases - VM and HyperV. It's a faster backup than the conventional methods because it takes up the bare metal."
"I'm satisfied with tech support, because the solution is so stable that I haven't had the need to engage any of the engineers yet."
"The whole replication aspect of the solution is excellent because it compresses the data so well."
"I like Veeam a lot because it solves problems, is stable, and runs very well."
"If there was a wizard that would lead you down a road, when creating a backup, that would probably be better than having to go online or call somebody to actually do a backup. It's not intuitive..."
"This might be a lack of understanding on my part, but it's difficult to purge old backups."
"When you are using enterprise hardware and software that increases over time, there need to be better and more management features. For pure backup software, it is fine, but when it comes to managing a large infrastructure it is lacking."
"We have sometimes issues with the child copies and other similar functions, but it's normal with any backup solution. We need to fix those issues first in order for us to be able to do the backup properly."
"I would change the GUI a little to make it a bit more interactive. It should have a slightly more updated look, not something which looks like it was designed five years ago despite the fact it is easy to follow and very appealing."
"The solution could use a single sign-on integration that can default to the admin dashboard. Right now, it's only username and password. If you had had an additional two-factor authentication, this would be beneficial for me."
"When I first started using Acronis, I found it a little bit confusing when it came to the configuration."
"They've got an agent to back up Microsoft SQL, to our Office 365, but there is not an agent to back up my SQL databases."
"Recovery speed is slow. Full recovery on large machines (1TB+) takes too long"
"The pricing could be improved."
"The implementation was straightforward. However, we used an integrator, the process could be easier for us to do it ourselves."
"Physical backup is always where room for improvement could be but Veeam has always stated they are not going in that direction."
"The implementation of the features can be improved. Currently, there is no segregation of duty. Normally, any backup software or client service software is implemented in a way where one person is responsible for the implementation of the server, and one is responsible for the client, but Veeam Backup & Replication is not implemented in that way. Therefore, restores don't work like that. The backup guys have to do the restores, which is not a good thing. Its pricing should also be improved. It is quite expensive."
"The reporting feature can be improved."
"The price can be a bit expensive."
"I have also been struggling with the storage and in some cases I need to move things due to performance."

Acronis:
-Modern mobile-enabled web interface
-Touch-friendly, works on tablets
-21st century look and feel
Veeam:
-Basic outdated windows interface
-Windows only – no mobile devices
-Ancient look and feel
Veeam is a good easy to use backup solution. But it has some limitations when you have an HCI Infrastructure like Nutanix.
Veeam BEM though can manage the jobs in Nutanix but if I need to fetch any reports for compliance requirements, it's not available. BEM will provide reports only if you are using VMWARE or HyperV. hence we are moving towards Rubrik.
First off Azure is not a backup strategy or solution, its an S3 repository. Acronis, Veeam, Rubrik, Cohesity are Enterprise Backup Solutions/EBS that can facilitate an S3 (Cloud-out). Read the Gartner Report on EBS publisehd last Nov 2019 for better insight. - Best, Aaron
I have used Acronis and Veeam and choosing between the two depends on result you expect to get from the Backup Solution. I will advise you try the trial version of both and decide which gives you better result.
That all comes down what exactly you are looking to backup. Virtual, physical, cloud. Nevertheless if you are looking for a simple, reliable, scalable, and flexible solution which has a portable license model that fits all go with Veeam
There is no “proper” answer to your question.
First, before the tool, define your goal as:
- how many systems?
- how many virtual vs physical?
- sizing (even roughly)
- is there some DBs or specific app?
Then time will come to choose the correct tool.
Veeam is a leader. Acronis is a niche player. Veeam is integrated with most storage systems on the market. Functionality - I'd recommend Veeam.
Hi Mark, hope you are well and keeping safe. Would this be for an on-prem, off-prem or hybrid solution you are looking for? For the record, Azure is a Cloud based solution and other vendors like Arcserve, Acronis, Veeam etc...have an on-prem/hybrid solution offerings. Happy to discuss
