We compared Acronis Cyber Protect and Veeam Backup & Replication across several parameters based on our users' reviews. After reading the collected data, you can find our conclusion below:
Comparison Results: Acronis Cyber Protect is praised for its user-friendly interface, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness. However, there are some limitations such as issues with Check Point, difficulties with configuring reporting with Office 365, and the need for better integration with other cybersecurity solutions. Veeam Backup & Replication is valued for its simplicity, ease of use, and effectiveness in backup and recovery. Improvement areas for Veeam include cost, integration with storage and cloud solutions, scalability, and support. Acronis Cyber Protect may have an advantage in terms of its user-friendly interface and backup features, while Veeam Backup & Replication may have an advantage in terms of simplicity and ease of use.
"Acronis Backup is easy to use, intuitive, and has high performance."
"The most valuable feature is the fact that you can archive backups quite easily and minimize the amount of space you're using."
"The main reason we went with Acronis Cyber Protect is because it provides a virtual machine backup feature."
"The most valuable feature is that you can do a bare-metal restore even with dissimilar hardware."
"For me, the cost is a significant advantage."
"Some of the most valuable features are recovery, protection against malware, and software management. I am happy with the dashboards and user interface."
"I like Acronis Cyber Protect's backup process and its management console is intuitive."
"The best thing about it is that we can back up pretty much everything we want to. We don't have to have multiple solutions. It can back up any physical or virtual server, including servers in Azure. It can back up SharePoint, OneDrive, and G Suite. Everything we need to back up can be backed up, and that's why we like it."
"The backup and replication features are most valuable."
"The most valuable features I have found to be Instant Recovery, quick restore and rollback, and asynchronous copy. It is a complete solution for our needs."
"It serves its intended purpose and it works well."
"While I do not recall whether the latest version is 10.0 or 11.0 I do know that it allows one to make a back up repository that is very scalable and simple."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup & Replication is the ease of use."
"Integration with various applications, such as on-premises laptops and desktop backups, as well as applications and databases, is excellent."
"Veeam communicates with the vCenter in VMware, which means it's very smooth and doesn't interrupt production on VMware and you can backup or restore anytime, anywhere."
"The features I find most valuable are probably the VMware snapshot backups and the Veeam replication. Their replication is very good. It can easily be used for disaster recovery in a number of situations."
"If I could create a protected image backup on a computer partition that just would be just for the image backup; and only the program could access it to prevent viruses from getting into it. That would be very, very good."
"When I first started using Acronis, I found it a little bit confusing when it came to the configuration."
"There are some limitations to the backup."
"It could back up more things. I don't think it can back up Box and some of the other third-party ones. Not that we use them that much, but the more they can do, the better it would be. There could also be better integrations with RMM tools."
"They've got an agent to back up Microsoft SQL, to our Office 365, but there is not an agent to back up my SQL databases."
"I've had some issues with the understandability of the interface. I think if they had someone with expertise in user interfaces to look at this, they could clean up the user interface."
"Because Acronis Backup is an on-premises solution, there is extra overhead. It's harder to manage, and there's no real remote access. You have to physically log in to the machine to manage it. The reporting feature works fine, and you will be able to send out reports. However, that is where it stops. The deployment could be improved and could be through a network chain. If we need to deploy two machines that are not connected to the internet but connected to two different networks, it would be great to have a machine with dual mix that has access to the backup server and to those machines. It would be like a relay that you can install on the machine with a two-mix, and that machine can then connect to your backup server and to the other machines. You should be able to see the other machines on that network and be able to deploy to it and push jobs to it."
"I needed tech support to straighten out an issue with cloud backup. I have troubleshooting to do with failed backups."
"If you do not use the standard software and you go with a third-party solution such as this one, it might not work the same. There is an integration issue I understand between the database standards."
"The parallel backup process from the Veeam server to Veeam has some limitations. The number of parallel backups should be increased and the compressional is very low. Sometimes it is half or one-third, but other backup solutions' compression levels are very high."
"In the future, I would like to see better support for direct backup to tape."
"The replicating from Veeam Backup Replication to Azure cloud could be improved."
"Its price is higher than other solutions and can be improved. They can also change the version of the software more often."
"There is some complexity we have experienced when using the solution that should be simplified."
"The whole graphical user interface is very easy, but the details are hidden deeply and aren't easily visible. You cannot easily see the details and explore or choose the settings. We should be able to easily explore various settings and options. If you can see more details while choosing the settings or setting it up, it helps in getting the software running easily. For example, in Microsoft Office, you can see much more in the interface than in Veeam Backup & Replication. It is a complex software. It is not easy to use, and you must know what to do and where to do. The user manual has more than a thousand pages. They should give some direct information through the software and improve the software. On their website, they can have some videos and step-by-step information to make us come straight to our goals."
"Technical support can be improved."

Acronis:
-Modern mobile-enabled web interface
-Touch-friendly, works on tablets
-21st century look and feel
Veeam:
-Basic outdated windows interface
-Windows only – no mobile devices
-Ancient look and feel
Veeam is a good easy to use backup solution. But it has some limitations when you have an HCI Infrastructure like Nutanix.
Veeam BEM though can manage the jobs in Nutanix but if I need to fetch any reports for compliance requirements, it's not available. BEM will provide reports only if you are using VMWARE or HyperV. hence we are moving towards Rubrik.
First off Azure is not a backup strategy or solution, its an S3 repository. Acronis, Veeam, Rubrik, Cohesity are Enterprise Backup Solutions/EBS that can facilitate an S3 (Cloud-out). Read the Gartner Report on EBS publisehd last Nov 2019 for better insight. - Best, Aaron
I have used Acronis and Veeam and choosing between the two depends on result you expect to get from the Backup Solution. I will advise you try the trial version of both and decide which gives you better result.
That all comes down what exactly you are looking to backup. Virtual, physical, cloud. Nevertheless if you are looking for a simple, reliable, scalable, and flexible solution which has a portable license model that fits all go with Veeam
There is no “proper” answer to your question.
First, before the tool, define your goal as:
- how many systems?
- how many virtual vs physical?
- sizing (even roughly)
- is there some DBs or specific app?
Then time will come to choose the correct tool.
Veeam is a leader. Acronis is a niche player. Veeam is integrated with most storage systems on the market. Functionality - I'd recommend Veeam.
Hi Mark, hope you are well and keeping safe. Would this be for an on-prem, off-prem or hybrid solution you are looking for? For the record, Azure is a Cloud based solution and other vendors like Arcserve, Acronis, Veeam etc...have an on-prem/hybrid solution offerings. Happy to discuss
