Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is stable and reliable.""The most valuable feature is its ability to back up and recover our production environment from ransomware.""I would definitely say the backup and recovery. It used to be a separate module. It was a recovery part and it would literally duplicate the machine to bare bones.""It is a very fast and reliable backup, which requires less management and restores quickly.""One of the features I have found most valuable is the restore point - it gives us what we need at the time we need it. The important thing is that the backup for Acronis doesn't depend as much on the device.""I have not used other backup solutions to compare how well the features work but I have found Acronis Backup to be user-friendly, overall easy to use, and performance is good.""The main reason we went with Acronis Cyber Protect is because it provides a virtual machine backup feature.""It's always stable. It's very good, useful, and user-friendly."

"Veritas NetBackup is very user-friendly and has some good quick recovery features.""The backup and restore features work very well.""The backup and restoration are 100 percent guaranteed.""We were evaluating other products and getting confused between Commvault and Veritas NetBackup. The one reason that we started with Veritas NetBackup is the pricing of the license. There's no other reason from a technical perspective or even operation or capability of the two software. The main reason we chose Veritas NetBackup was that in our use case it is more cost-effective.""Disaster recovery primarily involves backup usage. We employ it for both backup and recovery purposes. The backup and recovery processes have been executed multiple times, even restoring data from backups created three to four years ago.""The main features of this solution are deduplication, compression, ease of use, simplistic user interface, and compatibility with all the backup service systems.""Veritas NetBackup Automatic Image Replication and CloudCatalyst features allow me to replicate deduped backup images from one site to a remote site, as well as duplicating deduped images to the Cloud (i.e. AWS S3, etc.)""We were able to witness the benefits of using the solution within weeks of using it."

Cons
"It would be nice to have it on the cloud platform without using third-party equipment.""The licensing approach becomes intricate when dealing with SharePoint.""We needed to have help from the vendor for implementation. The vendor used two personnel. We have system administrators and they do the server backups themself.""The support and documentation must be improved.""Some of the default settings out-of-the-box should already be set up for the novice user. For instance, the warnings that say a hard drive has bad sectors and stops the backup from performing.""It does not delete locked files.""There are a lot of products out there that are a little bit stronger than Acronis where AV is concerned.""Their support process can be quite lengthy...This is an area that needs improvement."

More Acronis Cyber Protect Cons →

"It was very complicated, and it required a lot of work in terms of management. We have moved to Rubrik. One of the reasons for getting rid of Veritas NetBackup was the fact that at one point, we had the support staff with 12 to 15 people to manage Veritas NetBackup, whereas, with Rubrik, I'm the only one managing Rubrik. There is one more person who works with me mostly due to the fact that in case I'm not around, someone else knows what to do, but I'm the only one who is a full-time manager of Rubrik. The complexity of Veritas required a large staff to manage it. We had daily issues that had to be looked into and resolved. A lot of these issues revolved around Veritas' handling of VMware, which is why first we moved VMware off Veritas. After we did that, we were also able to reduce our staff count. Their licensing is a disaster. It is extremely complicated. In most cases, Veritas themselves can't understand their own licensing.""NetBackup's reporting features are a little poor.""The reporting of the backups could be better.""The database integration could be better.""They currently have the Java concept and it should be less intensive and take less load.""NetBackup is a very old product, and it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly.""The solution must provide a different way to schedule backups.""Updates were not always consistent."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Doing what this is capable of doing, the cost of it is in line."
  • "Pricing is what it is. I don't shop around once I find a good solution. I insist they maintain ongoing support year after year for updates and tech support."
  • "I would say that at the pricepoint that it's at, it's definitely worth the money."
  • "It has already paid off itself in the first few months that we implemented it."
  • "When it comes to elements like cost, I think it is the only backup solution which has perpetual licenses, whereby you buy the license once and for all."
  • "I like the pricing, and that it is easy to use and has performed well. "
  • "Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
  • "The pricing is comparable to the newest solution available on the market, Altaro."
  • More Acronis Cyber Protect Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
  • "Smaller virtualized environments will want to stick to a traditional licensing model if possible. It will likely be cheaper, but it is a pain to manage all the individual licenses for each client."
  • "So far I can only say that the license structure could be looked at to be aligned as either capacity-based or traditional."
  • "If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
  • "The software and license are very expensive."
  • "Pricing is pretty costly as compared to the other products but worth investing for the long term and high ROI."
  • "Acceptable if you need to implement it for larger environments, e.g. over 1000 clients. For smaller setups it might be too expensive."
  • "The licensing model is cost-prohibitive as you scale out."

    Hi Shashi,

NetBackup is an enterprise tool and Acronis is for private/small companies (in my opinion).

If you have a plan for ~150 servers then Acronis is a NO WAY for you (only if you have the time to prepare snapshots for each individual system one by one).

Technically NetBackup is a more reliable and comprehensive product as compare to Acronis.

NetBackup has integration with all major business products like MS SQL Server, MS Exchange Server, IBM, SAP, HANNA, Share point and Active Directory.

You can backup and restore full VM in NetBackup as well as BMR too for P2V.

Acronis has limited features in comparison with Netbackup.

Netbackup is a vast product. If you need any assistance you may drop a few lines and I will help you out.

What types of data sets will you be backing up? Also how much data total are we talking about?  Will you be backing up traditional (full/Incremental)?

Ok, I'm seeing that no one knows/mentioned what Acronis Cyber Protect is.

Acronis is not an image tool anymore but it's a complete data security product. It has anti-malware, ransomware protection, immutable storage option, cross hypervisor backup and disaster function, P2V, V2P V2V Universal restore capabilities and very good coverage of enterprise application support.

    Both are good backup tools.

I have a one-to-one comparison. But, if you want to use BMR I suggest you go with Acronis cyber Backup because Acronis is the best solution provider for image backup and recovery for different kinds of environments.

Acronis has good support for different kinds of storage and inline data deduplication. Built-in network management for lower bandwidth from clients to the server. Support any-to-any migration and a user-friendly web console.

Always talk to your solution provider about fulfilling your all requirements. Possibly, conduct PoC before your purchase, check partner support services and the roadmap of the product.

Always choose the solution which will serve your requirements for the next 5 years (or more) as per your hardware lifecycle.

    Reviews from Real Users

Mahdi B., Solution Architect and IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, says, “Veritas integrates well with the cloud, all databases, all operating systems, all hardware, and all software. Veritas also has solid malware and ransomware protection features. From time to time, we face a new kind of attack, and Veritas has always proven to be the best protection solution for some of my customers. Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work. Most of the functions of the Veritas software are isolated from the operating system and it's not dependent on the operating systems involved. This is very important. When some of our operating systems are infected by a virus, Veritas still works perfectly and protects our data. This feature is very well implemented in Veritas NetBackup.”

A PeerSpot user who is a General Manager at a comms service provider relates, “Veritas enterprise has many agents who perform the backup, whether it is a consistent backup or recorded backup. The solution has everything from the snapshot to the multiple database agents.”

Mir-Ali, Infrastructure Manager - Oracle SCM at a financial services firm, shares, “It covers all kinds of different architectures. Plus, it's very user-friendly and it is very reliable. Reliability is the most important thing because once the backup is done, if it is successful, then we're sure that it was successful and we will be able to restore it.”
