We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The connectivity and analytics are great.""The part that was very unexpected was Sentinel's ability to integrate with Azure Lighthouse, which, as a managed services solution provider, gives us the ability to also manage our customers' Sentinel environments or Sentinel workspaces. It is a big plus for us. With its integration with Lighthouse, we get the ability to monitor multiple workspaces from one portal. A lot of the Microsoft Sentinel workbooks already integrate with that capability, and we save countless amounts of money by simply being able to almost immediately realize multitenant capabilities. That alone is a big plus for us.""The most valuable feature is the UEBA. It's very easy for a security operations analyst. It has a one-touch analysis where you can search for a particular entity, and you can get a complete overview of that entity or user.""Its inbuilt Kusto Query Language is a valuable feature. It provides the flexibility needed to leverage advanced data analytics rules and policies and enables us to easily navigate all our security events in a single view. It helps any user easily understand the data or any security lags in their data and applications.""I like the ability to run custom KQL queries. I don't know if that feature is specific to Sentinel. As far as I know, they are using technology built into Azure's Log Analytics app. Sentinel integrates with that, and we use this functionality heavily.""The native integration of the Microsoft security solution has been essential because it helps reduce some false positives, especially with some of the impossible travel rules that may be configured in Microsoft 365. For some organizations, that might be benign because they're using VPNs, etc.""We are able to deploy within half an hour and we only require one person to complete the implementation.""Sentinel is a Microsoft product, so they provide very robust use cases and analytic groups, which are very beneficial for the security team. I also like the ability to integrate data sources into the software for on-premise and cloud-based solutions."

"I think that the overall experience with this solution is good, but in particular, I think that the dashboards are quite interactive.""For the typical malware or intrusion, this solution assists us by identifying the symptoms based on network traffic from the application servers.""I would rate the ease of use for new users an eight out of ten, with ten being easy to use. It is a good tool.""The reports that we are from getting from ArcSight are very valuable. The reporting in ArcSight is good. Our regulators ask us for the reports on a regular basis, and we have been able to provide the required data. Its overall functionality in terms of log analysis and the speed at which it does that is also valuable. It is very quick. Whatever alerts we had configured were extremely fast. We immediately get alerts when there is unauthorized access or unknown access, or even positive access. This is where we found the difference between ArcSight and other solutions.""ESM has valuable features for event prediction and security analysis.""ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) works perfectly. It's a stable and scalable product.""The most useful features are directories, price, and live reporting.""I value the event correlation of this product."

"Splunk allows us to customize processing and dashboards, which helps us take care of our customers' needs.""It helps us uncover bottlenecks in the network.""It allows the centralization of data and makes possible new sorts of correlations that were previously impossible using traditional SIEMs such as ArcSight or QRadar.""It provides a lot of analytics with the underlying AI engine, and it is a lot easier than other solutions. There are some products that do automated AI-based detection and drawing up charts, but for network monitoring and all of the monitoring aspects, it is quite a nice tool. It is very convenient for business users because they get more or less a lot of data readily available. If you're familiar with the Splunk query language, you can pretty much do whatever you want.""The most valuable features of the solution are it is straightforward to use and the documentation is good for finding out how to get the data you are looking for.""Visualizations are the best way to understand deviation techniques from the norm.""Deployment server for deploying changes in one go.""I like Splunk's data aggregation and search capabilities."

Cons
"They're giving us the queries so we can plug them right into Sentinel. They need to have a streamlined process for updating them in the tool and knowing when things are updated and knowing when there are new detections available from Microsoft.""We are invoiced according to the amount of data generated within each log.""When it comes to ingesting Azure native log sources, some of the log sources are specific to the subscription, and it is not always very clear.""The learning curve could be improved. I am still learning it. We were able to implement the basic features to get them up and running, but there are still so many things that I don't know about all its features. They have a lot of features that we have not been able to use or apply. If they could work on reducing the solution's learning curve, that would be good. While there is a training course held by Microsoft to learn more about this solution, there is a cost associated with it.""Currently, the watchlist feature is being utilized, and although there have been improvements, it is still not fully optimized.""We do have in-built or out-of-the-box metrics that are shown on the dashboard, but it doesn't give the kind of metrics that we need from our environment whereby we need to check the meantime to detect and meantime to resolve an incident. I have to do it manually. I have to pull all the logs or all the alerts that are fed into Sentinel over a certain period. We do this on a monthly basis, so I go into Microsoft Sentinel and pull all the alerts or incidents we closed over a period of thirty days.""Sometimes, it is hard for us to estimate the costs of Microsoft Sentinel.""The interface could be more user-friendly. It''s a small improvement that they could make if they wanted to."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"The dashboard looks a bit cumbersome.""The centralized dashboard for the hybrid cloud environment needs to be more focused. It needs to be redefined because it's missing most of the information. It should be a little bit easy to use. Currently, integration with various applications and connectors is not that easy. Deployment is easy, but integration is not that easy. ArcSight also has a very high bandwidth consumption to pull the local servers. It should have some kind of better process or ability to transfer files from on-premises to the cloud, from the cloud to on-premises, and from a cloud to another cloud.""The product should include a lot more predefined scenarios so the adopted company will have knowledge and a broader skill set in security and network.""Micro Focus does not have a physical presence here in Pakistan, although IBM does.""We would like the ability to easily identify either unused resources or those that are being used sub-optimally.""I am having issues with report generation with older versions. I don't know if this is because of compatibility issues, but report generation has been a little bit difficult in older versions. It is not similar to the newer and current versions. We are looking at moving to the cloud. It would be good if ArcSight ESM can move to the cloud. They already seem to be working on this. It would also be very helpful and great if we can integrate external threat intelligence, machine learning, and AI into this solution. It has good dashboards, but they can always be better. Its stability can also be improved.""The weakness in this system comes about because, with so many different logs, it is possible that the security analyst will lose information.""The roadmap is not clear."

More ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) Cons →

"I would like Splunk to add more integration. QRadar has many indications with more products than Splunk.""The GUI can be improved to include some of the capabilities that other BI solutions have.""Its reporting can be improved. That's the only complaint I have heard. I don't need the reporting part, but I know that other people in the organization need it.""Splunk could be improved by reducing the cost. The cost is one of the biggest challenges for us in keeping to our production requirements.""On-premises scaling of the solution is a bit more limited than it is on the cloud.""If you have to do your own stuff, such as customized charts, it is a little bit more work, but once you're familiar with the Splunk query language, you can pretty much do whatever you want. In terms of features, it should probably have the features that other competitors provide.""It is important to make sure that everything is built off of the threat models and all the underlying items within Splunk.""Splunk needs to be able to hold more days of data. At the moment it only holds three months of data."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."
