Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We're able to present data from multiple back-end collection sources into a single dashboard for the users. So they don't have to go to multiple locations to get data about a particular item, or device.""Great dashboards and good integration with other solutions.""The out-of-the-box dashboards are valuable, in terms of being able to visualize performance data in ways that we haven't in the past.""It gave us one location, one place to do all of group administration, and to build dashboards, and device administration, inventory counts... it really reduced our overall administrative overhead.""There is another component of the tool called Network Flow Analysis. It gives us the ability to troubleshoot issues which do not appear right away.""There is a good amount of vendor certification which comes with the product. That's all factory-loaded, no need to load any custom-made files. Most of the metrics are calibrated and captured from the devices based on the defaults available from vendor certification.""It saves time having it all on one place, so you do not have to jump around from different tools and try to merge the data. It is already done for you.""I can get it to run a report showing, for instance, what root drives are in the critical range in terms of being full, like 90 percent full, and disseminate that information to the other areas of the organization."

"I like the product's asset management which gives clear hardware details.""The firewall and site-blocking features are valuable.""The most valuable feature of this solution is application control.""The role-based access controls give us granular control over what features to present to a customer, and the integration into FortiAnalyzer is the most valuable feature.""From a scalability perspective, I found the solution to be completely fine...The solution's technical support is absolutely fine.""The customer likes it for the graphs, the dynamics and the reporting functionality it offers.""I like the tool's controller facility.""I am very comfortable with it, including it's reporting on threats and through its activities."

Cons
"CA PM can be complex to build and configure. Creating the folders / groups / sites required establishing many rule sets.""This solution is not very scalable.""It needs role-based administration.""When it goes through discovery, or whatever it is doing in the back-end that slows it down, sometimes we get some failures with it. ""I think it would be helpful having a more comprehensive set of certifications so that I could natively deploy devices to my environment and the tool would immediately recognize and immediately be able to provide relevant performance information without a lot of tuning on my part.""I would like to have more tasks, graphs, and possibilities for linking to the graphs and reports added to the solution.""We experience disconnections between the solutions own components.""There are some areas in the technology right now, like with VMs, where we are lacking with our abilities to get inside the VM to monitor traffic within the machine."

More DX Performance Management Cons →

"The solution is more expensive than other products.""There can be defects in Fortinet FortiPortal when functioning at high temperatures.""It's useful for us but if it had more educational reporting, it would good. It's not necessarily lacking but it's an area that could get better.""So if it's more than a thousand, there could be some scalability issues. It becomes more complex as you go.""If you are a very small company or a person on your own, it's harder to get any response from technical support.""The product must have in-built SD-WAN connectivity.""Fortinet FortiPortal could improve by providing a learning portal and better security.""I find their logging a little bit trickier to manage. The logging of events is broken up into a lot of different categories. Instead of breaking up my logs into several different places, I personally like to have all the events in one spot and then filter them down. In particular, I find that troubleshooting on Fortinet takes a little bit longer just because of those functional breakups in the logs."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We were looking at other vendors in the marketplace for NetFlow, and CA just beat everybody else in price, cost, and the size to implement. "
  • "Do your homework and know how many devices you will be managing out of the gate. Be sure to project what your growth will be each year."
  • "They should provide more scalable licensing for the product."
  • "I like the licensing model because it's device-based."
  • "We purchase a license to use the solution every three years and we have multiple contracts. They have been increasing the price annually. We have a baseline for three years and then we need to pay the difference from the baseline, and we are in the process of negotiating a new price for all the licenses we need. The price overall is affordable."
  • "The tool's pricing is based on the number of network devices."
