Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The latency is good.""The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability.""What I really like about this program, is that it is easy to use and easy to configurate.""It has good, reliable, fast storage.""The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and performance.""The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe will quickly overcome all the hurdles you face, including network and latency issues.""The initial setup was extremely simple and straightforward."

"The most useful features are high availability and the storage snapshot backup functionality.""InfoSight has allowed us to centralize our management, understanding how it correlates to the array. It has identified a network issue in the network configuration of ESXi hosts. It enables us to get servers back up faster by 25 percent.""Our upgrades are seamless. Whether we're adding storage, or upgrading the software, we don't take an outage for those upgrades.""The fact that you can manage the requirements is one the most valuable features of HPE Nimble Storage. The other is the rapid deployment time.""Any updates are just part of your subscription, so you don't have to buy add-ons for new features. You're continually adding value to it.""InfoSight has helped us resolved an issue where the snapshots were growing too big.""The deduplication and compression capabilities are powerful.""Deduplication and compression."

"This product has good performance.""Mostly, their support is also great at reacting to issues but moreover, proactive to prevent issues."

Cons
"We need better data deduplication.""We've seen that when we create a POD in synchronous mode, it increases the latency.""It's more multi-tenant functionality in their Pure1 manage portal that is lacking.""Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better.""In terms of what needs improvement, the dashboard and management could be simplified.""We have run into a couple of instances recently where we are running out of space. So we have had to buy some more packs for it and they have deployed fine and it has increased smoothly.""Every time I think of something that needs to improve, they're one step ahead, which I love. The only area I wish to see improve, I believe is coming, is in the FlashBlade product. Blade implementation fell short on a few of the services.""There is room for improvement in the pricing of the product."

More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Cons →

"HPE does not have suffficient storage.""A feature that would be a nice addition to the next release would be a filer option. A filer option so that you could connect the sim or NFS or chips like NetApp does for NAS functionality.""The solution requires a higher availability.""The solution’s stability could be better. The tool’s pricing is high and depends on the partner.""The only thing that I can really compare Nimble to is all-flash because, right now, Nimble is a hybrid solution. I would like to see them come out with an all-flash alternative.""There is a new version of the Nimble and 3PAR systems called Alletra and they have a lot of new features.""The backup solution that they are using now probably has not been deduped.""The most difficult part about Nimble was the fact that it didn't have a standard length."

More HPE Nimble Storage Cons →

"The response time for read requests can be improved.""InfiniBox, right now, offers only asynchronous replication between two storages."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "From a price/performance perspective, Nimble simply can’t be beat. From a TCO perspective, the stability alone pays for itself."
  • "Competitive. No licensing. Since everything is included."
  • "It is expensive, but it is worth the “uptime”."
  • "It is cost-effective, which is important for a service provider, because you're competing with hyper-scale providers who do things at extremely large scale, who tend to kill you on price if you're not careful."
  • "It is very pricey. You pay for what you get, and this storage solution is great. It is well worth the cost."
  • "The first two that I bought were incredibly expensive, compared to the last five to seven that I have bought. The price has come way down, and it has been a year or so since we bought one."
  • "If you are a super small company, the product is probably not right for you. It is out of your price range. Anything from mid-SMB up to enterprise, it is absolutely the right product."
  • "If we had stuck with EMC, we would have spent a lot more. We have EMC in-house, we have a bunch of them. Switching to Nimble saved me millions of dollars over the past three years... Nimble fills a need for performance within a budget that is in the sub-million dollar range."

  • "The license covers any feature and also, the future features are already included. It is as easy as a 1, 2 and 3."
  • "The best features come included without any additional cost."

The HPE InfoSight feature makes it so that administrators don’t need to make guesses when managing their data storage. It offers users suggestions as to what they can do to improve their storage performance.

    • Scaling. Nimble Storage gives users the ability to scale their data storage so that it appropriately meets their needs. They can both “scale up” or increase the sheer amount of data that they can store at a given time and “scale out” or increase their ability to perform effectively.

    • Hybrid storage. Nimble Storage has the ability to store data both on the cloud and on-premises so as to meet an organization’s storage requirements. Its multi-cloud feature enables users to seamlessly manage all of their data storage and utilization operations with ease.
