We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features are the composable structure, infrastructure, and automation.""We also have the 3PAR and the GUI is almost the same. So the recognition is very good.""The solution's technical support was great...The initial setup of HPE OneView was easy.""We get templates, so it's speed to delivery for us. It's a big difference with the template features.""Firmware compliance is one of the most valuable features.""The hypervisor and cluster profiles make it easy to integrate with VMware.""Deploys faster new virtual services.""Profile templates: The ability to generate the profiles and lay them down so the servers are built consistently. I would say that's probably the biggest piece of it."

"The most valuable feature is the profiling of the applications for micro-segmentation... It has made the migration to NSX much easier. Most of the sys admins within the smaller silos, they have no idea what ports are needed to run their stuff at all. I am pretty sure the micro-segmentation would never, ever have occurred without it.""It has definitely helped us to meet compliance rules by assuring that all traffic is going to where it's supposed to go. It can be used to report that you are in compliance, as well as helping you get into compliance.""It has really tightened down the security. That was something that we were lacking. It has also given us deep visibility into our network. We can really get down and see all of the traffic within the data center, between the VMs, between the applications, database servers, other application servers, web servers. We can identify everything that is communicating, and we can see it all on one product.""It allows us to go from virtual through NSX, up to the core, and see all of that in one pane of glass, it's pretty easy.""The best feature of this application is its ability to capture everything within the same application, as well as capture all the traffic.""The solution is extremely intuitive and user-friendly. When you log in to the application you are presented with a dashboard that is very reasonable for an initial user, and you can then customize it to your specific needs. But for all the data that we've found, we've only had to go through two or three drill-downs to get into that information.""The initial was straightforward. You can have it up and running in one hour.""It's a very powerful, very manageable product."

Cons
"I saw, maybe three years ago or two years ago here, or in Barcelona, at the HPE Discover conference, a feature that you can update Clusterware with VMware. But the feature is still not live in production. Currently, you have to do all the firmware updates and then you have to do the VMware updates. So you have two reboots and it would be better if it was just one.""There was a feature called HPE cloud manager, but now it is owned by Micro Focus. HPE should make a cloud optimizer again.""The solution could add storage, integration services, and end-to-end support for Cisco switches or other competitor products.""Use it, but do not think it is going into the clouds, because it is not. There is room for improvement.""The network configuration part of HPE OneView needs improvement. The solution has way too many features, and there's a need for proper configuration indicators to be put in place.""One thing which is missing is that you can't actually log a support call yourself.""The speed and performance of the solution are areas where the product lacks and needs improvement.""Does not allow for switch configuration other than through OneView."

More HPE OneView Cons →

"The solution is very much viewer centric and it would be nice if it would transcend just the virtual infrastructure.""In a very general way, I would like to see an improvement in interoperability with third-party product, from other vendors.""The compatibility with each and every component of the infrastructure is the main thing that I am looking for. I would like them to make sure that it's compatible with different kinds of storage systems, etc. I have seen the compatibility list. I feel it can be more compatible than it is right now.""I want to be able to monitor a network flow that is approximately two weeks back, but I haven't found an easy way to do this.""There are some random glitches in the Web UI, but they are usually pretty cosmetic in nature. I don't really seem to use any browser other than Chrome with it. I also get some weird errors from time to time on the hardware NetFlow Collectors, where it doesn't sync data.""There could be some deeper analytics into packet inspection and trace flows. It could use some kind of machine learning to look at Layer 7 traffic for potential malware or corrupt packets.""The virtual appliance has rebooted.""It just needs to be more reliable and more accurate. At some point, there are some things where it does not match properly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "HPE had some other solutions, but they were actually quite expensive to buy. So, when OneView came along, it was kind of reasonable in terms of price for licenses, etc."
  • "Use it. It is free."
  • "I am happy with the price."
  • "HPE could lower the price."
  • "I think that the price of OneView is $500 USD per server, which is a little high."
  • "The solution is free to use, but if you want the management aspect you require a virtual machine such as C7000 or Synergy which require licenses."
  • "Synergy does not require iLO licenses but servers and enclosures must be purchased."
  • "This license cost for OneView was $3,000 USD."

  • "The solution has helped us to reduce time, increase performance, reduce costs, and even easily manage networks. We are probably seeing 10 to 20 percent labor savings because we are able to be very specific and focused on what we want to do. It ends up saving the customer money and makes us be more efficient on our cost deliveries."
  • "It reduces costs. It takes something that may be challenging and makes it more usable and visual by being able to bring in tools, seeing what their impact is, such as microsegmentation and application rationalization, and seeing it quickly."
  • "Cost always has room for improvement, you could always make it cheaper. But I think it's a good value for what you pay for it."
  • "It's an expensive product because we have a lot of nodes."
  • "They should include the product in NSX because it's important to have it for deployment."
  • "The solution has reduced the time that we spend on other products. For example, with NSX, we were able to quickly find things that we would normally spend days trying to figure out."
  • "We have spent less time investigating network flows, so it is absolutely cost-effective."
  • "It has brought more money into our company."
