We performed a comparison between Huawei OceanStor Dorado and NetApp AFF based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two All-Flash Storage solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The speed of the Pure FlashArray is very, very fast and nothing in the market can compare to it."
"Lone segmentation is simpler and more agile. It's improved the velocity in overall provisioning from project to operation."
"It simplifies storage."
"The scalability is good."
"It simplifies building out the storage."
"The job of support for the storage engineers dramatically changed. We know more quickly the automation of the provisioning. We can now focus on things that bring more value to the company than just managing storage."
"Support has been helpful."
"This is the best all-flash storage array on the market."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the overall simplicity."
"We can use Huawei OceanStor Dorado capacity storage for many different purposes."
"It is very easy to use."
"The platform's most valuable features are reliability, intelligence, and fast performance speed."
"It is a scalable solution."
"The solution's pricing is its most valuable feature."
"The majority of our customers find this solution simple to use."
"There are plenty of features available in this solution."
"Things that have been really useful, of course, are the clustering features and being able to stay online during failovers and code upgrades; and just being able to seamlessly do all sorts of movement of data without having to disrupt end-users' ability to get to those files. And we can take advantage of new shelves, new hardware, upgrade in place. It's kind of magic when it comes to doing those sorts of things."
"There are many reports accessing the applications. We receive them very quickly. We used to wait a long time for them. Now, you just need to wait a moment."
"The most valuable features of AFF are its speed and the responsive support from NetApp."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of management."
"The most valuable aspect of NetApp AFF is the money it saves our organization."
"It's helping to leverage data. The storage is being utilized to implement larger, complex file sizes."
"My favorite part is all-flash solid drives. All of my applications are running on an all-flash array. Before, we used to get too many severity tickets on performance, but as soon as we migrated everything to an all-flash array, our critical applications are at top performance."
"It has improved performance for our enterprise applications, data analytics, and VMs. These improvements are a result of all-flash, throughput, reliability, compression, etc."
"Pure Storage FlashArray could improve by being more secure."
"With scalability, I have run into a little problem with our last upgrade. There were some undocumented limitations to the number of drives that our controller could run on. So, instead of putting in a new data pack as we had anticipated, we had to keep adding and removing to get up to the capacity that we needed to be. What should have been a one day process (or a few hours) turned into a month and a half process."
"The way Pure Storage does the controller storage warranty or replacement has been an issue for some people who just replace the controllers every couple of years, and that's where some of the confusion with pricing and support has come in. They should be clear on the way the controller replacements happen, as it is important to know whether or not you can get a good return on them, because it can be a little confusing."
"I would rate this solution an eight. To make it a ten it would have to be a little cheaper."
"There's always an opportunity for new feature functionality."
"I like what they're doing, but some of my customers complain that they do not have all the bells and whistles and knobs to fine-tune workloads that some of the competitors have. In my opinion, that's good. All customers don't have dedicated storage gurus, and they can get themselves into trouble if they fine-tune too many of those high-performance knobs, but they do get knocked down. Pure Storage takes a hit in the minds and opinions of some of the customers because they cannot customize things as much as compared to a legacy storage provider's appliance such as NetApp, Dell EMC, or even HPE. I personally think 95% of my customers are better off letting the system fine-tune itself. That was something that you needed to do 12 or 15 years ago, but now with all-flash, the technology can handle what it needs to handle. Customers just end up shooting themselves in the foot if they are tweaking too many default settings."
"The GUI is simplistic and basic. I feel like it's explanatory, but not enough, it needs a little more to it."
"In the next release I would like to see integration into other third-party player providers like Google."
"This solution can improve by providing easier migrations and better Metro features."
"The technology and the features need improvement."
"There are some limitations to this product because they do not have unified storage."
"The built-in reporting tools need some enhancement."
"I would really like to see Heterogeneous Storage Virtualization in a future release."
"I would like to see them improve their IOPS per second to match their contemporaries in the industry."
"It should have easy connectivity with the AIX, however, I've found that with AIX, it has some issues and due to this, we need to remove the exact fiber card sometimes and then plug it in again so that it can connect with the AIX systems."
"Difficult integration with third parties."
"The user interface should be more user-friendly, and the configuration could be more accessible."
"I just got through the session where it looks like they are going to support Oracle running on Linux with SnapCenter. That is one of the main things that we are hoping to get integrated."
"Migrating from a public cloud to on-prem or on-prem to a cloud can be a bit complicated. They have their own solution, but it should be easy to use."
"The size of NetApp could be better. They're always about 40 pounds without the hard drives in them, so it would be great if there's a way to make them smaller yet keep the functionality. That would reduce the physical footprint."
"Higher communication: I love the professional services and I love everything that everyone's able to offer us, but I find sometimes we're not aware of all the things that NetApp can do."
"In terms of improvement, IO performance could use some enhancement."
"There is room for improvement in terms of support. I have noticed that if I sometimes call their customer care for a particular issue, they will give me another number and ask me to call that other team. It would be better if they could do a warm transfer. That would save customers time from calling all the numbers again and speaking to another team."
"I've had a few cases where support wasn't able to answer the question or they took quite a while."
