We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is an integrated solution that provides end-to-end capabilities for managing the data. It is very useful for cleaning the data. It also allows us to combine data from on-premises and cloud sources. On this unified data, we can perform some advanced analytics to predict customer behavior and create new products. Its management and governance capabilities are valuable. It provides full tracking of the data flow. It provides customers the full control over the data and the ability to protect the data. It enables us to provide the best service to the customers. We also get great support from Infogix.""Infogix support stands out in terms of quality and response time, and it is really easy to speak with them by phone or by email."

"We can prevent, block, or audit however we like.""The availability of pre-designed policies tailored to specific geolocations and customer requirements is a valuable feature.""The most valuable feature is the tracking activity and device onboarding.""MIP also provides strong information rights management settings, such as the ability to specify who has access to content and at what time.""Microsoft Purview is extremely stable.""The product has helped us save both time and money.""The documentation is very exhaustive. Anyone can go ahead and try different use cases.""I don't know if I've gotten much value out of Purview personally, but our security team loves it. Our biggest concern is leakage or theft of our data because we have a lot of PII and stuff that has not been released. We like the insights Purview provides and the way the solution can track and manage things. I'd say that was probably their favorite piece of it so far. From everything the security team has told me, the policy management and DLP features are working spectacularly."

Cons
"The 360-degree view for the customers needs to be improved.""We would like this solution to be available in our local language. In our region, people are not fluent in English. It would be nice to have this solution in Portuguese and Spanish. Its workflows are great, but it would be useful to have business flow at a high level because we need to work together with business users. We need more capabilities for business users to understand something in terms of data."

"There are negatives to the compliance aspect of Purview in that you get a lot of false positives with some of the native scanning and rules in the platform. A lot of them need tweaking to get a more realistic handle on what data there is.""Overcoming certain control issues would significantly enhance our overall satisfaction.""Although you can explore the data, that creates a great interest in data lineage or the data flow. How does it go from a source to a platform to a Power BI report, for example? It is possible, to some extent, to see that with Purview, but the lineage feature requires some manual work on the development side or more work from Microsoft to improve on it.""There are differences when looking at an incident in the M365 portal versus Purview, and the main one is the advanced hunting. In the M365 portal, you can write KQL queries and fetch data. If that was available in Purview, it would be very good.""Non-Microsoft use cases are not very high. It's limited for now.""The Microsoft Purview data connector platform, which supports ingestion from non-Microsoft data sources, can be somewhat complex.""If we could have a view something like we have in CrowdStrike—which is, I believe, the biggest competitor to Microsoft when it comes to security—a node nodal view, which we also have in Defender, that would make it a more complete, one-stop solution. That would save a lot of time for the admins and the engineers.""Reflecting organizational changes within Purview is impractical."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Its price is much lower than Informatica. Its licensing is very easy to understand. It is not too complex. There is no maintenance fee. The support is included with the license. Its licensing is subscription-based, which makes it easy to define the budget and other things. It also makes it easier to plan and understand how to use the solution. It uses the pay-as-you-use model, so you can start small and expand the solution and pay as per your usage."

  • "The pricing is moderate. It's not too expensive, but it's not the most competitive."
  • "Microsoft Purview is the best option I have encountered when it comes to price. Maybe some of my information is outdated, but Microsoft offered it so that you could use it almost without paying."
  • "There is some competition out there, but the other solutions are quite expensive. They are enterprise tools that are a bit more mature but the license costs $100,000 for some of them. Purview is pay-per-use and a lot of companies are interested in that."
  • "Aside from the complexity of the pricing model, the price itself is realistic. Features like AI components and automatic classification require additional licenses. Still, anyone can start using Purview with a basic E3 license if they're using Microsoft 365 and grow with additional licenses as needed. Overall, we're satisfied with the price."
  • "Its pricing is good in terms of the features that they are providing, but there are many competitors in the market who can easily provide you with similar services at a lesser cost."
  • "The categorization within the licensing could be improved. There are a lot of solutions within Microsoft Purview. If the licensing could be a bit clearer and the solutions could be better categorized according to function and across multiple environments, that would be excellent. The licensing is very confusing."
  • "Price-wise, I think it's very generous and accessible to not just enterprises but small to medium-sized companies as well. I think it's very fair in terms of how they break apart the storage and the actual computing, and that makes it very accessible. So, that is a very big plus for Purview."
  • "Some people find the tier licensing system complicated, but it offers a lot of value for money if we use the features."
