Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The stability is very good.""Fortinet is very user-friendly for customers.""The price is low and quite competitive with others.""Fortinet FortiEDR made our clients feel secure and more at ease, knowing that they had an EDR solution that would close the gap in their security posture.""It is very easy to set up. I would rate my experience with the initial setup a ten out of ten, with ten being very easy to set up.""We have FortiEDR installed on all our systems. This protects them from any threats.""I like FortiClient EMS. FortiEDR has a lot of great features like lockdown mode, remote wipes, and encryption. I can set malware outbreak policies and controls for detecting abnormalities. You can also simulate phishing attacks.""NGAV and EDR features are outstanding."

"This is a platform as a service provided by Azure. We don't need to install or maintain Azure Security Center. It is a ready-made service available in Azure. This is one of the main things that we like. If you look at similar tools, we have to install, maintain, and update services. Whereas, Azure Security Center manages what we are using. This is a good feature that has helped us a lot.""The most valuable features of the solution are the insights, meaning the remediation suggestions, as well as the incident alerts.""The main feature is the security posture assessment through the security score. I find that to be very helpful because it gives us guidance on what needs to be secured and recommendations on how to secure the workloads that have been onboarded.""It's got a lot of great features.""It takes very little effort to integrate it. It also gives very good visibility into what exactly is happening.""Good compliance policies.""It works seamlessly on the Azure platform because it's a Microsoft app. Its setup is similar, so if you already have a Microsoft account, it just flows into it.""Defender for Cloud is a plug-and-play solution that provides continuous posture management once enabled."

"They were one of the companies, early on, that spent a lot of time integrating their toolsets, and I was really impressed with that... the endpoint management system could reach out to the Deep Discovery system on the network and pick up something that it perceived as a suspicious object.""I like that it is a comprehensive security solution with a lot of features. You can say XDR is an end-to-end security solution with endpoint security. It includes all your servers, networks, and other devices. The endpoint security solution does not cover this. Plus, machine learning and features like that are the main things in XDR solutions.""It has good vulnerability protection.""The solution is stable.""We are very impressed with the single pane of glass visibility that Trend Micro XDR provides.""The setup is fairly simple.""For our day-to-day use cases, the correlation and attribution of different alerts are valuable. It is sort of an SIEM, but it is intelligent enough to run the queries and intentionally detect and prioritize attacks for you. At the end of the day, it is different data that you see. It correlates data for you and makes it meaningful. You can see that someone got an email and clicked a link. That link downloaded, for example, malware into the memory of the machine. From there, you can see that they started moving laterally to your environment. I quite like it because it gives visibility, so Workbench is what we use every day""We've found the pricing to be reasonable."

Cons
"Once, we had an event that was locked and blocked, but information about it came to us two or three days later.""We find the solution to be a bit expensive.""The solution's installation from a central installation server could be improved because the engineers had a little bit of trouble getting it installed from a central location.""There's room for improvement in the quick response time and technical support for integration issues, especially when dealing with multiple vendors.""The EDR console should have more extensive reporting. You shouldn't need to purchase FortiAnalyzer. It should be included in the EDR part. The security adviser cloud platform could be improved with more options for exclusive or intensive rules for devices.""They can include the automation for the realtime updates. We have a network infrastructure with remote sites. Whenever they send updates, they are not automated. We have to go into the console and push those updates. I wish it was more automated. The update file is currently around 31 MB. It could be smaller.""The only minor concern is occasional interference with desired programs.""ZTNA can improve latency."

More Fortinet FortiEDR Cons →

"Agent features need to be improved. They support agents through Azure Arc or Workbench. Sometimes, we are not able to get correct signals from the machines on which we have installed these agents. We are not able to see how many are currently reporting to Azure Security Center, and how many are currently not reporting. For example, we have 1,000 machines, and we have enrolled 1,000 OMS agents on these machines to collect the log. When I look at the status, even though at some places, it shows that it is connected, but when I actually go and check, I'm not getting any alerts from those. There are some discrepancies on the agent, and the agent features are not up to the mark.""The product was a bit complex to set up earlier, however, it is a bit streamlined now.""Most of the time, when we log into the support, we don't get a chance to interact with Microsoft employees directly, except having it go to outsource employees of Microsoft. The initial interaction has not been that great because outsourced companies cannot provide the kind of quality or technical expertise that we look for. We have a technical manager from Microsoft, but they are kind of average unless we make noise and ask them to escalate. We then can get the right people and the right solution, but it definitely takes time.""The documentation and implementation guides could be improved.""The solution's portal is very easy to use, but there's one key component that is missing when it comes to managing policies. For example, if I've onboarded my server and I need to specify antivirus policies, there's no option to do that on the portal. I will have to go to Intune to deploy them. That is one main aspect that is missing and it's worrisome.""If a customer is already using Okta as an SSO in its entire environment, they will want to continue with it. But Security Center doesn't understand that and keeps making recommendations. It would help if it let us resolve a recommendation, even if it is not implemented.""Another thing that could be improved was that they could recommend processes on how to react to alerts, or recommend best practices based on how other organizations do things if they receive an alert about XYZ.""There is no perfect product in the world and there are always features that can be added."

More Microsoft Defender for Cloud Cons →

"Trend Micro doesn't have the next-generation firewall.""The deployment process could be more streamlined over the existing infrastructure, as it was not as easy as we thought.""The zero trust is a bit complicated compared to other parts of the solution.""I think that continued optimization of the environment towards automation and orchestration, a kind of layer that sits underneath all of the technologies, would be extremely important.""In new versions I would like to see better implementation of the reporting features, especially in regards to EDR visibility.""Results were delayed.""While the continuous addition of features is commendable, the sheer volume of changes makes it difficult to stay abreast of the latest developments.""The agent system is very slow, it needs to improve its performance."

  • "There are no issues with the pricing."
  • "The price is comprable to other endpoint security solutions."
  • "The pricing is typical for enterprises and fairly priced."
  • "I'm not familiar with pricing, but it looks a bit costly compared to other vendors I think."

  • "I'm not privy to that information, but I know it's probably close to a million dollars a year."
  • "We are using the free version of the Azure Security Center."
  • "Azure Defender is a bit pricey. The price could be lower."
  • "This is a worldwide service and depending on the country, there will be different prices."
  • "Security Center charges $15 per resource for any workload that you onboard into it. They charge per VM or per data-base server or per application. It's not like Microsoft 365 licensing, where there are levels like E3 and E5. Security Center is pretty straightforward."
  • "There is a helpful cost-reducing option that allows you to integrate production subscriptions with non-production subscriptions."
  • "Its pricing is a little bit high in terms of Azure Security Center, but the good thing is that we don't need to maintain and deploy it. So, while the pricing is high, it is native to Azure which is why we prefer using this tool."
  • "I am not involved in this area. However, I believe its price is okay because even small customers are using Azure Security Center. I don't think it is very expensive."
  • More Microsoft Defender for Cloud Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is costly. It is not that affordable for a small organization. Only big organizations can afford it. It is a new feature that has been added, so its price is fair. Its licensing is probably subscription-based. It is for one or two years."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Fortinet FortiEDR users.

An Owner at a security firm says, "The features that I have found most valuable are the ability to customize it and to reduce its size. It lets you run in a very small window in terms of memory and resources on legacy cash registers. The customer has literally about 800 cash registers. That was the use case for Fortinet FortiEDR - to get that down into a tiny space. The only way to do that was to use this product because it had that ability to unbundle services that were a surplus.”

Chandan M., Chief Technical Officer at Provision Technologies LLP, mentions, “The ease of deployment and configuration is valuable. It's very easy compared to other vendors like Sophos. Sophos' configuration is complex. Fortinet is a lot easier to understand. You don't need a lot of admin knowledge to do the configuration.” He also adds, “The security is also very good and the firewall response is good.”

Harpreet S., Information Technology Support Specialist at Chemtrade Logistics, explains, "It notifies us if there's any suspicious file on any PC. If any execution or similar kind of thing is happening, it just alerts us. It doesn't only alert. It also blocks the execution until we allow it. We check whether the execution is legitimate or not, and then approve it or keep it blocked. This gives us a little bit of control over this mechanism. Fortinet FortiEDR is also very straightforward and easy to maintain."

DeAndre V., Senior Network Administrator at a financial services firm, states, “The dashboard is easy to follow and use. The deployment and uninstalling were easy. I like the detailed information about the path of a file that might be suspicious. Being able to check that out was easy to follow. Exceptions are easy to create and the interface is easy to follow with a nice appearance.
