We performed a comparison between Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls and Stormshield Network Security based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Fortigate is very scalable to serve our customers' needs. We have scaled already from fifty to more than a hundred instances of Fortinet FortiGate. Around 20 staff are required for deployment and maintenance, mostly engineers."
"I like Fortinet FortiGate's antispam filter, SPN, and clustering features."
"The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiGate is security. They are known for efficiency and are on the top of Gartner Quadrant reviews. Fortinet FortiGate has an easy-to-use platform with a good graphical interface. The configuration is simple and the solution provides an overall good layer of security."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of configuration."
"It has improved our security capabilities."
"We use the FortiGate Sandbox to detect zero-day vulnerabilities, such as anomalies or malware, that are unknown and have not yet been discovered."
"I have found Fortinet FortiGate to be scalable."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is Quota."
"The most valuable feature is the security provided by the ATP."
"They have a good system operator in the firewalls and it provides many tools that they can use to protect their networks."
"Identifying applications is very easy with this solution."
"There are many valuable features within the solution. This includes security, a user-friendly firewall, antivirus, and global protection."
"Most of the features in Palo Alto are very valuable."
"One of the things I really like about it is that we have the same features and functions available on the entry-level device (PA-220), as do large corporations with much more costly appliances."
"The sandboxing is valuable and they are frequently updating their signature database. We get new updates every five minutes. That makes it easy to detect new and unknown attacks."
"GlobalProtect and App-ID features are very good."
"Ease of use is the best feature of the product."
"I can see what traffic is going on. I can easily block any programs from attacks."
"Our organization's main concern is stability, and this is a stable solution."
"This solution is quick and easy to configure."
"The scalability of the solution is good."
"It's an easy, straightforward management platform to use."
"I like that it works fine. Stormshield is a very good solution."
"The most valuable features are the IPS, the firewall function, and the price."
"The customization could be improved. Cisco, for example, is much better at this. They need to work to be at least as good as they are."
"It could use more templates for third-party site-to-site VPN setups other than FortiGate and Cisco."
"The solution could be more secure and stable."
"Fortinet FortiGate could improve if it had a cloud-managed solution."
"The initial setup and configuration are not intuitive and require training."
"As far as wanting more scalability or things in the network diagram, it's going to cost you."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a firewall solution and once it's deployed, you can rest assured that your system is secure."
"The main aspect of FortiGate that could be improved is load balancing. Our management team does not want to buy another appliance for only load balancing."
"The solution's VPN, called GlobalProtect, could be improved as I've had a few issues with that."
"In Mexico, Palo Alto's discounts are significantly lower than Cisco's. They are also more expensive – about 15% or 20% – than Cisco, but their platforms are very similar."
"The reports it provides are not helpful."
"Personally, I feel that their dashboards for reporting and things like that need some improvement."
"In terms of what could be improved, comparatively the price is very high. That would be the one thing."
"The VPN connectors should be better. We had some challenges in terms of the VPN with Palo Alto Networks NG Firewall, and that's one of the main reasons why we moved to Sophos. Its load handling can also be improved. There were challenges when traffic was high. During peak business hours, it did not function very well. There was a lot of slowness, and the users used to complain, especially when they were connecting from outside. We even reported this to the support team. Their support should also be improved. Technical support was a bit of a concern while using this solution. We didn't get very good support from the Palo Alto team."
"The user interface is probably not as slick as it could be."
"Its reporting can definitely be improved. I would like to have better graphical dashboards and more widgets for more clarity in the reporting area. In a third-generation firewall, you can generate some dashboards. It provides the information that we need, but from the C-level or a higher-level perspective, it is kind of rough and incomplete. Its data loss prevention (DLP) feature is not good enough. Currently, this feature is very basic and not suitable for enterprises. It would be nice if they can include a better DLP feature like Fortinet. We would like to have a local depot of Palo Alto in Latin America. Competitors such as Cisco and Check Point have a local depot here. If there is an issue with their hardware, you can go to the depot, and in about four hours, you can get a replacement device, but that's not the case with Palo Alto Networks because we need to import from Miami. It takes about two to three weeks."
"Improvement is needed in terms of the technical support of the manufacturer."
"With Stormshield, there are difficulties joining things, and it can be complex depending on the architecture."
"The biggest issue was their support department was not able to help us, then everything stops. This is a no-go area for me."
"It could be better if it were more user-friendly. It's too complicated for us to use it. The price could be better as well."
"The filtering configuration could be better. We have some difficulties with the filtering configuration and the filter extension. It's not that easy. It's not that straightforward. In the next release, I would like to see a reporting system. Stormshield doesn't have any tutorials on how to do the configuration and things like that. They just have documentation on the website. If you want to configure, for example, Cisco or Fortinet, you can find tutorials on YouTube. They show you how to configure the features, and so on. In Stormshield, there is nothing on social media or the internet on how to configure different things. The lack of documentation or the lack of material makes it difficult for others to adopt this solution."
"Stormshield Network Security is quite expensive."
"The product must improve its pricing."
"Not all the fields are activated yet and we were informed that it will take at least one month."
