We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is pretty simple to use, which is always a good thing. It's been very reliable in updating us if any issues crop up.""It helps the entire organization become digitally enabled.""The initial setup is very simple.""It is able to satisfy all our requirements in terms of email notifications and specific errors on the devices.""PRTG Network Monitor's best features are its flexibility, ease of implementation, user-friendliness, and intuitive interfaces.""There was only one feature I liked about PRTG Network Monitor a lot, and that was bandwidth monitoring, though, in the newer versions of the tool, that feature is now a bit lacking. Pricing for PRTG Network Monitor is also not as expensive. It's a good tool, even for beginners.""The most valuable features of PRTG Network Monitor are the threshold notification when certain traffic increases and goes beyond the defined threshold. The up and down status email notifications and other notifications are useful. Additionally, it is user-friendly, and customizable, and there are many features available.""Speed of deployment is one of the most valuable features."

"The feature that we have found most valuable is its traffic plan. The traffic plan is very good.""I like the tool's backup.""I like the backup and backup copy features.""Veaam ONE is a very good product in virtualized environments.""Setting up Veeam is easy, and it's portable, too.""The solution is quite stable.""The product is very straightforward and very easy to use from the client-side.""The tool is a stable backup solution."

Cons
"Integration into service management ticketing systems could be better. They should simplify the integration into big service management platforms like ServiceNow, Remedy, and Cherwell. They're really into monitoring, but they don't do any self-resolution. It would be better if the company moved more into the AIOps space so that you could actually kick off some remedies. I know that you can execute some commands from the tool, but you need to develop those all yourself. It would be really handy if they had some auto-remedy scripts that they could develop on top.""We run it in a cluster, so we have two that run together. The cluster behind it is sketchy at times.""The inventory of the device should be improved.""A room for improvement in PRTG Network Monitor is its sensors. Its application technology sensor, such as the IAS, .NET, etc., needs some improvement because it doesn't work as expected. For example, the IAS sensor doesn't give immediate information, and the information you get from it isn't of good value. The web GUI of PRTG Network Monitor also needs improvement because errors keep popping up if it's not been updated to the latest version. What I'd like to see in the next release of the tool is end-to-end topology mapping for the business model, and that should be required. There has to be a technical map. Technical mapping and topological creation are missing in PRTG Network Monitor, so I would like to see those in the future.""Other monitoring tools that I have used are easier to use.""The technical support could respond a little bit quicker.""Users need to buy the more expensive licenses if they expect to be able to scale.""PRTG Network Monitor should improve the NetFlow dashboard, there is no flexibility, and the NetFlow is not meeting the business needs. Additionally, they are missing part of the configuration management."

"Agent backups could be better. I have many problems with agent backups, particularly on Linux and MySQL databases. MySQL works well with Microsoft products but not with other products. The database backups are not working correctly, and we are losing business. I am not getting any support; administration is also a significant problem.""The threshold could be easier to configure.""The user experience can be better, as it is one of the areas with shortcomings in the product.""If you don't have technical knowledge about these services, monitoring the virtual machines is hard.""The appliance doesn't have a domain. If there was a competitor with a domain, I'd likely use them.""Veeam ONE could be improved if it had a better data recovery feature.""The solution is not very good at backing up the physical Linux systems.""There is a bug that prevents enabling the restore button, which is hectic."

  • "If you're looking for a cost effective software I’d suggest this product."
  • "Sensors on free version can run out quick."

  • "When you buy PRTG, everything comes in one bundle. Licensing is very easy."
  • "The price was pretty good, very competitive."
  • "The pricing is not too bad. It's not massively expensive, and the ability to upscale or even downscale licenses every year is brilliant for us."

  • More PRTG Network Monitor Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "For what it does, the price is acceptable."
  • "If you have Veeam Backup and Replication with the essential license then this solution is free. If you were to purchase Veeam ONE by itself it is priced cheaper than competitors."
  • "The licenses are code-based or server-based for Veeam ONE. The last version is 12, and it is host-based, I don't like to move to a code-based solution."
  • "Veeam has been raising its prices in the last two years, so it's now lacking some competitiveness in pricing."
  • "I have not used the resale license in our testing environments. Sometimes, our customers used the trial license for 30 days and so on."
  • "I don't pay for the solution, so I can't comment on the cost."
  • "The cost is based on the number of core servers."
  • "Our licensing cost is $200 a year."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
