What is our primary use case?

When using Microsoft Intune our main focus was on Office 365. Our Azure Active Directory was only held up for users. When we had implemented the endpoint user management in our workstations in a cloud environment, then we started to use Microsoft Intune on an everyday basis, such as remote connection, deploying workstations, Autopilot, and deploying applications. It is a great tool.

Microsoft Intune is a cloud solution. For an on-premise solution, you have SCCM from Microsoft. However, it is old and it will be an obsolete tool soon. There are other solutions such as ManageEngine. Microsoft Intune tool is in the cloud and we can manage everything. You can manage Azure AD, Intune, and not only mobile hand devices, such as iOS or Android, the main focus is on workstations. This is what makes the solution powerful.

What needs improvement?

I expect Microsoft Intune to have more features in the cloud because there are two major functionalities that we need to be added. This is software metering and license management. These functionalities, for now, must be on-premise. For this purpose, we have set up a SQL Server and I hope that in near future this option will be in the cloud in Microsoft Intune.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Microsoft Intune is highly scalable. When you configure your network connection, there are a lot of firewalls and you can optimize your internet speed. Everything works great. You can tune up some repository sizes with Microsoft because if you have large applications, such as AutoCAD, when you upload the images to the cloud it takes some time and it needs more space.

We had four people in my company that used Microsoft Intune on approximately 100 systems.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support of Microsoft Intune is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used BEAM for client management from an American company and SCCM from Microsoft. Additionally, I used ManageEngine and Lansweeper. Lansweeper was a light tool with similar functionality. We use it in combination with TeamViewer.

How was the initial setup?

We have projects all over the world. It took us four months to implement Intune Microsoft Intune for approximately 100 clients in three countries. We implemented it in many locations, such as Germany in three cities, Croatia, and Bosnia, there is a total of 50 locations. Microsoft Intune is easy to work with.

The initial setup is not simple, you need a specialist to be involved that has the appropriate experience. This is not a solution where out of the box you run the executable file on your system and hit next, next, to finish the installation.

What about the implementation team?

Microsoft Intune requires specialists to implement the solution. We used an external team of two engineer specialists that was dedicated to the project. I helped too because I have experience in plant management.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a license required to use the solution. If you're core users in Office 365, for example, you have Outlook email and E3 license, this is only email. You have to buy an EMS license to have Microsoft Intune. It is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend the solution to others.

I rate Microsoft Intune a nine out of ten.

We are using it to protect our devices. We are using it for protecting our corporate data on the phone and for GDPR compliance. 

We are using its latest version.

How has it helped my organization?

It is helpful for protecting our corporate data on the phone. In the event a phone is stolen, we can remotely wipe the phone or destroy the data on it.

It also helps us with our GDPR compliance. We also have the GDPR module on the cloud that links to all the endpoints, laptops, mobile phones, and tablets. So, we can also remotely protect the data on the phones, wherever they are.

Intune makes it possible for us to reach all the endpoints and have them protected at all times. We have what is called Defender now, but it used to be called Advanced Threat Protection.

What is most valuable?

The ability to manage devices with different sets of policies is most valuable.

What needs improvement?

We haven't really gone through all the features of Intune. We are just discovering them. Every day, we see a new feature that we want to apply, but what will be great for Intune is to be able to deploy apps in a simple fashion. We should be able to easily install various apps on the Windows platform, iOS, and Android. Currently, we have to write some scripts. It's not as straightforward as we would like it to be. It should be simplified so that we can do it just with three clicks—next, next, finish—without needing to write a script.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

So far, it has been good because what we tend to do is get high-end phones with lots of processing power, RAM, and storage. That way, its capacity is never an issue.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. It is a multi-user license, and because there are templates for policies, it's easy to just assign what you have set up for executives, for ordinary users, for marketers, etc.

We have about 150 users who use this solution. I work with this on a daily basis.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate them a 10 out of 10 because they knew what the problem was, and they walked us through resolving it. I am satisfied with their support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The first one we used was VMware AirWatch. The reseller overestimated our requirements, and we got a very expensive package. It was about $57,000 every year, and eventually, we found out they had a package for $6,000 every year that did exactly what we wanted, so we had to drop it. We had spent two years on VMware AirWatch with the expensive module.

We switched to Intune because we were already on a Microsoft subscription for Office 365, and the add-on wasn't that expensive.

How was the initial setup?

It was simple. I would rate it a four out of five in terms of the setup. It took about a week.

It is a cloud product. It doesn't require any maintenance from our side. We get an update every time they upgrade a feature.

What about the implementation team?

We did it internally. We just went through the documentation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's affordable for the protection it gives. There are no additional costs.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise getting a Microsoft partner to deploy it for you. It's a lot quicker. 

I would definitely recommend this product. I would rate it a 10 out of 10.

What is our primary use case?

It helps me to safeguard my identities in terms of conditional access. If a person is using it from outside the office, there would be MFAs that are mandatory. However, the moment they're inside the office, they're probably not using it. There are MDM features, which are my corporate-owned devices. It can be used for MA features and for BYOD scenarios. I have tested it on VPN certification authentication and it works in those areas as well. 

What is most valuable?

The dashboard is good.

We find the solution to be mostly stable.

The scalability is good.

We've largely been happy with technical support.

This product works very well for companies already using the full Microsoft suite. 

What needs improvement?

There could be some more security without compromising productivity. They could provide some advisories that alert you as to whether the device is secure or not. They need to be able to show us if there is something malicious happening or not. It would be really nice to have something there that could protect us from malicious activities or ransomware. 

I'd like more reports and KPIs available. We'd like these to be visible so users can be assured their devices are secure.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've pretty much used the solution since its inception. I've used it from 2012 onwards. However, since 2015, it rapidly began changing the nature of its utilization. I've used it for the last five or six years under this new utilization.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There is always a noise when you are going to manage any endpoint devices, and noise is definitely there with this solution. However, I would estimate it is 70% to 80% is stable. You have to manage it, have to face daily operational issues, which we are doing.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

If a company needs to scale the solution, it can do so. It's cloud-based, which makes it easy to expand as needed.

How are customer service and support?

We've used technical support in the past. We have given them feedback. They are good. They keep improving and adding. They keep giving more insights around it. I really like the approach overall that they have.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I am familiar with a similar IBM-based product. If you have a Microsoft-based suite, InTune makes more sense, however, if a company uses something else - such as Google - IBM may be more suited. 

How was the initial setup?

At an enterprise level, it is always a complex initial setup. However, with the cloud, if you use that and you start from scratch, it would be pretty simple plug-and-play. That said, the moment the data comes in from the enterprise, there are complexities as there's only one system you are going to have to handle multiple devices and users from 300 to 30,000 to 300,000. It depends on how you are going to handle it.

For per device, it is not much work to set up the solution as there are only one or two apps that need to be installed. For policy conservation and many other things, you require some time to think about what needs to be done. You usually, for example, create the profile, which takes a month's time - or a month and a half.

You do not need much of a team technical team for the deployment. You just require a couple of experts - at least one or two - who have a good understanding.  We have around ten people involved in active management of it, and that includes a 24/7 support team to help manage different devices.

What about the implementation team?

We are able to implement the solution for our clients. 

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a per-user-based license and that is a licensing mechanism. You can pay yearly or monthly.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a user and a consultant. I deploy this solution for clients and migrate to it.

If a client is using a lot of Microsoft, it's a great product to have. It integrates really, really well with everything. However, if a company has a non-Microsoft suite, I wouldn't suggest this as an option. Google and IBM also have suites that might have better solutions that would work for non-Microsoft users.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten overall.

What is our primary use case?

Typically, for customers that tend to come from a transportation logistics background, it's essentially free or the TCO is literally non-existent. It's a good fit for our resume offerings. Anywhere between 50 to 200 users is a typical use case that we see, where they're leveraging the product for low subscription costs.

What is most valuable?

Its overall integration into Microsoft 365 is great. 

I would say the biggest benefit is the single-pane view. There's no jumping around multiple UI's to do your overall management. Linkage to a single pane is probably the best benefit.

I'm looking at it in comparison to other EMMs and there are better EMMs out there. It's still for me at an MBM stage, as it's addressing other areas that make up EMM, however, if you put it in comparison to others, for instance, the overall experience is better. We get OL and DM and we get in the mobile threat detection. We get in a lot of other things into that EMM. 

What needs improvement?

Intune, in their port description, for me is still pretty infantile. I will say in the next 18 months to two years, they'll start becoming a bit more major, I hope.

It's pretty straightforward to implement as long as you've got a Microsoft subscription. However, it's kind-of convoluted how they explain it and what you are paying for. Obviously, we know that the more money you pay, the more features you get. I think that they can lay it out a little bit better, sometimes it's pretty hard to follow what their offering actually is.

There's quite a lot of development that they can do within their Intune dashboard. I think there are too many lines hyperlinked to move you around. Others, in contrast, give you a simple dashboard and an intuitive administrative walkthrough.

The solution looks too technical. Even though it is a technical feature, it comes across as too technical to navigate through. They can certainly work on the overall dashboad and the layout, to simplify everything.

They can do a lot more with Enterprise Firmware over here to give it full support.

Coming from a Samsung perspective, they need to comprehensively support the Android provisioning methods.

For how long have I used the solution?

I’ve been using the solution for three years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

From a stability perspective yes, it's very stable. The SLA that Microsoft gives around their network, the cloud service offering, makes it very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's highly scalable. Anything that's in the cloud should come with scale, and in this case definitely a highly scalable option.

I'm not sure, in total, how many people are actually on the solution. With Samsung, there's no preferred EMM solution in place. Most of it tends to come down to local/regional preference. Each region's location has its own mobile provider or EMM provider. We don't manage Intune for ourselves or for customers. Therefore, within the business, I would say it's less than 5%. As I say, we have our own solution. Nobody's going to use Intune within Samsung and we have our own EMM. Therefore, I don't forsee us increasing usage.

How are customer service and technical support?

As we're consultants, we never rely upon a specific Microsoft consultancy to resolve anything and we clear our own testbed issues. We've very rarely been in contact with Microsoft's technical support. We're more engaged with Microsoft from a strategic partner level or in partnership as regards to our EMM offering. We have all the expertise we need in-house.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is cloud-oriented. As long as you have a valid Microsoft Enterprise Subscription, it's all subscription-driven. From an installation or deployment perspective, it's pretty quick and pretty straightforward. It's not complex. As long as you paid for at least a standard enterprise subscription.

What about the implementation team?

Where I am with Samsung, we're pre-sales. This is the customer's OMS. We're engaging with customers that have these environments in place, to then obviously bolt in our Samsung cloud solutions port. Obviously, we become consultancy on our cloud solutions. However, more so you have the engineering aspects of that.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For my area of business, we have a yearly subscription, which provides us with Intune capabilities within our test labs. It is negligible. It's pennies compared to our growth target. It's very affordable.

What other advice do I have?

I'm typically an Azure consultant. Therefore, anything on the Azure platform now obviously includes Intune from an EMM perspective.

We use a multitude of versions. I can't tell the specific numbers. We use many as we have to constantly compare against different customer environments. We have test labs that have multi-versions as well.

Predominantly, our deployment models are on the cloud. There's literally no call for on-premise at all, apart from network connectors.

I would advise users to consider the solution on a use case by use case. I personally work in a Samsung Android environment and there's a lot more feature support in other EMMs. Therefore, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. In the next 18 to 24 months, I hope that severe changes are made as Microsoft establishes itself more.

Overall, I would rate it at a seven out of ten. There's still a lot of room for improvement in how they deliver. Their products and features are pretty good, and they serve the need. They probably just need to work on their explanation and probably the layout and UI quite a bit more.

Microsoft Intune has improved access to devices for remote wipes. We can act quickly whenever someone leaves a company or a device gets stolen. It offers more visibility into our IT group. 

The tool's cloud-focused availability has improved the organizational security posture. It has helped to save time. We can do a lot more with a smaller team.

I rate the product a nine out of ten.

We used Microsoft Intune because it is the only solution that can also support iOS.

In cases where a device encounters compatibility issues or technical problems preventing it from receiving the MDM profile, maintenance may be required. The maintenance is acceptable.

What is our primary use case?

We're an MSP, and our primary use case is for fleet management; our entire fleet is handled through Intune, so all our mobile devices are logged in through the Azure portal, and we can manage our apps that way. We've been able to lock down our devices and control our field of frontline workers.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution allows us to keep track of an extensive device fleet so we know where they are and whether they're secure and compliant. Those that aren't compliant enter a pool, and our tech staff work to rectify that. Intune improved our organization by helping keep our data secure.

What is most valuable?

The security-related tools are excellent; these features allow us to secure devices, lock them down, and ensure compliance.

What needs improvement?

Due to the abundance of features, there's a lot to organize, which makes managing and setting up the solution challenging. The setup is immense, and it would be good to see improvement in this area.

Microsoft has slow technical support; getting through to anyone typically takes a day or two. Once we get through, then the support is good.

The deployment is relatively straightforward; we send out an email, and our users click the link; it downloads the tool to their phones, and they can log in using their credentials. If it's set up correctly, then the deployment is easy.

The solution requires a small amount of maintenance; I have one full-time member of staff to maintain 420 total devices split between two of our clients. 

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost is handled through our Office 365 license, so I have yet to be able to compare it directly with other tools in its class.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution seven out of ten. 

My advice to those evaluating Intune is that you need to know Azure. This isn't a product you can jump into without prior Azure knowledge.

We use it for proposing solutions to customers and for co-management of the end-user devices, as well as for unified endpoint management. We also use it for mobile device management.

What is most valuable?

Internet-based access with security is what I have found to be most valuable.

It is also a stable and scalable solution. We have not had any issues with technical support as well.

The initial setup is straightforward too.

What needs improvement?

Currently, for a new customer or when a device refresh occurs, I can introduce Microsoft Intune as a unified endpoint management solution. However, for an existing customer who has an SCCM it would need to be upgraded to an MECM first before I can introduce Microsoft Intune.

Microsoft even recommends it as a co-management solution because even if I need to go for UVM as a unified endpoint, I need to rebuild all the missions, which is not practical. So, they need to look into it and provide an easy and flexible moment to UEM.

I've been dealing with Microsoft Intune for at least fours years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, it is good and stable.

It has very good scalability.

The initial setup is easy. Deployment usually takes around eight weeks of time, including pilot testing. We do requirement gathering, designing, and building, so it takes us a minimum of eight weeks.

What other advice do I have?

From a solution perspective, I always recommend that you go for it. From a scalability aspect and on managing the devices over the internet and ensuring that the security of the devices for customers is always taken into account, we always recommend to Microsoft Intune.
