Application data recovery works great in our environment especially restoring MS Exchange mailbox items. There are cases where emails or attachments which can back date to more than 12 months old are needed by users.

Backup and recovery windows have been significantly improved. By using an adequate number of backup proxies, more jobs can be executed simultaneously. Image replication for DRP and Sure backup to verify data consistency have also met our audit criteria for data protection objectives.

We expect to see more integrations from the software company with storage vendors. Especially on dedupe appliances and non unified storage arrays. This will help us to cut down the storage investment cost and have more flexibility on hardware choices. Also, there are demands to protect data on end user computers and devices. Hope to see more update in this area in near future.

I've been using it for five years.

We have had no issues with the deployment.

We have experienced slow backup performance, however it was been rectified in the latest release, and they have added a feature for processing parallel jobs.

With limited storage space available, we have to use reverse incremental backup to keep only one set of full backup on the latest date. This helps us to manage the free space and make sure fast recovery always available.

The tech support is always there to help out but you need to take note of the time difference. They don't seems to have dedicated resource to cover the APAC time zone from what I have experienced.

Setup is straightforward, so just follow the wizard, but make sure you've got a plan for your storage sizing and backup retention policy. The challenging part will always be the sizing and how you place your backup proxy to make sure backup performance is top.

We performed an in-house setup. You need to make sure there is a proper planning especially if snapshot backup is needed on storage array. This feature makes sure that no VM snapshot committed to a virtual server can cause a ping drop, and this is crucial on sensitive servers. The requirement to make it happen is likely to have the Veeam server running on a physical box with direct connectivity to storage array.

Worth the money especially if you have high consolidation ratio per physical host.

I have tried a few other products, some of them are meant for multi-platform (virtual and physical), or as a native backup solution. We ended up with Veeam as we are a fully virtualized environment and the features and product capabilities have met our requirements.

It suits all the needs for a fully virtualized environment, just make sure you have proper planning on the storage sizing.

Also, the ROI for our CFO is tremendous whereas we did not have data deduplication on our previous backup product, unless licensed at a cost higher/GB than buying storage. We can now leverage in-box Windows deduplication with excellent results. We have longer retention times and spaces to spare on our backup targets.

For now we’re pretty happy, but we’d like the ability to schedule.

Also, the configuration and fine tuning of the Fibre Channel based off host proxy where we leverage the SAN hardware VSS provider took some work and effort.

None, we did an extensive POC to get to know the product which helped us roll it out smoothly.

Once due to a Windows update. Veeam fixed this extremely rapidly.

For now we have not. As long as you make sure to take care of any hardware bottle necks in the solution (source, target, network) we have been very happy with the results.

Veeam’s technical support is very good, and their responsiveness in fixing issues like the one we had once after a Windows update sets an industry standard.

We did, but I cannot disclose names. We left them because they were too expensive, not focused on customer needs, and in regards to virtualization they dropped the ball big time.

It was straightforward initially, but see above re: configuration and fine-tuning.

The ROI lies in the fact that we spend a lot less time dealing with failed and problematic backups.

We spent time setting up a live POC to make sure Veeam B&R could deliver in our real world environment. After deciding to purchase it, we got it up and running with minimal effort. We’d done most of our testing & validation of the configuration in the POC.

Ask for a trial license, get hands on experience with the product, ask for help when you need it and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what it delivers.

Off-site replication was good.

We were struggling with having software that would give us reliable backup and when we implemented the Veeam solution, it solved the problem for us.

Direct SAN to SAN replication – it didn’t integrate well with the 3PAR SAN that we had.

We were using Comvault for part of our backups and when Comvault allowed their SAN snapshotting we switched it all over.

We looked at a couple but it was cheaper to just go with Comvault across the board and pay one fee.

Do a live demo or trial – make sure it’s a good fit for what you need.

Yes, Symantec Backup Exe. It never worked well work virtualization. Backups always failed & spent too much time trying to figure out why it did not work & how to fix it.

It is our backup and recovery solution. We have a lot of hypervisors and virtual machines.

We are using its latest version. We just update it to the latest version.

Its performance is fine. It supports us very well. It is able to support our policy for RTO, RPO, and other things that we need.

A backup and replication solution should be able to back up a system and do recovery very fast. Even though Veeam Backup & Replication is able to meet most of our needs, it would be better if they can make it faster for backup and restore. 

We have been using this solution for a few years. 

It is stable. We haven't had any issues.

Its scalability is good.

I don't have any issues with their technical support.

We used our partner for its implementation. Its deployment and maintenance are taken care of by just one person. It is very simple.

Its licensing is very simple. We can make changes very easily.

I would recommend this solution to others. I would rate it an eight out of 10.

Veeam doesn't have the reporting part quite right. Its data visualization isn't as slick as other solutions like Veritas. For example, in Veritas, you can see a calendar that shows you which days are backed up. Veeam lacks features like that.

I've only been using Veeam for a couple of months. 

I'm a new client, we only use Veeam on three servers, so I'm not sure how scalable it is, but Veeam claims it's scalable. It's usually deployed in medium-sized enterprises. 

Veeam's installation was hectic. It was tough in the beginning, and the installation process took us a lot longer than we expected. It requires several other applications and has lots of dependencies.

Veeam is in the same price range as Veritas and similar solutions in that segment. 

I rate Veeam eight out of 10. Once you get it set up, everything is smooth, and the recovery is excellent.
