We performed a comparison between Elastic Observability and Prometheus based on real PeerSpot user reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Elastic Observability offers comprehensive features, machine learning capabilities, and can handle custom development. In contrast, Prometheus lacks user-friendly query language, visualization tools, and customer support, even though it is flexible and has integration capabilities. Elastic Observability is cost-effective and has helped reduce incidents and overheads, while Prometheus is free but lacks some essential features. Ultimately, Elastic Observability is a more complete and economical option for application performance monitoring.
"Good design and easy to use once implemented."
"The tool's most valuable feature is centralized logging. Elastic Common Search helps us to search for the logs across the organization."
"Machine learning is the most valuable feature of this solution."
"It has always been a stable solution."
"The price is very less expensive compared to the other solutions."
"The solution has been stable in our usage."
"The solution is open-source and helps with back-end logging. It is also easy to handle."
"I have built a mini business intelligence system based on Elastic Observability."
"It lets me proactively identify and resolve system issues. This, in terms of, most of the time, really reduces downtime. Because when there are notifications on time when we engage it quickly on time, our downtime is highly reduced. So basically, Prometheus is for monitoring and alerting."
"The dashboard is very valuable."
"The good thing is it integrates well with the Grafana dashboard. It comes with a UI where you see everything as a graph."
"It has lots of APIs and libraries to integrate with any kind of language."
"Prometheus is a great solution for monitoring."
"The scalability of Prometheus is very good."
"The most valuable features of Prometheus are the many functions available. The functions are helpful for understanding the behavior of applications and infrastructure."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"There could be more low-code features included in the product."
"Elastic Observability is difficult to use. There are only three options for customization but this can be difficult for our use case. We do not have other options to choose the metrics shown, such as CPU or memory usage."
"The interface could be improved."
"Elastic Observability’s price could be improved."
"The auto-discovery isn't nearly as good. That's a big portion of it. When you drop the agent onto the JVM and you're trying to figure things out, having to go through and manually do all that is cumbersome."
"There's a steep learning curve if you've never used this solution before."
"The solution would be better if it was capable of more automation, especially in a monitoring capacity or for the response to abnormalities."
"Elastic Observability needs to improve the retrieval of logs and metrics from all the instances."
"The simplicity of the query language could be improved. The current query language is not easy to work with."
"If you are not quite technical, it can be pretty hard to understand the way it works and how to query data in Prometheus."
"Lacks the ability to clusterize."
"The alert functionality is kind of lackluster."
"The solution has shortcomings regarding security monitoring-oriented features to support custom use cases, like out-of-the-box test scenarios and threat-related use cases of its users."
"Prometheus has a learning curve when setting it up. It definitely requires a little bit more hands-on than other solutions. It is an open source solution which means you do need to go through and read the literature that they have online for setting it up. The setup could be made easier."
"Prometheus can definitely improve its visualization. For example, the matrices represented in Prometheus do not have a very good visualization on their dashboard."
"There is a need for a more comprehensive overview of exporters, especially when dealing with many of them."
