Pros
"We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."

"It has in-depth analysis using developer code for someone whose not traditionally a developer.""The service maps that it creates, the health maps that it creates, the insights that it provides, etc., are all quite useful.""The alert mechanism is quite accurate when something goes wrong in your system. For example, if you have hundreds of APIs on your server, and any of the APIs is not performing well, you get an alert. When there is a drop or change in the threshold value, the beauty of New Relic is that within a fraction of seconds, all the stakeholders who are configured in the New Relic system will get an alert. That's one good thing.""We detect issues using dashboards that we built on New Relic.""Working with the solution is very easy. It's user-friendly.""The feature I found most valuable is being able to design my queries. It's easy to design a query.""It has the ability to monitor random URLs not tied to the one pinger per application (though it costs extra).""The initial setup is straightforward. It is easy to track and easy to follow."

More New Relic Pros →

"PRTG Network Monitor is a very stable product.""The alerting is the most valuable feature. I also like the iPhone app. I get alerts in an email on the iPhone app.""I really love the activity library. It gives the flexibility to discover data and metrics about my interface and data server.""The most valuable features of PRTG Network Monitor are bandwidth utilization, user-friendliness, all past report simple retrievals, and timeout features. Additionally, if the solution does go down it is simple to bring it back.""The initial setup is pretty easy.""The remote probes are very useful. They allow us to provide a reference across different areas in the network. In trying to localize issues, that's very useful.""The network visualization helps us to drill down deeper.""There is a simplicity to setting up the extra sensors. It's really easy for us to build infrastructure and start monitoring very quickly."

Cons
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Cons →

"It is very difficult to award the service level cycles at an endpoint level.""It gives you amazing statistics, but doesn’t give you enough information about what to do with the statistics.""Some AIOps are missing in New Relic APS, and I would like to see more features in this area.""Documentation is one of the biggest things that I have a problem with since its documentation is not clear sometimes.""In addition, its difficult to have a predictive tool to see how the application would behave in the future when it basically only shows the historical data.""It would help customers if there were an on-premises version available.""The connectivity between legacy and newer cloud applications is not great.""The solution should include more detailed reports for SQL database requests."

More New Relic Cons →

"PRTG's documentation could be improved.""Their penetration within the market could be much better. If their pricing was lower, even though it's reasonable now, it might help them achieve this.""Maybe in the future there will be room for improvement, but currently, there is nothing pressing that I can think of""PRTG Network Monitor could improve the price.""PRTG does not allow us to scan devices like we can scan software or another problem in it. Also, I cannot draw graphical graphs in Woodview/look. Another problem is that we cannot draw a good diagram in PRTG.""I am not sure the solution is giving me all the needed feedback that we need. When something goes off on our IT infrastructure, it does tell me. However, it would be nice if it gave more intuitive information, e.g., the hard drive has gone up by 60 percent in an hour.""This product can be improved by updating the net flow interface. The one that is in place works – I can get all the information I need from it – but it is a little bit clunky.""There's always room for improvement. The high availability feature is good, but it's an area that PRTG could marginally improve. For example, in PRTG, both servers have a different IP, but it would make things a lot easier if they were bound by a single IP."

Pricing and Cost Advice
Information Not Available
  • "New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
  • "The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
  • "Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
  • "It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly."
  • "If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity."
  • "I recommend using the free version of New Relic. If you like the free version and understand its importance for your company, you can move to the trial. Then, you can migrate to the paid version."
  • "There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high. The feature is very nice, but I tried it during the trial period, and the current price makes it impossible to use."
  • "They gave us aggressive discounts when they were brought in for the first time, but they have also kept them for the year-on-year renewals, which has been absolutely fine."
  • More New Relic Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licenses are very expensive, so I would like to see cheaper licensing."
  • "If you're looking for a cost effective software I’d suggest this product."
  • "Sensors on free version can run out quick."
  • "The ability to use the base version with 100 free sensors is great. The cost on other packages can be very reasonable."
  • "When you buy PRTG, everything comes in one bundle. Licensing is very easy."
  • "The price was pretty good, very competitive."
  • "The pricing is not too bad. It's not massively expensive, and the ability to upscale or even downscale licenses every year is brilliant for us."
  • "On a yearly basis, I believe it's between £1,200 and £1,500."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
