Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I really like the reporting options you get for various email reports.""It's not easy to scale it.""The ability to backup both physical and virtual machines, along with having an appliance store the backups locally instead of on a file server, NAS, or SAN.""I like the fact that you can recover the VMs inside the appliance. For example, they're basically running this appliance on a Linux-based distribution, and they're spinning off KVM virtual machines inside.""It is very easy to set up and get started. Almost too easy. We racked this device and had it up and running in less than 15 minutes.""Replication to Forever Cloud.""I am impressed with the tool's reporting and UniView features.""Unitrends has helped us cut down the time that it takes to restore a server to its original configuration."

"The backup solution comes in different versions to support different platforms.""We have virtual infrastructure, so restoring virtual machine systems from backups is also very easy.""The solution was stable and reliable.""Recovery via Active Directory is painless and much easier than the complicated setup procedures of other products.""It is a simple and flexible solution to work with.""The solution is stable.""We have never had any problem with storage and backups. It works very well and is a user-friendly solution.""It is a scalable product."

Cons
"The amount of updates which are being released. Updates should be limited to two or three a year, focusing more on quality instead of a rushed bug release.""There's a lot that can be made better. For example, it could be more scalable.""It seems like Unitrends moved away from enterprise customer engagement and moved more towards the managed service provider market.""Network-based storage stability could be improved.""The solution’s UI can be improved. I am saying this because I have seen solutions with better UIs.""Unitrends can be challenging to scale.""I would like to see more storage options for the free version.""Making the seeding process more accessible and easier to understand. Also, make more of the undocumented best practices easier to find."

"The one thing which could be improved, which we have informed Veritas about, is the ability to plug in to the cloud. Meaning, instead of using local storage if we're backing up a small user or end user, we want to be able to make it so they can direct the backups directly to the cloud. It can't be done at the moment. We can only back up to the storage then replicate to the cloud, but we cannot use the cloud as a source of storage.""They can work on the issue of the job timing out when it is unable to reach a selection item. It sometimes hangs up on the selection item, thus preventing the job from continuing.""Veritas Backup Exec should be more user-friendly. The costs should also be much lower and it should be easier to go through the disaster recovery process.""I would like to see this solution improve on faster restoration. Currently, it takes a long time to restore my data.""It's not too stable for client-server architecture. Center Management is not so interactive, and then there are some issues regarding the complex licensing which needs improvement.""Veritas Backup Exec's support services could be faster.""There is no training provided, and their technicians are unaware of the features available.""Initial setup is a bit complex and needs some expertise for troubleshooting when something goes wrong."

  • "Pricing model constantly changes."
  • "You should be aware how much the monthly costs are to use, what the initial costs for hardware are, and what the options to expand are, if needed."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Veritas Backup Exec users.

An IT Network Analyst at a manufacturing company says, “The backup potential of the solution is very good. It's protected us in the past very well and allowed us to get up and running after an attack with minimal loss. As far as if we need to restore a file, the solution absolutely has improved the way our organization functions. It saves us a lot of time. We're backing up all of our servers with it.”

PeerSpot user Masoud G., Senior Network Administrator at MapnaBE, mentions, “I prefer to use a tape library and Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries. So I prefer this software. It also has easy user and file recovery.”

Kayode O., Chief Technology Officer at a tech company, explains, “This solution creates a differential backup to reduce storage requirements. This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it. Veritas offers granular restore, which is an option that many other solutions do not have. It allows you to restore, for example, a single SharePoint document, rather than an entire site.”

Rowland G., Product Brand Manager at Epsidon Technology Distribution, states, “The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server. And also, the incremental backup which they introduced for virtual servers, where it makes it much quicker to restore, it just automatically is able to mount it back to the original backup. This makes it much quicker when you're doing the restore.”
