We compared Veeam Backup for Office 365 and Zerto across several parameters based on our users' reviews. After reading the collected data, you can find our conclusion below:
Comparison Results: Veeam Backup for Office 365 is highly regarded for its stability, ease of use, and flexibility in backing up and recovering data. It seamlessly integrates with Office 365 and offers various storage options, all presented in a user-friendly interface. However, it does not have integration with SharePoint and its performance can be inconsistent. Zerto is praised for its continuous data protection and quick recovery capabilities. It has an intuitive interface and efficiently creates virtual machines. However, it requires a more complex initial setup and could improve in areas such as licensing granularity and long-term retention features.
"Veaam technical support, from my perspective, is one of the best technical support I've ever engaged with."
"The product is easy-to-use."
"The most valuable feature is the capability to back up not only to the cloud but also to your local environment so a copy of your data can be kept on-prem."
"The most valuable feature is the integration with our Teams environment."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the replication functionality."
"The feature that I like the most is the system backup recovery from OneDrive."
"Its absolute functionality and intuitiveness are the most valuable features."
"The most valuable feature is that we don't need different agents to back up our files from different accounts."
"Zerto is scalable."
"The recovery was pretty seamless. It took about a minute for it to kick over when we did our testing. So, it wasn't a long downtime."
"I like that Zerto is easy to move and that there is no effect on the user. That is, the user doesn't even know it. We're in the healthcare industry and work for a hospital. We can set up a server in no time whatsoever. It's easy for us to schedule the time because it takes only about one minute."
"It is way faster than just manually moving VMDKs, etc. It saves hours of time and a significant amount of money."
"The test features have been really good for us. Our DR testing goes very quickly and easily now for all our stuff with Zerto. We have our priority recovery process, where we cover our databases for our app servers and web servers. All our teams pretty much get their VMs very quickly. The RPOs are very low."
"The stability is good, and I have never had any customers say anything bad about it. Some have used it for years and have not had any problems."
"From a management perspective, one of the biggest benefits is to see the excitement of your engineers having a tool that truly enables them, really making their lives easier. That is something that I love. When we came out of the PoC, their eyes were just wide with excitement of what was possible now."
"One of the most valuable features, something that I wasn't even anticipating, is the file backups. We weren't even considering Zerto to do restores, but it actually is able to do that. Eventually, we could just use this as our backup solution."
"The pricing model is unnecessarily confusing and could be simplified."
"The solution is costly."
"When you add a new site for backup, it gives you a notice that there is a new site, but the way you select that and configure that could be slightly better. It works, but it is not always very clear. For example, for the URL, you need to hover over the title or the name of the site. You should see it immediately on the screen. It should have a better user interface for selecting what you want to back up so that you get a more clear overview of the sites that are there and the ones that you want to combine in a backup. Its user interface should be more user-friendly. It has a lot of scrolling and doesn't give you a complete overview when needed. That's the main thing why it is not very user-friendly. It should have a better user interface."
"A while back, I had some trouble using the agent. It might be a problem with older versions. Sometimes, I also have issues installing or making backups from the console to that type of operating system."
"The product cannot back up Active Directory objects while its competitors can. Self-service power enables us to deal with service providers. We provide services for our clients, so having a multi-tenant service portal would be good."
"The solution could improve scalability, both in terms of more storage and users. These two attributes are quite important when you talk about good scalability."
"The capacity storage is a challenge everywhere in the backup industry. The general feedback people are coming back to about this is that there is no deduplication based on it."
"The solution needs to introduce more features."
"There should be more comprehensive cyber recovery capabilities."
"Right now, our production environment runs on-premises, and we have a DR copy of everything that we run in production. However, our development runs on that hardware. In the case of a DR event, we would need to shut down development and bring up our secondary copy of production. We're hoping that Zerto is going to be the tool to help us do that."
"Zerto could be considered as a backup product but this is not true. So if we could consolidate and use Zerto for disaster recovery as well as everyday backup and restore for situations where we need to recover something, that would be helpful. Anyway, we think that Zerto will win with no competition in the Disaster Recovery process, so we stay focused on this. Now we are testing version 10 which include real-time ransomware detection, a new Cyber Resilience Vault and enhanced cloud capabilities and security: we expect more from these features for superior hybrid cloud security."
"One thing I would like to see in their roadmap is introducing long-term storage in the cloud such as Azure or AWS. They can make it more seamless."
"I would like Zerto to provide more detailed information when there is an issue."
"The email alerts can be excessive, so better control over frequency or resolution may be a worthwhile improvement."
"There are quite a few elements in the long-term retention areas that I wish were better. The bio-level recovery indexing of backups is the area I struggle with the most. That's probably because I desire to do tasks that ordinary users wouldn't do with the solution. The standard medium to large customer would probably never ask for anything like I ask for, so I think it's pretty good the way it is. I'm excited to see some of the new improvements coming in the 9.5 version. Some of the streamlines and how the product presents itself for some of the recovery features could be better."
"Compared to other products, I would praise the intuitiveness of the product. But I think that can always be improved. The intuitiveness of the graphical user interface, while it is very solid and I don't have issues navigating it. I would say that it can always be improved."
