We performed a comparison between Microsoft Windows Server Update Services and Quest KACE Systems Management based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Patch Management solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The interface is easy to use."
"PowerShell is a valuable feature."
"The most valuable feature is Server Update's stability."
"This solution is stable."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that it is easy to use."
"Instead of leaving each server to download their own updates, with WSUS you have a centralized management tool for all the updates alongside a log for all the servers. By creating and deploying a WSUS server that will download the updates from the internet and dispatch them to the other servers, you can have control over the entire deployment process."
"The platform provides good value in terms of time and effort by eliminating the need for manual patch management."
"It is a scalable solution."
"Asset management is most valuable. It is essential for all customers. The other features are also useful, but asset management is most important."
"The scripting is a very valuable feature, as it saves us time on pushing certain things out to the users, such as software and patches."
"You don't have to be an advanced user. Rather, in terms of ease of use, this product is right where it needs to be."
"KACE’s knowledge-based articles are very good."
"We use the Systems Deployment appliance. It's our bread and butter. It is every machine that gets imaged here in this building and out through the whole state goes through the SDA. We rely on it completely. There is no manual process of getting a laptop out of a box, plugging it up, turning it on, and waiting for Windows to start. If you were to go to Best Buy and buy a brand new laptop, you spend the next two to three hours just setting it up. We don't do that. We get a laptop, plug it into the network, connect it to the SDA, and within about three clicks, we're done."
"I can reach people now that I couldn't have reached previously. We are saving about 25 percent in time."
"The most valuable feature of KACE is the mass package deployment. There are a lot of endpoint management solutions in the market. The way KACE responds is with the installation management feature, which is done in a very intelligent way, as well as scripting. It's wow. It's really wow. On top of that, there is a mass undeployment feature as well."
"Patching is definitely the most valuable feature. It gives us good, centralized software, which comes in very handy since we are doing 400 servers at a time. It enables us to manage all the servers, and to deal with the application team regarding reboots and scheduling."
"The solution must provide the issue description of the patches."
"Some issues with scalability in larger organizations."
"The product needs to improve its user interface."
"The ability to have more fine control within this solution is very important. It is not available for the solution in its current state."
"The reporting is not as practical as I would like it to be."
"It would be good if it could deploy third-party patches or applications."
"One area for potential improvement involves the administrative portal, where numerous options, including asset management and patch management, are integrated."
"More integration with different platforms would be an improvement."
"The K1000 doesn't communicate well with some clients without SMB. There are some issues with getting things to image correctly because they rely on SMB, and SMB is a protocol that is being removed due to security reasons. Organizations are trying to rely less and less on SMB. I know Quest is aware of it. They've talked about having a new version that wouldn't rely on SMB for connection to the clients, but they haven't gotten there yet."
"Easier integration would be beneficial."
"There should be a mini toolbox, like the competitors of KACE have, with the small features for KACE administrators. That would make their lives easier. If you are troubleshooting a specific endpoint, remote control is available as is Wake-on-LAN. But if you want to execute some commands, you have to use a third-party tool, the PS tool. If they would integrate those small things, it would make KACE more powerful."
"The solution needs to have the ability to push out managed feature updates from Microsoft in a more seamless way."
"There may be a good reason why some things are not easily able to be done, yet it needs work to compete with some of the other ticketing systems out there now."
"I would sure like them to be able to copy and paste out of OneNote. That drives me nuts. You can't copy from OneNote into KACE."
"We had issues with the tool's support. We are a Dutch firm and everything has to be in Dutch. We were not able to do the alerts. You were required to tweak them a lot to get them in the language that you preferred. The solution's support depended on the person that you got online. Sometimes, the response was fast and other times you needed to wait a long time. The support also depended on the levels of support that you had requested."
"The KACE Go Mobile App crashes a lot, and it always has. I would love to see that get fixed because it's very convenient when it does work properly, but most of the time it does not."
