Pros
"The Script Module in Nagios is really easy to use and is really cost efficient.""The most useful aspect of this solution is the ability to customize it for the client agent.""The most valuable feature of Nagios XI is customization. We can customize based on our requirements. We can do modifications and implement a lot of scripts. Additionally, it is easy to use.""Nagios XI helped me to draw the network and check for system failures.""An excellent solution that is easy and intuitive to implement.""Nagios XI is a simple monitoring tool with performance management.""Since this is an open source technology, if we are capable of writing the plugins in any scripting language, this product allows us to monitor anything we want.""I can monitor a phone on a desk to very big servers of any company."

"Alerts and episodes are valuable to me.""The solution is easy to scale.""ITSI provides a visual representation of complex tools and context, using color coding and other features to make it easy for anyone at the monitoring or service desk to use.""The root cause analysis is very helpful for us.""Our mean time to detect is down to five minutes.""We save substantial time on monitoring tasks because we don't have to search for what we need. Everything is packed, so you can drill down to the end values by just doing the kit. We don't spend a lot of time on this. Cons
"The Configuration Wizard needs improvement, because not all vendors are present.""The product does not have SAP monitoring.""We often need to develop custom plugins to get Nagios to work the way we want it to work because the features we need are not always available in Nagios.""It is really difficult to integrate Nagios XI with another system to generate logs and alert our management of failures in security infrastructure.""The pricing has recently risen. I know they've changed what is covered under the license, however, it doesn't change the way we use it and adds nothing to our experience, and yet we now have to pay more.""The installation and monitoring need improvement.""The reporting structure could be more streamlined.""The product could be optimized to improve the administrative user experience via the Nagios Core Configuration (NCC) GUI module."

More Nagios XI Cons →

"We're getting alerts with delays of maybe five minutes, however, we'd like to see real-time alerting in the future.""It would be good if an interface was included in the next release.""We're using predictive analytics, and there are three or four algorithms. It would be helpful if this process were more standardized and scalable.""Predictive analytics, in terms of preventing incidents before they occur, still needs time to mature.""It is pretty okay. I am not sure whether the current release has already moved to the new framework where instead of the glass tables, we can directly use the Dashboard Studio. It would be nice to have that integrated into the same framework.""Some of our customers occasionally require the development of the connectors when there are no native connectors so that we can develop in Python or for customer slash comments as well. If they could adjust that, it would be ideal.""Quality-of-life features have room for improvement.""The dashboard queries should be improved. More queries should be suggested in order to produce better dashboards."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
