Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Actifio was very stable. Whenever they identified bugs, they would promptly provide us with patches.""This product has unique capabilities that lead the product category in test data management, cloning and recovery.""The solution helps reduce costs.""They will assist me in achieving whatever budget issue the client may be having.""Very user-friendly and the QSA is very good.""Very user-friendly and the QSA is very good."

"One valuable feature is unlimited backup. You can back up existing users and folders.""The rate of duplication is great.""Metallic is user-friendly, cost-effective, and the technical support is impressive.""Commvault Backup & Recovery's search utility is its most valuable feature.""A very stable and scalable platform (you can backup/restore/protect a couple of MBs or hundred of TBs as well from the same console/platform).""The most valuable feature is sharing data sets like they're in a private cloud. We call it our "private cloud" because we can share anything that is inside our backup set with our colleagues or with other people, and yet, everything is still in Belgrade, in Serbia. It's not somewhere else on cloud servers. Everything is in our environment.""It's great for getting data back.""Security measures, including encryption and threat detection, contribute significantly to data protection, safeguarding against unauthorized access and cyber threats."

Cons
"Google has stopped supporting the on-premise version of the tool.""While the product does support various databases, the company needs to make more of an effort to support N-minus-one compatibility.""Lacks the option to price backup costs within the solution itself.""Areas that need improvement would be the support for recovery in the physical environment.""The solution doesn't support AIX software or in-cloud, and we have a lot of servers running on AIX and Oracle.""The initial setup is complex."

More Actifio Cons →

"Sometimes the web page doesn't work. I don't know if it's an outage or if there is maintenance going on in the background. From time to time, Commvault will suddenly stop taking backups for some intervals.""This product is overly complex to operate and run.""Its dashboard could be improved to provide a summarized version of all the jobs instead of having to go through each one of them. We should easily be able to glance at all issues. If I had not gone with the on-premise version, I would have had regular reports with the cloud version. It would be an advantage if they increase the compression rate of the backup. I am keeping it on-prem, so I'll need more disks depending on the policies that I have in the retention period. Its price could also be lower. If a good solution can be cheaper, it is always an advantage.""It would be a bit unfair to say that it's complex, due to the fact that it supports so many different workloads, however, if there's anything that is a bit of a shortcoming, then it's the fact that there's a bit of complexity involved when dealing with the product.""The main area for improvement is that we sometimes experience negative effects from their updates. If they had a larger test area for their updates, that would help.""Just to keep it running is time-consuming. There are five people on my team. Commvault was supposed to be one of the less time-consuming solutions, but in reality it takes 60 percent of our time just to keep it running, and that's not even fine-tuning it; that's just to keep it running.""The stability of the tool could be improved.""They should move the CommServe outside of Windows machines and the database should be distributed among servers. It's still a single point of failure."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing is on a case by case basis."
  • "Support is very good. They send out a VM link and help you fix any issues."
  • "Actifio is cheaper than other tools."

  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
