We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The speed of the queries is valuable.""The DNS resolution is the most valuable feature.""From a security perspective, Microsoft is much better than other cloud providers.""The best feature is the domain register. The other great feature is that whenever you create any resources, Azure DNS will automatically create a record for you.""Azure DNS provides value beyond its user-friendly interface and easy learning curve.""The tool is easy to manage and use.""Integration with other Azure services is good.""Azure DNS is a user-friendly and very easy-to-manage solution."

"One of the key features enabling us to operate at our current scale is robust automation.""It's a critical infrastructure piece. This is where all the IPs are named for the whole organization. It's a big deal. It has all the features related to DNS and DHCP. It's pretty amazing.""Since implementing BlueCat, we have experienced fewer problems, anomalies, and strange issues.""The most valuable features are scalability and cloud infrastructure.""The solution includes automatic management of segments.""One of the better things about Integrity is that the underlying code it uses is an ISC DNS and DHCP. It's not like some of the other vendors that have created their own version of DNS.""As a defense contractor, we must meet many compliance standards regarding logging, configuration, and administrative access. BlueCat is one of the few products that combines all the compliance components in a secure, reliable solution.""This inherent stability, derived from its Linux-based architecture, provides a well-established and reliable platform."

Cons
"I would like to see more integration with other platforms, improved stability, enhanced security, and better pricing because there is always room for improvement.""The solution’s pricing could be improved.""The support from Microsoft in India is an area of concern where improvements are required.""The solution should provide better pricing.""The product must be integrated with additional security features.""The CDN integration could be improved.""What needs improvement in Azure DNS is visibility in terms of troubleshooting. It's similar to the area for improvement in Azure Network Watcher, where I can see how the source is going out if I'm troubleshooting a source destination. I can also see the destination. As for seeing how the packet travels, that's what should be improved. It's still lacking in visibility. Suppose I'm looking into backend machines, and if I'm hitting another NPM machine or any machine on the other side, there should be visibility. The tool should tell you that a specific machine is passing through a VPN gateway or route table, routing to a third-party firewall, and then dropping. Azure DNS should show an accurate answer to help the customers, which is its area for improvement.""The licensing cost should be improved."

"I would like the GUI to be similar to AWS and Azure, where we can simply click on an item to expand it and see all the information on one page, without having to click to the next page.""The DNS and DHCP servers for guests are separated from the main organization. A lot of times, it doesn't allow you to choose a default IP space. When I log in to the GUI, it doesn't default to where I want it to be. So far, I haven't been able to find out how to change or specify that so that it defaults to a particular space, such as the main org. If I'm looking for the IP space for guests, I need to toggle and go to the guest site. Most of the time, I want the IP space for the org to be my main space, but it doesn't give me the ability to do that, or I haven't been able to find that over the last two years.""One complaint about the interface is BlueCat's handling of subzones.""Usability needs to be better.""The solution does not export reports in a comprehensive format.""During our testing phase, we encountered some issues with Active Directory and DNS reverse lookups.""When you replace an appliance, there are many configuration steps, so adding zero-touch provisioning would be helpful. It can be quite tedious and time-consuming to replace a device if it fails or deploy a new one.""The ease of use is where I got to give a little knock on them. Once you start using the tool, it becomes very easy. It's actually quite easy to use. The problem that I run into is documentation. The documentation could be a little bit richer. Documentation has always been a little pet peeve for me with them."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solution payment model is based on how many users use it. This is not an expensive solution, but it can depend on how long we use it. However, if the price was decreased it would be helpful."
  • "We have an enterprise license agreement with Microsoft. Their pricing is competitive. I would rate it a three and a half out of five."
  • "The solution itself is free but you need to pay for the Microsoft Azure infrastructure and host your domains in Azure to use it."
  • "The solution's price is reasonable."
  • "The price is low and it's a reasonable price for that product."
  • "Azure DNS is a cheap solution, and I rate it a two out of ten for pricing."
  • "We use the tool's free version."
  • "To use Azure DNS, I need to buy the license meant for Windows Server."

  • "Adaptive DNS's price depends on your network ranges, the services you want, and the level of support you require."
  • "Overall, it's a decent price for the product. There are other vendors that have support models and costs that are, sometimes, double what Bluecat charges."
  • "They're competitive. The way they run their model is good. Could it stand some tweaking? Sure. There are some items there. One of the things I looked at in the recent past was their container solutions. You have to pay for licensing to use their containerized platform, but the licensing doesn't include the container licensing itself. I'd love to be able to have one big package per se."
  • "Compared to other solutions, BlueCat Integrity offers a competitive price."
  • "BlueCat Integrity meets our expectations and aligns with our budget forecast."
  • "Overall, I would say that it is priced fairly, though perhaps a bit on the high side."
  • "We paid around $5,000 per year for SolarWinds, and now we pay around $20,000 per year for BlueCat, but we have less downtime and fewer issues with DNS and DHCP."
  • "While BlueCat falls on the expensive side, its exceptional customer service and consistent quality justify the cost."
