We performed a comparison between Azure DNS and Cisco Umbrella based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: In this comparison, Cisco Umbrella takes the lead. It is easy to deploy, has a free version and a paid version of the product, as well as good support. In contrast, Azure DNS users share mixed opinions on deployment and support.
"It is a scalable solution."
"Can be configured to achieve a hundred percent reliability"
"The initial setup is easy and the solution is user-friendly"
"From a security perspective, Microsoft is much better than other cloud providers."
"The most valuable feature of Azure DNS is it works automatically after configuration. Additionally, the solution is secure."
"The solution is easy to use and flexible."
"Integration with other Azure services is good."
"The most valuable features of Azure DNS are the DNS forwarder and the DNS additional record editions."
"It has the ability to quickly block new threats."
"We've found it to be stable and good for our customers."
"I like that it integrates with the infrastructure. I also like the kind of data and intelligence that's built-in. It helps create innovative reports for security."
"Reports provide insight into internet usage and information helpful in creating QoS rules."
"The weekly reportings are great. The investigation is super and the application management is equally great."
"The documentation is good, and we have been able to resolve any issues ourselves."
"I like the DNS layer security."
"The most valuable features are the dashboard, visibility, and reporting capabilities. Our customers can see how much Umbrella is protecting their organization. If you don't know what you've got, you can't protect it. With Umbrella, you get the visibility and see the protection that it's providing. We can get PDF reports on a weekly basis of any malware activities and any denial of service or command-and-control-type activities."
"Azure DNS sticks mostly with the Azure native solution and doesn't scale well in a multi-cloud or hybrid environment."
"The scalability could improve."
"Azure DNS does provide enhanced support for applications and includes several security features to protect against threats. One of the security features it offers is the ability to detect and prevent dangling DNS records, which can be used in cyber attacks. Dangling DNS records occur when a website owner creates a domain name but forgets to remove the CNAME record, leaving the domain vulnerable to takeover by malicious actors. Azure DNS includes security measures to identify and prevent such threats, helping to keep your DNS infrastructure secure. However, if Microsoft could add more security capabilities to the DNS, that would be great to detect and identify anomalies that are happening to prevent cyber threats."
"Domain registration is one of the problems. We need to go to application services or web apps to purchase the domain instead. If that were to be equivalent to AWS's Route 53 that would be good. But, it is not as flexible as that."
"The DNSSEC feature is not yet available on the DNS server so it needs to be added."
"There are some issues with the solution's performance where improvements are needed."
"The security features and stability needs to be bettered."
"The support from Microsoft in India is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"This solution does not give us full, 360-degree protection."
"Its DNS service does not support IPv6 query."
"Network connectivity was a bit of a challenge at the beginning, but we were able to get the right help from Cisco."
"There is room for improvement in the dashboard. It could stand to be a bit more detailed. I would also like to be able to customize the dashboard to focus more on what is important for my company."
"They should provide more integrations and bring things together so that there is a more standard feel to their platform. We also use Cisco ISE, and it has a very different feel from Cisco Umbrella."
"User interface could be a little smoother and more intuitive."
"Security, overall, can always be improved."
"I feel that the application needs other characteristics that are available with other applications in the market."
