Q&A Highlights
Question: Which is better - Signavio Process Manager or Celonis?
Answer: SAP Signavio Process Manager is a very robust industrial-grade business process modeling tool. It is easy to use and does not require too much technological involvement. This solution has a collaboration tool that keeps everyone up-to-date about what, why, and how to work. The workflow accelerator can automate repetitive work, ensuring teams can be more productive over time. The reporting on this solution can be slow, though, and SAP Signavio does not integrate very well with other solutions. We experienced some downtime and dropped connections, which makes the stability seem problematic. It would be better if it was more flexible on the customization point of view, where it displays only what the individual user needs to see. There needs to be a better way to give users correct permissions, eg. whether to design or view. Celonis is a very strong and powerful solution. It can process a large amount of data quickly and seamlessly. This solution is very intuitive and very easy to use. Celonis has a data mining tool that can identify cost differentials. It will also gather background data from different solutions and put it into the dashboard to review the price differences from previous seasons. Celonis can be very rigid and we would like it to be more flexible - it has some very strong structures that must be followed. The licensing model can be complex too. You need to have a lot of knowledge and skill to work with this solution. It really should allow for more customization to ease the process of working with multiple solutions. Conclusion Celonis is very specific to process mining and that is what it is best used for. You need to have a knowledgeable team, as this solution can be very tough to implement. It can also be very expensive. We were looking for a solution that was easy to use, was cost-effective for the size of our enterprise, and had a great performance. SAP Signavio Process Manager was the best fit for us.

Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"With the help of data mining, we can identify different costs. Celonis does background research into the data from the different solutions and puts it into the dashboard and so we can see the differences between the pricing over the previous years.""The documentation, multi-hop analysis, and SLA breaches are the most valuable features we have discovered.""Celonis is one of the best solutions on the market. It offers you a lot of training materials and exposure to its ecosystem. Celonis is trying its best to prepare an ecosystem for it because, without an ecosystem, you will not be able to scale up.""From a features perspective, the discovery and analytics parts of Celonis have been valuable, especially the analytics and all of the out-of-the-box process connectors.""find Action Engine for notifying the user, and also Studio Spark, and knowledge models; all these features are useful.""Celonis’ Process Cockpit is valuable.""Technical support is really good. For me, the sales support matters more. When I'm in a sales cycle, the Celonis sales teams are very helpful. They reach out to me from day zero.""The solution has very detailed documentation for technical items so it is very easy for developers to use."

"SAP Signavio Process Manager is very responsive.""The benefit of this application is that I can immediately describe processes and form normative documents for these processes. For me, this is definitely a plus. Сurrently, I work in a company that is not involved in the structural alignment of business processes. They have huge gaps in this. Nothing is described and there are no norms. Therefore, the formation of regulatory documents, rules, and descriptions of processes, not only in graphic form, but also in documentary form is an absolute plus. I have not found this in other process programs.""The ability to leave comments in the Collaboration Hub is a good and easy way for the employees to give feedback on the processes.""The most valuable feature for me is usability.""The interface is very intuitive and includes a drag-and-drop function.""In my opinion, the most valuable feature is the editor and its ease of use, and when people are looking at it, they can make comments about changes that need to be made.""This is one of the best solutions and it is easy to implement.""It's easy and fast. It's very quick to work with process teams in terms of improving processes. You just have to send them a URL and to have a process in front of them. I don't use all of the possibilities we have in Signavio. This has made it easier for people to adopt, because when we scrambled the process team together and started a process of improvement, it improved their process. They are much more involved than they had been earlier, and they can also use Signavio to make smaller improvements in the process for themselves. There are many more interactions between the process teams and Signavio than in our previous solution, where you had to hire in a professional process modeler. It's been a great improvement."

Cons
"In the solution, you have access to how the process is, and are able to integrate that with other systems that allow you to make changes to the process itself, this process can be improved.""Celonis should have the ability to automate in the next release, in my opinion.""I would really appreciate it if Celonis had significant compatibility with robotic process automation solutions. Once they define the process and understand it, streamline it, optimize it, and take inputs around it. When they reconfigure the process, there should be good compatibility with any of the automation tools, wherein I can integrate for robotic process automation, where I can streamline many of these processes on the application itself. Today, I need to extract this process and reload it into other tools, like UiPath, to integrate them with Automation Anywhere. If this tool can provide that efficiency, that would be great. I'm a data analytics guy. I lead a data analytics team. So technically, I would primarily look at if this can give me a visualization opportunity and integrate that in terms of the data.""They need to provide readymade value stream mapping.""They are killing the customers with high licensing prices. The tool’s pricing could be cheaper. Small enterprises wouldn’t be able to afford the tool.""We want to see its linkage to Robotic Process Automation. We would also like to see how can it lead to the implementation side and whether the transition is smooth.""For example, we would like to see improvement of the simulation capabilities to include a BPMN-compliant modeler. That is, we would like to be able to connect the simulation to the BPMN modeler. I think it's one of the features that is missing in Celonis.""The technical support is very bad."

More Celonis Cons →

"I would like to be able to link a single word within a textual description directly to the glossary.""One of the most important points in Signavio that would be a great change would be the management of variants of the process.""Moreover, the functionality to show different process variations with "views" could be improved to allow more customization of these views. I believe this would increase the user experience and administrative efforts maintaining these process variations.""It could use a better user interface, one that is more efficient.""The user administration, the user-group administration, and the license models need improvement.""I would like to be able to include images in the documentation.""For us, it would help a lot if this solution had floating licenses.""I think the interface itself can improve a bit. I think the interface is still stuck about a decade in the past, if I may be so brutal about it. Some of the buttons are really small, so you can't even see them. I think it needs upgrading to the 21st century with apps and the way we use mobile phones."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is quite a significant investment. From a cost perspective, they need to reevaluate the licensing model. The cost is justified, but they need to make the licensing model slightly different."
  • "Evaluating the price of the solution can be a difficult question. It is all about the business case and the return of the investments. That is typically how we also see this type of solution. It depends very much on the return. The entry-level is focused on enterprise size companies, for the SMB segment is it is out of their range. It is definitely expensive."
  • "I was not involved in that, but I am sure it was cost-effective for them. That's why they made the decision to take it."
  • "The cost of the software for us or the client is on the higher end."
  • "The solution requires an annual license. There is room for improvement because it is priced for organizations and not for individuals. For an individual, it would be too expensive for them to use it."
  • "Celonis is expensive. It's not for mid or low-sized enterprises because the license price is high. Overall, it's quite pricey compared to anything else that I have heard about. But the good thing is that they don't charge per user. They charge for the data model."
  • "Celonis offers free learning possibilities. I am using the free version of Celonis."
  • "It is an expensive solution."

  • "Lower than the competition with highly flexible licensing plans."
  • "My client purchased one editor license and the collaboration hub, which covers up to a hundred people."
  • "I think that the price of the licenses is between $2,000 USD and $3,000 USD per license per year, plus the hub usage. I cannot remember the exact cost, but it is affordable."
  • "I think we're spending about $150,000 a year on licensing costs."
  • "SaaS has no setup cost, just licensing fees."
  • "This solution provides really great value for the money."
  • "We are only able to use the free academic licenses because we have a financial constraint. We are not able to pay for commercial licenses to use this kind of tool."
  • "Although Signavio is a feature-rich solution, it is expensive for companies who haven’t reached a certain maturity level in their process management initiatives."
