We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features are that it's reliable, simple, and performs well.""Unified Manager, System Manager, and Cloud Manager are all GUI-based. It's easy for somebody who has not been exposed to this for years to pick it up and work with it.""The stability has been really good.""The Cloud Manager application that's on the NetApp cloud site is easy to use. You can set up and schedule replications from there, so you don't have to go into the ONTAP system. Another feature we've recently started using is the scheduled power off. We started with one client and have been slowly implementing it with others. We can cut costs by not having the VM run all the time. It's only on when it's doing replication, but it powers off after.""The most valuable features are tiering to S3 and being able to turn it on and off, based on a schedule.""It is much easier to control data since we can run queries across all our platforms with just one solution. Not only that, we can also monitor all the platforms with Active IQ, where we can see all the alerts, messages, and space consumption through a single application. This is regardless if the data is on-prem or AWS. It is much more efficient.""Another feature which gets a lot of attention in our environment is the File Services Solutions in the cloud, because it's a completely, fully-managed service. We don't have to take care of any updates, upgrades, or configurations.""One of the features our customers like is that it can be used from one cloud provider to another. They can use it from Azure to AWS or vice versa. That way, they don't need to use the same provider for backups. If something goes wrong on the primary site, having the same data in another cloud service provider is important."

"The tool is very user-friendly.""Basically, I set Wasabi up and forget it. I'll monitor it every once in a while just to make sure that it's working correctly.""The most valuable feature of Wasabi is the backups.""The most valuable feature of Wasabi is its cost.""Wasabi is an easy-to-use solution.""The initial setup is straightforward.""We can store our videos on hot storage, allowing immediate access to them."

Cons
"Something we would like to see is the ability to better manage the setup and tie it to our configuration management database. We manage our whole IT infrastructure out of that database.""NetApp CVO needs to have more exposure and mature further before it will have greater acceptance.""I would like NetApp to come up with an easier setup for the solution.""I rate the scalability a five out of ten.""I'm very happy with the solution, the only thing that needs improvement is the web services API. It could be a little bit more straightforward. That's my only issue with it. It can get pretty complex.""I would like to see them improve the perspective of start and search in the panels. This would allow for better visualization of the contents that are captured in the tool.""The solution could be better when we're connecting to our S3 side of the house. Right now, it doesn't see it, and I'm not sure why.""I would like some more performance matrices to know what it is doing. It has some matrices inherent to the Cloud Volumes ONTAP. But inside Cloud Manager, it would also be nice to see. You can have a little Snapshot, then drill down if you go a little deeper."

"The solution’s user reporting could be improved.""Having the ability to upload and download data using third-party apps such as Mega which can sync to the desktop would be excellent.""I don't have enough experience to understand the nuances of where they might improve.""The solution must allow the extension of the retention period.""The scalability could improve.""Setting up users on the appliance should be improved.""The scalability could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was good, but it was a test system, not a real purchase."
  • "We purchased the product directly from NetApp."
  • "The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable."
  • "The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately."
  • "Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration."
  • "They allow a special price if you are working closely with them. Since we have a lot of NetApp systems, we got some kind of discount. That's something they do for other customers, not just for us. The price was fair. In addition to the licensing fees, you're paying Amazon for your usage..."
  • "The standard pricing is online. Pricing depends. If you're using the PayGo model, then it's just the normal costs on the Microsoft page. If you're using Bring Your Own License, which is what we're doing, then you get with your sales contact at NetApp and start figuring out what price is the best, in the end, for your company."
  • "In addition to the standard licensing fees, there are fees for Azure, the VMs themselves and for data transfer."
