Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Support for plug-ins (RMQ, Redis etc.) is a valuable feature.""The feature I found most valuable is being able to design my queries. It's easy to design a query.""The service maps that it creates, the health maps that it creates, the insights that it provides, etc., are all quite useful.""What I like best about New Relic APM is its user interface because it's simple. The most valuable feature of New Relic APM is end-to-end monitoring.""The synthetic alert is the most valuable feature in New Relic APM. I also like the time travel feature and find traceability useful in the solution. New Relic APM also has good response times.""The most valuable feature of New Relic APM is the dashboard, New Relic Insights. I configured my own dashboard to monitor certain parameters.""It has prevented failures from occurring in our production environment.""New Relic has helped us in terms of the optimizing our print and loading times."

"The diagnostics and configuration are the solution's most valuable aspects.""The most valuable feature of Micro Focus Diagnostics is the information reported from an application that has timed out. For example, when you're Googling, or you're booking a ticket for Burj Khalifa here, the longest tower in the world, there are situations where the system can time out. There are times when you might not receive a response on the payment gateway or you are not able to find the reservation. The customer only receives the information that the session has timed out.""For banking and telecom solutions, it's been quite useful."

Cons
"The solution must provide better support for Azure Web Apps service.""There are times when you restart the engines and the servers have a unique ID for the host and you need to remove the server. It is difficult because some are on-premise and others are production hosts. Having downtime is not very good when updating. However, it is not a constant issue.""I would like to be able to invest less time in IT and ad hocs. We should be concentrating on other issues.""One thing I'd like to see in any APM, especially New Relic, is the ability to use distributed transactions. When one microservice calls another, it calls another database and microservice. The entire data visualization layer will not be able to correlate from one microservice from end to end and return on that path. Distributed transactions would be a great addition that would make life simpler. Unfortunately, no APM has that end-to-end capability.""In addition, its difficult to have a predictive tool to see how the application would behave in the future when it basically only shows the historical data.""Data Dog captures the entire session and then provides it as a video player path, which gives more insight into what the user was doing. It's pretty impressive. New Relic does that, yet it only captures using a couple of screenshots, which is not very detailed since you are unable to see the entire user flow.""It is very difficult to award the service level cycles at an endpoint level.""Documentation is one of the biggest things that I have a problem with since its documentation is not clear sometimes."

"The interface could be more user friendly.""The interface is very old, and not very user-friendly. Most of our clients don't like the UI.""The GUI and metrics of Micro Focus Diagnostics can be improved. The metrics the solution gathers can be limited and could be enhanced by giving more details."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
  • "The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
  • "Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
  • "It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly."
  • "If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity."
  • "I recommend using the free version of New Relic. If you like the free version and understand its importance for your company, you can move to the trial. Then, you can migrate to the paid version."
  • "There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high. The feature is very nice, but I tried it during the trial period, and the current price makes it impossible to use."
  • "They gave us aggressive discounts when they were brought in for the first time, but they have also kept them for the year-on-year renewals, which has been absolutely fine."
