Pros
"The solution is stable.""The scalability potential is very good.""The tool's UI is very convenient enough to help you manage multiple clusters in the cloud or the company, making it a product with which you can manage different clusters and locations.""The customized deployment process is the most valuable feature in Rancher Labs.""The solution has a lot of good features, such as you can access the console and edit through the GUI. The dashboard and the UI are designed well, user-friendly, and easy to manage, and access.""Rancher Labs is a very user-friendly tool.""The product is simple to use for a beginner.""The most valuable feature of the solution is that it is an open-source solution that is easy to deploy."

"The banking transactions, inquiries, and account opening have been the most valuable.""Centralized control of container resources is most valuable.""The software is user-friendly and straightforward to use, which is favorable to a developer.""I think it's a pretty scalable tool...The solution's technical support has been pretty good.""On OpenShift, it's easy to scale applications. We can easily scale up or scale down.""The console or the GUI of OpenShift is awesome. You can do a lot of things from there. You can perform administration tasks as well as development tasks.""It is very lightweight and can be deployed very fast, especially when it comes to containers.""The most valuable are security features, particularly when operating in the cloud."

Cons
"The solution could improve by adding more features in the dashboard, such as monitoring, scanning, and security. This would be a great benefit.""I can't migrate to the newer version.""One area for improvement in Rancher Labs is the development aspect.""We have found that the auto-secure feature of this solution doesn't always work, and could be improved to be more reliable, particularly when working with business critical applications.""We're looking for something that is even easier to use. It's a bit complicated.""They should improve application visibility along with code visibility.""There needs to be an improvement in observability and microservice monitoring tools in Rancher Labs.""The biggest room for improvement in Rancher Labs would be to have a proper upgrading plan."

More Rancher Labs Cons →

"The price needs to be improved in OpenShift Container Platform. When I choose this, the product is the first factor that we have to make a long analysis to compare the real cost for the other services. However, price is high.""OpenShift has certain restrictions in terms of managing the cluster when it's running on a public cloud. For example, identity and access management integration with the IM of AWS is quite difficult. It requires some open-source tools to integrate. This is one area where I always see room for improvement.""In my experience, the issues are not always simply technical. They do stem from technical challenges, but they struggle with the topic of adoption. When you encounter all of the customer pull, there are normally several tiers of your client pop that can adopt either the fundamental features or a little more advanced ones. The majority of the time, the challenge is determining how to drive adoption, how to sell the product to the customer, and how much time they can spend to really utilize those advanced features. If we get into much more detail, but this is from my perspective as the platform engineer and not the end customer, the ability of the end user to be able to debug potential issues with their application That is arguably the most important, let's say, work throughput in my area.""The UI could be more user-friendly to drive tasks more effectively through the interface.""The product monitoring tool does not work for us.""OpenShift has a pretty steep learning curve. It's not an easy tool to use. It's not only OpenShift but Kubernetes itself. The good thing is that Red Hat provides specific targeted training. There are five or six pieces of training where you can get certifications. The licenses for OpenShift are pretty expensive, so they could be cheaper because the competition isn't sleeping, and Red Hat must take that into account.""One area for improvement is that we can't currently run Docker inside a container, as it clashes with security consents. It would be good if we could change that.""With the recent trend of cloud-native, fully managed serverless services, I don't see much documentation about how a customer should move from on-prem to the cloud, or what is the best way to do a lift-and-shift. Even if you are on AWS OCP, which is self-managed infra services, and you want to use the ROSA managed services, what is the best way to achieve that migration? I don't see documentation for these kinds of use cases from Red Hat."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There is an annual subscription. The price of the solution should be cheaper and have better pricing flexibility."
  • "The solution is free and open source but there is a fee for support."
  • "This is an open-source solution, so there are no licensing costs involved."
  • "Although Rancher Labs is an open-source solution, they also offer a paid version, where you buy the support when needed."
  • "The pricing of the solution sits in the mid range, not high and not low. It has a fixed price that you pay every month."
  • "There are no hidden charges attached to the product unless a user opts for the premium support offered by the solution."
  • "The cost is reasonable since it's open source. Rancher effectively addresses container orchestration trends, especially for those with some Kubernetes knowledge."

  • "OpenShift with Red Hat support is pretty costly. We have done a comparison between AWS EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Services) which provides fully managed services from AWS. It's built on open-source-based Kubernetes clusters and it is much cheaper compared to Red Hat, but it is a little expensive compared to ECS provided by AWS."
  • "It depends on who you're talking to. For a large corporation, it is acceptable, other than the significant infrastructure requirements. For a small organization, it is in no way suitable, and we'd go for Amazon's container solution."
  • "The license to use the OpenShift Container Platform is free. If you are capable with Java you can modify it."
  • "The price is slightly on the higher side. It is something that can be worked on because most of the businesses now have margins."
  • "The pricing is a bit more expensive than expected."
  • "We paid for Cloud Pak for integration. It all depends on how many VMs or how many CPUs you are using. They do the licensing based on that."
  • "We currently have an annual license renewal."
  • "It largely depends on how much money they earn from the application being deployed; you don't normally deploy an app just for the purpose of having it. You must constantly look into your revenue and how much you spend every container, minute, or hour of how much it is working."
