We performed a comparison between Dynatrace and Instana Dynamic APM based on real PeerSpot user reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Dynatrace is the preferred option over Instana Dynamic APM as it offers more comprehensive features and better AI capabilities, and has provided significant ROI through cost savings. While Instana Dynamic APM has a user-friendly GUI and fast implementation, it lacks certain features and detailed information about issues. Dynatrace's higher pricing is outweighed by the benefits of automation and decreased mean time to identification and repair.
"The ability to real-time monitor servers and databases without any major drain on application resources is invaluable."
"It helps DevOps find all its problems easily and analyzes performance problems."
"They have quick answers for scalability."
"The technical support has always been responsive."
"The real user experience monitoring is very helpful. We can see what real users are seeing, what JavaScript errors, what pages are very slow for them. As well, it helps to correlate the front-end users to the back-end application components, and the corresponding Method which is failing, as well. We are able to go to the correct spot and fix the issue."
"The agent deployment is the most valuable. You don't need to do any configuration. You just deploy the agents, and it can automatically detect your infrastructure. That was the greatest feature that we saw in Dynatrace. If there is any database, it can detect it automatically and present everything to you."
"The ability to drill down from an alert into a problem and pinpoint the source of an issue saves my client teams hours of time."
"Google says is that you have a number of things on which you should measure your performance. One is if there's an error or not. Dynatrace tells you whether is an error or not. Second is saturation, whether something is getting saturated. You should be aware of what is getting saturated. Dynatrace even tells you that. The third is if there is a latency. Network latency is also told to me by Dynatrace."
"The overall capabilities are the most valuable."
"Visually, it's very good. It provides everything needed for dynamic detection, which is very useful."
"Sometimes it's able to provide a proper RCA on its own. It's able to correlate different events that occurred and that becomes like an RCA in itself."
"With auto-discovery, we didn't need to consider much. We just installed the agent on the host and it was able to detect everything from the host level up to the service level, for whatever stack was installed, and that includes containers and dockers."
"With Instana, the interface and the UI are very simple to use."
"Instana is very fast to implement and deploy because the dashboards are automated and don't need configuration."
"Its GUI is really good and it easy to understand for non-technical users."
"The most valuable feature of Instana Dynamic APM is auto-instrumentation."
"I do not like the performance of the UI. It is really slow."
"The web-based UI needs to be improved."
"The solution is a bit pricey."
"We're developing more and more microservices and, each time, for an AppMon license, you have to deploy it, you have to configure it, you to get charged for it. It's very time-consuming."
"It would help if Dynatrace allowed more features that work with metrics like Grafana or New Relic."
"There is still a certain amount of technical skills needed to be able to understand what you are seeing on it. You also need a large amount of technical or infrastructure skills to understand how and where to install it."
"It was difficult to initially use the solution, how to use it and where to navigate."
"We would like to see more external tool integration, which is critical for us."
"Maybe log monitoring could be better."
"The integration could be improved with more plugins or open API."
"I think that Instana should improve the university and the certification process, so the users can find experts in Instana with their certification module process."
"Its SLI and SLA features need improvement in setting up alerts."
"They could improve the product’s dashboards and provide more dashboard options."
"We should be able to go back to scenarios during or before the issue. There should be something like a history playback. Such a feature or functionality would be good."
"We'd always like to see additional functionalities."
"New Relic has a better UI in terms of how it presents the data."
