Enables High Availability Although It's Expensive

What is most valuable?

High availability.

How has it helped my organization?

I proposed and set up DR and HA solutions for customers who are high profile and in need of business critical functionalities. Implementing these solutions raised the company profile considerably, as the solutions are exactly what organizations need these days.

What needs improvement?

The product requires too many VMs as intermediaries.

For how long have I used the solution?

One year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No, the internet provides the stability factor.

No.

How are customer service and support?

Eight out of 10, due to the local support offered by local distributors.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Yes, our old solution used tape backups and didn't allow HA for secondary sites, active-passive, etc.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup is a little complex but there are guides so it is manageable.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is very expensive and licensing is on an annual basis, but this is the norm for a lot of providers today.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Yes, Veeam.

What other advice do I have?

Go with Veeam. Veeam is cheaper and more flexible and uses few VM intermediaries.

It allowed me to build a low-cost DR site that replicates from the backup, but it currently lacks SIFS (NetApp or EMC) support from the UDP console.

What is most valuable?

  • Support for physical systems
  • Agentless backup for VMware & Hyper-V
  • Global deduplication
  • Remote replication
  • Virtual standbuy

How has it helped my organization?

With UDP, I built a low-cost DR site that replicates from the backup.

What needs improvement?

For the next release, I'd like to see

  • SIFS (NetApp or EMC) support from the UDP console.
  • In the current version we need to integrate with Arcserv backup 16.5 NDMP module
  • Tighter integration with tape.
  • Better Integration with RHA.
  • Multi-Tenancy
  • Virtual Stand by Seamless Integration form hyper v VHDX source to VMware VMDK

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP).

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

No issues encountered.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No issues encountered.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No issues encountered.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used Backup Exec before. I switched because UDP is agentless, which works well for my VMware backup to disk, as well as being easy to sync with the remote site

How was the initial setup?

The setup is straightforward, and in less than three hours, I got the first backup running.

What about the implementation team?

I did it in-house.

What was our ROI?

It took us 12 months to get.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You should go for the three year license.
