Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like that Cohesity offers the chance to have data on-premises and on the cloud. All the data is automatically sent to the cloud.""The SQL Backup and Restore is very easy.""The restores are easy to do and have made it so that we can incorporate restores into our troubleshooting processes.""The customer service and support are fast and professional.""The solution is stable.""The most valuable features are the rapid VM restores and the ability to quickly find files and download them directly to my desktop so that I can put them where I need them to be.""Its flexibility is the most valuable. Being a cloud version, it has more flexibility, and it allows me to incorporate different workloads and consolidate all the data in one place. It has good high availability, and it is also easy to maintain.""Instant recovery options are a big benefit for urgent restores, as we don't need to wait for hours or days for a restore to complete before being able to access the files."

"This solution is very flexible and user-friendly — it's very good. It's very good with our virtual and physical infrastructure.""The main feature for Veeam is that it's built primarily for virtualization, such as VMware or Hyper-V.""The most valuable feature is the instant recovery.""I'm satisfied with tech support, because the solution is so stable that I haven't had the need to engage any of the engineers yet.""The solution is easy to install and very stable.""The solution is stable and the performance is good.""Veeam Is very useful for most environments and can scale up in most environments - such as Amazon or Azure.""The backups we have been receiving from Veeam Backup Replication on-premise have been good."

Cons
"Reporting is one area that isn't as robust as it could be.""Reporting is quite limited and not customizable.""Features I would like to see include a more visible data lifecycle monitoring tab, and an easier to read backup status dashboard.""There is limited support for legacy systems, which is something that could be improved.""Many of the reports are basic, at most, and at times we had to open a support ticket to help find or develop a report for our needs.""The one area where we would like to see additional improvements is with reporting. There are very granular reports from each grid. There are also some built-in reports within Helios (SAS Management Console) that offers basic reporting. However, for complex, large-enterprise environments, a more robust reporting engine that supports detailed audit reporting and enhanced ad hoc reports would be welcome.""Add the ability to delete View Boxes and External Targets in the GUI.""When a new release is launched, there may be some bugs that need to be addressed by the developers. However, they promptly resolve these issues, and the software runs smoothly once again."

More Cohesity DataProtect Cons →

"All our customers would like a cheaper license and more flexible deployment.""I cannot recall coming across any features that were lacking.""The implementation of the features can be improved. Currently, there is no segregation of duty. Normally, any backup software or client service software is implemented in a way where one person is responsible for the implementation of the server, and one is responsible for the client, but Veeam Backup & Replication is not implemented in that way. Therefore, restores don't work like that. The backup guys have to do the restores, which is not a good thing. Its pricing should also be improved. It is quite expensive.""There's a lot of room for improvement surrounding the backup process.""The scalability of the product in large organizations is an area of concern where improvements are required.""They have an integration with MS SQL, and you have to license MS SQL. This is something they need to change. They should go for an open-source database or a free SQL because you're already buying this product, and you shouldn't have to buy another product.""The ease of use could be improved, but I don't have a very deep amount of experience in Veeam, so it's difficult to say what could be improved.""There should be better use of the external hard drives."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
  • "If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
  • "The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day."
  • "Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
  • "We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
  • "With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
  • More Cohesity DataProtect Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "If you have Exchange, Oracle, SQL, or a supported SAN, then I suggest getting at least an Enterprise edition. It’ll pay for itself in no time."
  • "The pricing and licensing is better than the competitors, but it could be better."
  • "Room for improvement is actually more in the way of licensing. The really good and useful features are in the Enterprise plus edition, and that one is really expensive."
  • "Since pricing is per socket, it is not expensive to add capacity as you go along."
  • "The licensing is based on the number of cores you have in your ESX or Hyper-V environment."
  • "The price is a bit high. Licensing type is VMware friendly, so it is easy."
  • "I think the price is good when you choose the Essentials Suite, but when you buy a full featured version (for instance the Enterprise Plus) the price is a little bit expensive."
  • "Setup cost and licensing of Veeam are nothing to complain about when compared to similar products for enterprise backup recovery solutions."
