Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is quite stable.""Data Science Studio's data science model is very useful.""Cloud-based process run helps in not keeping the systems on while processes are running.""The most valuable feature is the set of visual data preparation tools.""Extremely easy to use with its GUI-based functionality and large compatibility with various data sources. Also, maintenance processes are much more automated than ever, with fewer errors.""The most valuable feature of this solution is that it is one tool that can do everything, and you have the ability to very easily push your design to prediction.""I like the interface, which is probably my favorite part of the solution. It is really user-friendly for an IT person.""If many teams are collaborating and sharing Jupyter notebooks, it's very useful."

"It is very easy to test different kinds of machine-learning algorithms with different parameters. You choose the algorithm, drag and drop to the workspace, and plug the dataset into this component.""The solution is very fast and simple for a data science solution.""The solution is easy to use and has good automation capabilities in conjunction with Azure DevOps.""The solution is very easy to use, so far as our data scientists are concerned.""It has helped in reducing the time involved for coding using R and/or Python.""Their web interface is good.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the ability to use all of the cognitive services, prebuilt from Azure.""Auto email and studio are great features."

Cons
"The ability to have charts right from the explorer would be an improvement.""Dataiku still needs some coding, and that could be a difference where business data scientists would go for DataRobot more than Dataiku.""Although known for Big Data, the processing time to process 1.8 billion records was terribly slow (five days).""I think it would help if Data Science Studio added some more features and improved the data model.""The interface for the web app can be a bit difficult. It needs to have better capabilities, at least for developers who like to code. This is due to the fact that everything is enabled in a single window with different tabs. For them to actually develop and do the concurrent testing that needs to be done, it takes a bit of time. That is one improvement that I would like to see - from a web app developer perspective.""There were stability issues: 1) SQL operations, such as partitioning, had bugs and showed wrong results. 2) Due to server downtime, scheduled processes used to fail. 3) Access to project folders was compromised (privacy issue) with wrong people getting access to confidential project folders.""Server up-time needs to be improved. Also, query engines like Spark and Hive need to be more stable.""In the next release of this solution, I would like to see deep learning better integrated into the tool and not simply an extension or plugin."

More Dataiku Cons →

"I think it should be made cheaper for certain people…It may appear costlier for those who don't consider time important.""The interface is a bit overloaded.""The product must improve its documentation.""Technical support could improve their turnaround time.""Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio could improve by adding pixel or image analysis. This is a priority for me.""Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio worked okay for me, so right now, I don't have any room for improvement in mind for it. What I'd like added to Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio in its next version is a categorization for use cases or a template that makes the use cases simple to map out, for example, for healthcare, medical, or finance use cases, etc. This would be very helpful for users of Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio, especially for beginners.""As for the areas for improvement in Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio, I've provided feedback to Microsoft. My company is a Gold Partner of Microsoft, so I provided my feedback in another forum. Right now, it is the number of algorithms available in the designer that has to be improved, though I'm sure Microsoft does it regularly. When you take a use case approach, Microsoft has done that in a lot of places, but not on the Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio designer. When I say use case basis, I meant recommending a product or recommending similar products, so if Microsoft can list out use cases and give me a template, it will save me a lot of time and a lot of work because I don't have to scratch my head on which algorithm is better, and I can go with what's recommended by Microsoft. I'm sure that isn't a big task for the Microsoft team who must have seen thousands of use cases already, so out of that experience if the team can come up with a standard template, I'm sure it'll help a lot of organizations cut down on the development time, as well as going with the best industry-standard algorithms rather than experimenting with mine. What I'd like to see in the next version of Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio, apart from the use case template, is the improvement of the availability of libraries. Microsoft should also upgrade the Python versions because the old version of Python is still supported and it takes time for Microsoft to upgrade the support for Python. The pace of upgrading Python versions of Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio and making those libraries available should be sped up or increased.""Stability-wise, you may face certain problems when you fail to refresh the data in the solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The annual licensing fees are approximately €20 ($22 USD) per key for the basic version and €40 ($44 USD) per key for the version with everything."
  • "Pricing is pretty steep. Dataiku is also not that cheap."
  • More Dataiku Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "To use MLS is fairly cheap. Even the paid account is something like $20/month, unless you are provisioning large numbers of VMs for a Hadoop cluster. The main MS makes money with this solution is forcing the user to deploy their model on REST API, and being charged each time the API is accessed. There are several pricing tiers for the API. If you do not use the API, then value of MLS is to create rapid experiments ($20/month). The resulting model is not exportable to use, thus you’ll have to recreate the algorithms in either R or Python, which is what I did. MLS results gave me a direction to work with, the actual work is mostly done in R and Python outside of MLS."
  • "When we got our first models and were ready for the user acceptance testing, our licensing fees were between €2,500 ($2,750 USD) and €3,000 ($3,300 USD) monthly."
  • "From a developer's perspective, I find the price of this solution high."
  • "The licensing cost is very cheap. It's less than $50 a month."
  • "There is a license required for this solution."
  • "I am paying for it following a pay-as-you-go. So, the more I use it, the more it costs."
  • "In terms of pricing, for any cloud solution, you should know the tricks of the trade and how to use it, otherwise, you'll end up paying a lot of money irrespective of the cloud provider, so at least for Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio pricing versus AWS, I would rate it three out of five, with one being the most expensive, and five being the cheapest. It could be cheaper, but you also have to be careful when choosing the plans, for example, consider the architecture and a lot of other factors before choosing your plan, if you don't want to end up paying more. If your cloud provider has an optimizer that seems to be available in every provider, that would keep alerting you in terms of resources not being used as much, then that would help you with budgeting."
  • "My team didn't deal with the licensing for Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio, so I'm unable to comment on pricing, but the money that was spent on the tool was worth it."
