We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Great impact on project management and team collaboration.""Cloud-based management is valuable and software deployment is positive.""There are all sorts of really good tools for use on the information security side that allow us to make sure that our people are doing business and doing business right.""Many of the features in Office 365 are good, but I think Excel is a very good tool.""The phone VoIP product provides genuine a unified communication solution.""I like that it is cloud-based, wherefrom any computer I can access my documents and continue working.""The most valuable feature is Microsoft Exchange.""The solution is quite intuitive and easy to use."

"SharePoint is easy to collaborate with.""The most valuable feature of SharePoint is its ease of use.""Our staff found it simpler, as they did not have to work within a classification system.""The access control is definitely a good feature. We also appreciate the improvements they've made to the online applications, where multiple users can work on the same documents simultaneously. Everything syncs automatically.""The workflow feature is valuable because it enables us to cascade responsibilities.""SharePoint has made things easier with the increased functionality for building the portals, microsites, and total integration with Microsoft categories.""The ability to have version control and co-editing is vital to our workflows.""Information is much more readily available."

Cons
"Sometimes the synchronization between the desktop and online is a little bit slow.""I would like to see better integration with Teams, and better usability with SharePoint.""There are several additional features we would like to see, such as advanced features of SAN protection in Office 365. The main thing is the SAN protection; we would like to see a lot of advanced features added because we had a lot of spam attacks.""Integration with other platforms can be improved.""Improvements can be made to the products generic offering. It's not customized for health care. It doesn't understand the meaning of health care related concepts. Providing a greater degree of industry specificity would make the tool much more unique and valuable.""Normally, they have a way to work with specific developments, and I think they shouldn't allow the partners to make some changes they have made. When I have a client with a lot of changes, we have a problem with that because there aren't rules to develop inside the ERP, so you can do anything.""Performance-wise, Office 365 needs a lot of bandwidth. The problem is, the solution requires very high bandwidth and internet usage. Meaning, the desktop application consumes a lot of internet data. Sometimes, when the connection is slow, it won't work and it won't load. This is an area for improvement for Office 365.""There are some complexities to the initial setup if you use some of the more advanced features."

More Office 365 Cons →

"SharePoint designer workflows can be buggy sometimes without any apparent reason.""You still need a bit of expertise to add branding.""The product does not perform 100% when used outside of a Microsoft based browser, Chrome, Firefox, etc.""It should have more user-friendly customization, as it still requires developers to get engaged and build sites.""The initial setup was very complex.""It is too heavy. MS should not have paid foreign coders dollars per each row of code. They wasted the stability and reliability in the end.""The integration with Outlook could be improved.""The workflow engine cannot support the business needs."

At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a round-up of a couple of the more well known platforms and compare their products to Drupal. In this roundup we will be comparing Jive, Sharepoint and Drupal Commons. Drupal Commons is a popular distribution created by Acquia to compete with some of these other proprietary platforms. There are many other options out there, commercial and otherwise, to compare with Drupal but I want to focus on Jive and Sharepoint for a couple of reasons. I chose Jive because it is one of the leading competitors in this space in respect to market share. Next, I chose Sharepoint because I have some history with Sharepoint. This experience dates back to when I built www.adhe.edu with Sharepoint 2007 a few years ago. I subsequently wrote this blog entry about my experience shortly after joining Mediacurrent. This roundup will also act as a refresher for those who read my original “Drupal vs. Sharepoint” blog. Yammer, which was recently bought by Microsoft and is the tool we currently use for office communication will also get some mentions throughout this article. As I went through and tested each of these tools I used three main criteria in my evaluation Cost Ability to Customize Overall features… Read more →
