An API management and predictive analytics software that lets you personalize products
Pros and Cons
  • "I simply like how you can personalize your products and put them into product categories. That's what I like the most."
  • "The analytical aspect of it could be better. I think it is fair if Apigee lets you configure some of the metrics of the key details you want to monitor in terms of analytics."

What is our primary use case?

I use Apigee for healthcare management.

What is most valuable?

I simply like how you can personalize your products and put them into product categories. That's what I like the most.

What needs improvement?

The analytical aspect of it could be better. I think it is fair if Apigee lets you configure some of the metrics of the key details you want to monitor in terms of analytics.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Apigee for about two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Apigee is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Apigee is a cloud solution, and it's scalable. I have about two departments using it predominantly to share staff. Because of how the company was structured, we had one for original regulations and one for Africa. The regulations in some of the African countries are not the same.

How are customer service and support?

I'm satisfied with customer service. On a scale of one to five, I'll give them a five.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before Apigee, I used G Data Software, IBM, and more.

How was the initial setup?

Apigee is in the cloud, so it's more like software-as-a-service.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You do not necessarily pay for the license. The cloud solution is based more on transactions. So, you pay for it either way.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to potential users.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Apigee a nine.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A very stable platform with automated installation and useful proxy, security, and traffic control features
Pros and Cons
  • "We have been using Apigee mostly for proxy FGIs. We also use its security features as well as traffic control features."
  • "In terms of the functionalities of a typical API gateway, Apigee is actually doing its job, but when it involves integration with backend applications, which some gateways have, I don't believe it has this functionality. You have to do Java or do some other low-level coding before you are able to do the integration. Apigee has a lot of components, which means that management will be a bit difficult. It probably has ten different components, and all of these components leverage open-source utilities, such as NGINX. When those open-source vendors upgrade their utility, Apigee usually lags behind because they need to do a lot of tests and any required development in their own platform. They need to do rigorous testing to make sure that nothing breaks. Because of that, it takes them a while to upgrade whatever components have been upgraded by the open-source vendor that owns the utility. We've been chasing them for a particular upgrade for well over a year and a half, and they have not done that upgrade. It is creating a security risk for us as an enterprise, but that upgrade has not been done, even though the open-source vendor, the owner of the utility, has upgraded it a long time ago."

What is our primary use case?

I'm a developer as well as an architect. We have internal clients as well as external clients. We have other teams within the enterprise that use this platform. They do development, and sometimes, we do development for them. Then we host these solutions in the same infrastructure. We also have external clients who want to integrate their applications with us.

How has it helped my organization?

We've been having point-to-point connections with external vendors. It has actually helped us to be able to integrate our internal applications with external vendors. It is more like a single point of entry into the enterprise. Initially, we used to have the vendor directly interact with the application owners, but now, we come in between as an integration partner for external vendors. All integration has to go through us, which makes management as well as security simpler.

What is most valuable?

We have been using Apigee mostly for proxy FGIs. We also use its security features as well as traffic control features.

What needs improvement?

In terms of the functionalities of a typical API gateway, Apigee is actually doing its job, but when it involves integration with backend applications, which some gateways have, I don't believe it has this functionality.

It is creating a security risk for us as an enterprise, but that upgrade has not been done, even though the open-source vendor, the owner of the utility, has upgraded it a long time ago.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using this solution for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It has been a very stable platform. We've not really had any production issues. We've not had any issues where the production environment went down, and we were not able to use it at all.

How are customer service and technical support?

We've not really had so many issues. Whenever we had issues, sometimes, they responded quickly, and sometimes, it took them a while to get back to us, but it has not really affected the business because we usually have development issues or issues that don't cause an outage.

How was the initial setup?

It is not straightforward. It has multiple components, so setting it up is not straightforward, but the good thing about this is that they have automated a lot of the setup. It comes as an appliance or in RPM packages that you can install at specific locations in the operating system. So, its installation is easy because it has been automated.

What other advice do I have?

Because of the multiple components it has, if you are trying to implement this in your environment, you need people who are experienced in most of these open-source utilities, such as NGINX, Drupal, OpenAL, etc. You would require someone knowledgeable in those utilities to be able to support the environment.

I would rate Apigee an eight out of ten.

Deployment made simple, diversified licenses for your business in mind, with high scalability
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the API gateway."
  • "I have heard there maybe be some security issues that need to be addressed. If this is the situation I would encourage taking a look at the security matters."

What is our primary use case?

We want to sell API products and if you want to market the API product that you are building, then definitely you can go for the Apigee or any API product, but if you are in Google Cloud, definitely you can go for Apigee because only Apigee offers current cloud.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the API gateway.

What needs improvement?

I have heard there maybe be some security issues that need to be addressed. If this is the situation I would encourage taking a look at the security matters.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Apigee for the past two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There is good stability with Apigee

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Great functionality and excellent technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "A very functional solution."
  • "The cost of the solution is quite high."

What is our primary use case?

My current job is to compare all the different API gateways and to create a report for management. We use this tool primarily to secure our API. We have a set of API from our four businesses and we're trying to apply these APIs to multiple applications. For example, third parties can leverage our APIs built to their own solutions and applications and we build applications on top of these APIs. I make the system available like a mobile app. Primarily the API management for the entire ecosystem of AP that we are building and the DGPS are providing, have varied capabilities across the organization. Apigee also acts as a proxy, everything is done within that.

We also leverage the developer portal of Apigee as a main feature, which can be given to outside customers by third parties to build their own applications around our API. One of the standout features of Apigee is the different PolyPhaser functions that we use. For example, we use throttling, encryption/decryption and we also use external AP integration with PV.2 I'm a senior architect and big data engineer and we are customers of Apigee.

What is most valuable?

I like the functionality of this solution.

What needs improvement?

The cost of this solution could be improved and it would be better if it were on private cloud.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

I'm not directly involved in the technical support aspect, but I've heard that the technical team is excellent. They provide support from the beginning until you completely run all your setups.

How was the initial setup?

This solution is much easier to set up compared to any of the other API gateway solutions. There is extensive documentation available.

What other advice do I have?

I would go with Apigee if you have the money. It will give you enough APIs for management. If you're looking simply for one functionality then I wouldn't recommend Apigee.

I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.

Scalable solution with good work efficiency
Pros and Cons
  • "Its customer service is good."
  • "They should improve the monitoring tools for on-premises environments."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution as a platform to integrate different APIs and provide authentication, authorization, and performance security services.

What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable feature is its ability to integrate APIs for various industrial sectors, including telecom, banks, and multinational companies.

What needs improvement?

They should improve the solution's monitoring tools for on-premises environments. Also, they should make all the essential features available for the private cloud.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for more than five years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is highly scalable. I rate its scalability as a ten.

How was the initial setup?

I rate the solution's initial setup process as a seven.

What other advice do I have?

The solution is advanced. It works efficiently compared to other solutions, such as MuleSoft. I highly recommend it out of all the integration platforms. I rate it as an eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

User-friendly with ability to convert from language to language; good security features
Pros and Cons
  • "The ability to convert from language to language using a single tool."
  • "Apigee lacks market presence."

What is our primary use case?

We are resellers of Apigee and also use it internally. The most common use case is monetization for the APIs. I'm the sales manager and we are resellers of Apigee.

What is most valuable?

The ability to convert from language to language using the same tool without needing different developer teams to deploy is a valuable feature. It doesn't require a lot of skill to run Apigee and the security features are good. This is a powerful tool for API management.

What needs improvement?

The only disadvantage with Apigee is that they lack market presence. I think they may have limited resources. IBM's strategy is stronger on the marketing level.

I believe they're working on adding some integration features that are currently lacking.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable even in very complicated environments.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and it's great for enterprise companies.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good. Google team has many teams can support it. And there is a lot of partners ecosystem who understand and implement and support strategy as well.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously worked with IBM Connect but I prefer Apigee. It provides all the features and requirements for AI management.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward and can be done by anyone.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing cost is very reasonable and it gives you unlimited transactions.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend testing this solution for a month or so. It's easy to implement and easy to use. I rate the solution nine out of 10 - the one point reduction is because of the marketing strategy.

Top of the recommended reviews, highly experienced reviewer, with excellent technical support on known issues
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is monetization."
  • "I would like to see SOAP services and socket-based connectivity developed."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is for security but also the mediation that goes with it.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is monetization.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see SOAP services and socket-based connectivity developed. Apigee is known for exposing the REST API but not the SOAP API. Our clients are requesting these two features and we do have a workaround we use, but an upgrade in these two areas would be great. I would like to see more integration for example Enterprise Service Bus and this will help Apigee gain more popularity.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Apigee for the past six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Apigee is a stable product. We have had existing customers for the past four or five years now.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is alright but I have mixed criticism. Sometimes you get answers very quickly and on time, but in some scenarios when there is a product issue it takes time. If there is anything that is not implemented and they need some time to implement it, then it takes them months. If the error is something that is a known issue they reply back quickly.

How was the initial setup?

Apigee is more straightforward and flexible, with implementation and designing. Other products currently on the market are more complex overall to sustain. The time it took us to set up was around two to three months.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

There is one main reason we went with Apigee and that is the importance of the Gartner and Forester ratings. Apigee is on top of all the Gartner and Forrester ratings. The other reason is because of the smooth operational perspective.

What other advice do I have?

If customers are trying to do long-term planning, and want to apply monetization on their APIs, then Apigee will be the best in this situation. I would rate Apigee a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
