Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"While we are doing indexing, we tag the document type. It's programmed inside of Datacap to automatically detect the document based on a given template. It auto-indexes that document, which means that it automatically tags the correct document type to the scanned document.""Datacap is good at processing unstructured data. You can build up some nice data flows, and it is simple to configure. The tool adopts a low-code approach, but you can do a lot of coding if you want to customize and automate your flows. Datacap also has the flexibility to integrate.""The solution automates manual data entry.""The installation of the solution is very simple.""It's resiliency. There are multiple ways of identifying what you are looking for. There are multiple export formats.""It helps companies figure out how to use advanced imaging techniques, processes, best practices, and other tools.""I work for an insurance company, and we use Datacap for document processing.""It is the best solution for scanning purposes."

"The ability to script information from websites is most valuable. It also seems to be fairly robust and reasonably easy to manage on a server-based deployment. We have a number of robots operating on the central server.""The drag and drop functionality is quite good.""The best part of Kofax is that they have a whole concept. It's one product, but also has extra elements that can be integrated.""Provides valuable tools working in integration with RPA tools.""The flexibility to use already-developed components is really good. You can use it for Excel-related operations and other things.""The product saves time and resources.""The most valuable feature of Kofax RPA is the simplicity of automating tasks.""Kofax RPA's best feature is its high success percentage in picking up information from documents, especially where the DPI is really low."

Cons
"They have to stop focusing on new development and stabilize the latest release. It is not stable.""I've faced some bugs or issues. They should do deeper testing of the product before releasing it because some of the bugs that I found were a bit simple. I understand that it is a massive product, and some of the functionalities can get overlooked.""Currently, when you are entering invoices, you have to enter multiple rows. In Captiva the multiple rows will be dynamically added. This would be a beneficial feature for IBM to add.""Its weaknesses are primarily tied to the lack of available resources and expertise in the market to effectively support and provide solutions and services to each customer for seamless implementation.""We have page requirements where some values must be copied on each page. For example, say I need to scan a bunch of documents, and the name will be a field on every page. We don't have a default functionality in Datacap to copy the field value on the first page to all the pages. That feature would make the documents easy to prepare.""Reporting and analytics seem to often be something of an afterthought. With Datacap, they've started building out some dashboards, but one thing we hear from our clients a lot is, "Well, gee, we really love reports. What Datacap has is not really helpful. We'd like something better. We'd like more dashboards." That's one area where we've seen some feedback that the product could do better.""The IBM Datacap site actually is on the newer inside. They will give it as a plugin only.""Third-party integration could be improved; it's very slow."

More IBM Datacap Cons →

"Kofax RPA's UI could be more user-friendly.""We are on version 10.6, and the current version seems to be 11. Kofax is cycling the capabilities of the product very quickly. One of the difficulties has been to actually keep up with the capabilities as they've evolved. On the one hand, it is good that the product is getting better, but on the other hand, it is difficult to implement the best way with a product that is evolving constantly.""Its documentation is not widely available on the web. They should work on the availability of its documentation. In Automation Anywhere, there is a feature called Discovery Bot that automatically records the process steps and suggests a possible bot. I am not sure if such a feature is available in Kofax. If it is not available, it will be very good to have this feature. ""The product has some constraints and performance issues.""This product has room for improvement in support of aviation. The interface could be improved in the next release.""The product needs more AI capabilities.""It needs a free training portal for anybody on the internet to use so that they can get an idea of what the possibilities are.""The scalability has room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing needs to stay competitive."
  • "You save a lot of time and money, but the benefit is you have people who are able to run the systems, check to see if there are any errors at all, and there are a lot less errors than a human system."
  • "Pricing depends on how much we use it. We pay per bulk quantity. We pay as you go. Therefore, it sort of depends on our usage of it."
  • "We were using the User Value Unit licensing, which means we get charged per active user of the system, and if I'm not mistaken, we also had it for the rule runner service. They had a PVU license model, which is a processor value unit. For each process that we have in our system, we pay a certain amount of money. We found the pricing to be quite steep. It was really an expensive solution in comparison to Kofax, which had a different licensing model and was actually cheaper overall because they charge per page and not per user and per process."
  • "If you want IBM Datacap on cloud, which is a service run by IBM, the price can be quite expensive, but if you want to just purchase the licenses and own those yourself, then the price is very competitive."
  • "It varies, and it depends on the client's requirements and negotiations. Nowadays, Datacap is also included in the IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation."
  • "In Egypt, we have exchange rates that change year to year, and currently, we're facing an increase in the exchange rate between our Egyptian pound and the dollar. Since we have been using IBM DataCap two years ago we had a good price, it was not expensive. However, I cannot say now if it is expensive or not because of the exchange rate. Additionally, I don't have the data of other competitors and I don't know the prices."
  • "IBM could offer more competitive pricing. This would allow them to attain more users. Some of our clients are considering moving to a different solution called Encapture which is similar but offers more competitive pricing."

  • "The normal price for an on-premises license is €50,000. That's the price for one robot license. You can have more than one robot license but only one can be run at any one time. I believe the cost of adding a second robot is around €14,000."
  • "Price is not a problem, because they are a competitor and we have a special rate."
  • "I don't have complete insight at this point in time, but I would guess that Kofax is a lot less expensive than Automation Anywhere. I would expect its license to be on a yearly basis."
  • "Its pricing is reasonable given the product capabilities. Kofax has a wide range of products, and it can sometimes be confusing to understand which capabilities come with which product set. One of the key facets that we've been looking into recently is cognitive document recognition that was a core pile of some of their other technologies such as Kofax transformation modules (KTM)."
  • "Kofax's prices are pretty reasonable."
  • "There is a standard license needed to use Kofax RPA and the price is reasonable."
  • "Kofax RPA is moderately priced but expensive in comparison to UiPath and Power Automate."
  • "I give the price of the solution a six out of ten."
