We like the use of the tasks.
The documentation is good.
The implementation process could be simplified to make it quicker.
I was certified with NetBackup in 2008. There was a bit of a break in using backup solutions but I recently started using it again for our customer who is using it. I have approximately two years of experience.
We are working with NetBackup 9.1.
Veritas NetBackup is stable. We have not experienced any bugs or glitches with this solution.
At this moment, we are satisfied with it.
The scalability is impressive. Our clients are mostly enterprise businesses.
At this time, we have no plans to increase our usage or move to another solution. We recently implemented this product and we are satisfied with the tasks it performs.
If we have any issues, we contact technical support in Russia. They provide us with a resolution.
We are very satisfied with the technical support.
The initial setup is not complex. We implement from the Veritas site and we use the knowledge base.
It can take several months to implement this solution. We had to prepare the architecture, the guides, and documentation for several data centers. It was not a fast implementation.
Our license is capacity-based.
I would rate Veritas NetBackup a nine out of ten.
Our primary use case for NetBackup is to protect all the servers and applications that we have in our company.
Veritas released a new feature in version 8 of NetBackup called VRP. It's kind of like replication management from VMware.
The great thing about this feature is that Veritas gave it to us for free.
Sometimes we have problems with the support team. They always end up solving and fixing everything, but sometimes they are slow to respond. Maybe they can increase the number of personnel they have for the Spanish language.
I also think they could improve the reporting. They use a web-based software application OpsCenter for the reporting and I see that they haven't made any changes in years.
My company has been using this solution for eight years.
This solution is stable.
Veritas NetBackup is very scalable.
I personally have a lot of experience with this product, but someone without a whole lot of knowledge about it would have to partner up with a vendor. I would say overall deployment is at a medium level of difficulty.
It takes about a week to deploy the solution. This is a backend solution, a master server. Sometimes, it can be difficult to set up the window changes, configure the Oracle database, etc.
Restores individual emails simply for users when requested.
Catalog is user-friendly, and finds all important information about any media needed for a restore request.
The ability to use different disk appliance brands as Pure Disk (not OST), such as EMC Data Domain .
No, it is so stable.
No, it scales efficiently.
8 out of 10.
EMC Networker (Legato).
Setup of FC (Fiber) backup is complex.
It is suitable for an enterprise solution.
IBM Tivoli, EMC Data Networker (Legato).
Backup using Fiber Optical connections.
Use Veritas Disk Appliance for deduplication and other valuable benefits.
I primarily use the solution to back up vital aspects of our workload.
The backup aspect of the solution is the most valuable aspect of the solution.
The product is quite flexible.
The product is stable and reliable.
We would like the Java console to be updated. They need to redo the console so that it is no longer on Java. It's outdated.
I've been using the solution for three years. I've used it for a while.
I have found the solution to be stable for the most part. It's not buggy. I haven't dealt with glitches. it doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable so far.
I haven't really used technical support. I wouldn't be able to effectively comment on how their services are or if they are helpful if a client has an issue.
I did not handle the initial setup. Therefore, I cannot speak to how easy or difficult the setup process is, or how long the deployment takes
We're a Veritas partner.
I use two versions of the solution: 8.3.0.1 and 9.1. We use it both on-premises and on the cloud.
I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten. I've been pretty satisfied with it overall.
Our primary use case is to backup the databases for our enterprise clients.
It is a very good backup solution that we provide to the majority of our clients as a service.
It is very easy to perform a backup, and then verify whether it has been properly completed or not.
Add endpoint backup capability for a particular appliance. Currently it is server level only.
We use this product daily, and my impression of the stability is very good.
It is scalable. Our clients include fifty to sixty IT managers that are responsible for backing up their company's data. We plan to increase this number as we add new clients.
I have not contacted the product's technical support. We have our own lab set up for testing the product.
I use a second solution, Commvault, in cases where there is no domain. I did not, and still do not use another solution for our primary use case.
The setup, installation, and configuration is not complex. Once the product is configured, it is very easy to use.
For this solution, we handle the system integration for our clients. It takes approximately ten to fifteen days to deploy the backup solution.
I think that the pricing and licensing for this solution is good. It is affordable.
I have not had any issues or problems when using this solution. It has been working perfectly for our primary use case.
I would rate this solution eight out of ten.
Managed to control all backups centrally across the environment and ensure correct and multiple retention periods were in place based on the business requirement.
Management interface was simple to use once understood.
Updates were not always consistent.
Early releases did seem to cause issues. Once a stable version was found then we generally stayed with it for an extended period, as it just worked.
Very scalable. Started with 20 machines, within two years, scaled to over 250 and management was just as easy.
Customer Service:
Good. Logging of tickets was very difficult and complicated but once logged, very helpful.
Technical Support:
Very good. All issues were resolved in a timely manner.
Yes, switch was prompted by IT Manager; due diligence report from external company concluded existing product was not suitable for needs.
Complex, as was unsure how the product worked at the beginning. But after several months of using, became very simple to use as everything is within the single agent install and understood what was required.
Initial implementation was via a vendor team. Upgrades were in-house, as had relevant experience.
Vendor did seem to know what they were doing on implementation but usage of the product seemed limited.
Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models. But you get for what you pay for.
No.
Very expensive product, learning curve is very high but once understood and working correctly, is a fantastic product.
It offers everything I need from a backup system. I am completely sure that all my data is backed up.
We now have a reliable backup system. Also, it provides us with great integration possibilities for different products, e.g. Informix, Oracle, MySQL, VMware, Linux, Unix, and Windows. It also helps with deduplication and the backing up of flash systems.
Technical support needs to improve, especially with the appliances.
It's the best and most reliable backup system I've used.
We are a solution reseller and Veritas Netbackup is one of the products that we provide to our customers. It is used for implementing a backup repository to the cloud.
This product is flexible enough to allow for backing up data from physical machines, as well as from your cloud environment.
There is support for a lot of applications.
It would be useful if they could maintain the information that is in the cloud.
When the customer is using SaaS applications like Office 365, the integration falls short and needs to be improved.
The price could be reduced.
We have been selling Veritas NetBackup for the past 14 years.
Stability-wise NetBackup is a good solution.
This is a scalable product. NetBackup is for larger organizations.
Not being an end-user, I have not had experience with technical support.
I also have experience with Veritas Backup Exec, which has the same use case. It is also a good product but NetBackup supports more applications and it is more of an enterprise-level solution than Backup Exec. I would say that NetBackup is for larger customers, whereas Backup Exec is for everyone.
I am familiar with the installation and it is simple.
A better price would make this product more competitive.
In summary, this is a good product and I can recommend it.
I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.
Agree! Concerning the technical support, I think there have been some improvements since I deployed my first appliance.
