Real-time collaboration and simultaneous document editing increases team productivity
Pros and Cons
  • "Its intuitive design makes it easy to use and understand, hence we do not have a need to spend much on educating our teams."
  • "The only area of concern that I have is with the inability to preview received documents without having to download them first."

What is our primary use case?

I mainly use Slack as a collaborative chat, video and audio tool. I am able to set up a Slack room for different purposes and have all major stakeholders collaborate in real time. I enjoy the functionality on Slack that enables my team members to edit and collaborate on documents simultaneously.

How has it helped my organization?

Slack has helped to increase the productivity of my teams and organization. We have been able to cut down on subscription costs, reduce client delivery time, troubleshoot more effectively, and achieve positive results more easily. Its intuitive design makes it easy to use and understand, hence we do not have a need to spend much on educating our teams.

What is most valuable?

Chat, video, and call functionality has been awesome. The ease of setting up and integrating with other apps is seamless. Data consumption by the app is also at its barest minimum, helping to cut costs on the amount of data required to explore calls, video, or chat functionalities within the app.

What needs improvement?

I think the app is good enough, as I don't have any reason to comment negatively on it. The only area of concern that I have is with the inability to preview received documents without having to download them first. This could offer some sense of security and prevent downloading corrupted files or viruses.A "preview attachment/document" would suffice as an improvement, this will allow users decide if the need to download an attachment or not

For how long have I used the solution?

More than two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

With respect to the stability, the app functions well, without glitches.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a very scalable solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support for this solution has been very helpful.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not use another solution prior to this one.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy and straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

The vendor handled our implementation and did a professional job.

What was our ROI?

Our ROI is approximately 40%.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated both Microsoft Teams and Skype.

What other advice do I have?

This is a great app that has awesome functionality. A try will definitely be worth it.

What is our primary use case?

I use Slack for team collaboration.

What is most valuable?

Tasks and team huddles are the most valuable features of Slack.

What needs improvement?

When I share any file with my colleagues, that file remains in Slack storage even after I delete the message. I need to manually delete them one by one. It would be better if Slack had a 'select all' option to delete all the files.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Slack for four years.

Slack is a stable solution.

I rate Slack ten out of ten for stability.

A collaboration tool where you can share files and to do a one-on-one or a group conversation
Pros and Cons
  • "Slack is a collaboration tool where you can create specific topic-related channels and manage different threads on different talks so people can interact and maintain a chat."
  • "When scaled on a large scale, the solution's cost becomes a matter of concern for organizations."

What is most valuable?

Slack is a collaboration tool where you can create specific topic-related channels and manage different threads on different talks so people can interact and maintain a chat. You can use the solution to share files and to do a one-on-one or a group conversation. It's a multilateral functional collaboration platform.

What needs improvement?

Slack is difficult to scale. When scaled on a large scale, the solution's cost becomes a matter of concern for organizations. It is a large project to migrate from Slack to Microsoft Teams or any other platform.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Slack is a pretty stable solution. I rate Slack an eight or nine out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Slack is a scalable solution, but not every organization can afford to maintain it. I rate Slack an eight out of ten for scalability.

How was the initial setup?

The solution’s initial setup is complex.

What other advice do I have?

It's up to the organization whether it wants to use Slack or not. Some people like the solution, while others don't.

Overall, I rate Slack eight out of ten.

A good solution for communication and file sharing, but it should add a feature to schedule meetings
Pros and Cons
  • "The huddle feature that allows you to get on a call with a colleague is one of the best features of Slack."
  • "Slack should add a feature to schedule meetings."

What is our primary use case?

We use Slack for communication, file sharing, meetings, text messages, etc. Slack has been so helpful for us.

How has it helped my organization?

Slack has made communication much easier in our company. I can text someone in the company or send a message. I can also have an audio call with a couple of team members on the go without needing to start setting up calls on Zoom or Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. I can have that voice or video call right away on Slack.

What is most valuable?

The huddle feature that allows you to get on a call with a colleague is one of the best features of Slack. You can call someone on the go with the huddle feature and save the time of having to set up Zoom calls or Google Meet.

What needs improvement?

Slack should add a feature to schedule meetings. Users should get notifications or prompts regarding the meeting time so they can attend that meeting.

Sometimes, when Slack is down, there is a delay in messages being delivered. Such delays also need to be improved in Slack.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Slack for the past five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Slack a six out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate Slack a seven out of ten for scalability.

How was the initial setup?

Slack’s initial setup was not difficult.

What other advice do I have?

I use the latest version of Slack. Slack is deployed on-cloud in our organization.

I highly recommend Slack for teams that want to communicate and collaborate. Slack can integrate with other apps like Google Calendar and Loom for voice and video recording. I recommend Slack for teams that want to scale and collaborate.

Overall, I rate Slack a seven out of ten.

A scalable and easy-to-deploy solution that enables seamless communication within the organization
Pros and Cons
  • "The product makes communication seamless."
  • "The UI could be a little bit better."

How has it helped my organization?

The product makes communication seamless. There are around 200 employees in my organization. If the HR personnel want to reach us, they use the channels to put up messages, posters, and banners for workplace events or blood donation drives. They use the channels whenever they want to spread information about anything.

What is most valuable?

Slack is a really good solution. We can see whether our colleagues are available or away. If we need to share any information within our team, we can create a channel and share the information. We can share technical and non-technical information like, HR information using the product. Information sharing is the feature I like the most. The product allows us to update our status to communicate whether we are away or out for lunch. We can also make notes to ourselves using the solution. It functions quite well.

What needs improvement?

The UI could be a little bit better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution consistently for the last year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable. Many employees in the organization are happy to use the product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. As more and more people join the organization, they are able to use the tool.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy. The solution is deployed on the cloud.

What other advice do I have?

I work from home. I do not use the on-premises product. If people use it consistently, they will understand how to use it and communicate with their teams properly. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Easy to use with an intuitive interface and the screen sharing works well
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the screen sharing, which works well."
  • "I would like the text in chat to be more customizable."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Slack for web conferencing. It is primarily for external communication with one of our suppliers.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the screen sharing, which works well.

This solution is freely available to almost everyone.

The tracking, integration tool, and voice calls are all good.

The user interface is intuitive for me.

What needs improvement?

There should be better integration between Slack and Office 365.

It should be easier to work collaboratively on files.

I would like the text in chat to be more customizable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Slack for a couple of months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have not experienced any problems with stability. We use it maybe once a week to contact one of our suppliers.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As a user, I have not had problems with scalability. I am part of a small group that makes use of slack but that doesn't mean that it isn't widely used in the company.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have not been in contact with technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are using multiple web conferencing tools including Mircosoft Teams, Skype, and Slack.

I would say that the user interface in Slack is more intuitive than in Teams. One advantage to teams is that it is fully integrated into Office 365. I would say that collaborative working on files is better in teams. In our situation, the focus of Teams is internal, rather than with external partners.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, this is a good product and I can recommend it. It's easy to use and so far, it has been reliable.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud
