Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Safe attachments, safe links, policies, and the ability to protect from zero-day threats are the most valuable features.""Since we have started using the solution, there have been fewer compromises.""The product is not resource-intensive.""Defender enables us to secure all 365-related activity from a single place. It gives us visibility into everything happening in Outlook, protecting us against phishing and other email-based threats. Defender helps us detect any suspicious behaviors.""I like its investigation capabilities, as that is what is most important to me. It is fairly simple with a user-friendly interface.""Microsoft Defender for Office 365's most valuable features are safe attachments and safe links.""It also gives the vulnerability status according to the versions you have selected. Let's say you have Google Chrome. It mentions the versions it has, and it updates. Within two hours of an update, it is reflected in the dashboard. That's really nice to have.""The good part is that you don't have to configure it, which is very convenient."

"When we don't understand some functionalities, the customer support staff responds fast to our calls and provides immediate action.""Email encryption enhances end to end security of any data before it passes through the networking system.""Email Attachment Protection detects any insecure files and quickly blocks them to prevent the spread of viruses to other secure documents.""Easy to use for non-technical users.""The integration with all our existing and new applications is great.""The program has reduced the dangers related to phishing, malware, ransomware, and other vulnerabilities.""I like Avanan's SmartDLP module. It's seamless, and the administrative overhead is low. We aren't a very sophisticated operation. We just want to reduce our exposure, so we find ThreatCloud helpful. Avanan's acquisition by Check Point was beneficial for them.""It can detect corrupted files and filters out documents with viruses."

"The digest and the quarantine are the most valuable features. I can go into the quarantine and see everything that was quarantined. On an individual basis, you can easily whitelist an email or address coming in, if needed.""It filters some of the spam.""SpamTitan has made it easier to manage spam. When other solutions I've used quarantined something, an admin had to manually find and release it. With SpamTitan, the end-user can monitor it themselves and release their own quarantined items. It's faster and less work.""The overall intuitiveness is really good. We have been able to run reports, set up quarantine emails, and integrate with our Exchange server. That has all been extremely straightforward.""The encryption feature seems to be the most useful. We didn't have a convenient option for it previously, and having the capability to encrypt from within the message nearly seamlessly is a benefit to us.""The most valuable feature is the Link Lock, which prevents our users from clicking on links that haven't been verified.""They have something called Pattern Filtering, which has been a godsend... For example, if I don't want any email to ever come through that has the term "hot dog" in it, whether it be in the subject, the title, or anywhere else, I can immediately block such emails, company-wide. That has saved me so much time.""It is a very easy product to use. There is one interface that services all our clients' health. Once learning the interface, we don't have to learn another one for each client. It is the same interface, which is valuable. Therefore, we find the single interface the most valuable since I have a very small team. I don't have one or two people dedicated to just SpamTitan. We all need to learn the interface and be fluent in it. So, having a unified single interface is a big deal for us. I don't have to teach my people five different interfaces in order to be managing a product. They use one interface for all our clients. It is a single pane of glass, which is huge for us."

Cons
"Configuration requires going to a lot of places rather than just accessing one tab.""The only thing they should improve is the licensing model. They should stop changing it. A year ago, the five features I mentioned were included in one product. Now, three of them are bundled into one product, and you have to pay extra for the other two. I don't mind paying extra, but I don't want them to change it every year or every six months. I need to know what I'm looking at and not worry about it next year.""Microsoft sometimes has downtime, and we'll get several incidents coming in back to back. We have a huge backlog of notifications, many of which may be false positives. However, there might be serious alerts, so we can't risk dismissing all of them at once.""You should be able to deploy Defender for every subscription without the need to add servers.""The product must provide better malware detection.""There needs to be an improvement in integrating the product to work across multiple operating systems, and to have better support for non-Microsoft file types.""This product's effectiveness could be improved, in terms of detecting unwanted spam or even malware between the emails, compared to other products.""The visibility for the weaknesses in the system and unauthorized access can be improved."

More Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Cons →

"It should reduce the amount of time needed for thorough scanning.""The cost can be reviewed to enable SMEs to acquire it and enjoy great security features.""When sending bulky emails, the system slows down and takes a long time before it responds effectively to our requests.""The overall user interface is not attractive. It needs some improvement.""Avanan doesn't cover certain tool segments.""The user experience must be improved.""Familiarization with performance for new teams may take a long time.""In Avanan, the email channel is one of the channels where data leakage happens, and they need to consider it from a DLP perspective."

More Avanan Cons →

"They could improve on the color of the interface.""The quarantine email message that users get on a scheduled basis is something users generally don't pay attention to, like every other communication they get from IT. The formatting of the quarantined email report that goes to the users on a regular basis is a little confusing for them. That could be improved.""The admin user interface is very granular. Anyone who is in IT can relate to the statement: "With anything granular, there is going to be a little bit of complexity." It can be difficult, on a layer-by-layer basis, to wrap your head around it. Because the administration interface is so granular, some of the categories and some of the settings end up in really odd places. It's hard to figure out where a certain setting is sometimes.""They can increase some of the reporting around user logins. In order for us to make that determination, we have to pull down reports. They could make it a bit easier.""Emails from companies we work with often get flagged, and I have to go in and release them. For example, I made a hotel reservation today from Marriott that got blocked. I'm sure hotels spam people, but I wish there was a way to know that the email was to confirm my reservation and for it to allow that through.""They need to keep up with the latest technology and add new features as they arise, e.g., artificial intelligence, new and improved updated lists, or new ways of tracking spam. They need to just keep up so the product is effective. Because, if all of a sudden viruses or spam starts getting through, then we might have to look at something else. However, so far, it has kept up and done a great job. So, we are happy.""The SpamTitan user interface is not amazing, but I don't mind it. I know they are releasing a new one soon. I have seen it and it looks a lot better. That has been an area that needs improvement.""There was a situation in which I needed to change the cloud server. From SpamTitan, I had to specify which server we were on for the integration into Office 365 and I actually only found that out because there was a problem. It would have been better if they had advised us of that first."

  • "From the pricing point of view, like any other product in the market, there is scope for negotiation."
  • "Defender is a little bit more expensive as compared to others. We are in the manufacturing environment. So, we don't have a high budget for all of our endpoint devices. Its cost is a major concern for us."
  • "For licensing, it's usually a yearly package for customers who are subscribed to Office 365, but they can also pay on a monthly basis."
  • "Microsoft Defender for Office 365 is an add-on to the Office license. Many customers are purchasing this solution."
  • "Microsoft Defender for Office 365 comes with Microsoft Windows. It is free with the operating system."

  • "Good pricing arrangement as an SaaS offering."
  • "Having the flexibility and modeling to do the pricing that best fits the needs of the organization is incredibly ideal. That is what Avanan does. • "The pricing of Avanan is reasonable."
  • "The product is not the cheapest in the market."

  • "We are on a per-user or per-mailbox monthly subscription. We are happy with the price of the solution. When comparing it to other solutions it is much cheaper."

  • "Compared to all of the others, including the solution we used previously, SpamTitan is cheaper."
  • "The price is good by today's standards. You actually get what you pay for."
  • "The price was great compared to other solutions that we looked at the time."
  • "Our pricing has pretty much stayed somewhat the same. Sure, there has been an increase or two that keeps up with inflation, but that is everybody. When we switched from AppRiver to SpamTitan, we saved about 20%. That is $1,000 to $2,000 a month. We went to SpamTitan and WebTitan. It was $1,000 savings a month for SpamTitan and another $1,500 a month savings for WebTitan."
  • "It is very good. We actually ended up saving money from our previous solution."

    Reviews from Real Users

The solution saves employees' time. Many of our faculty are physicians who don't have much time to check their emails, especially if they need to scroll through and delete spam mail, which can hide important messages. A cleaner inbox is easier to use and saves time, probably an hour a week per user. That might not sound like much, but we had physicians with inboxes so full of spam they stopped checking their emails, which is no longer the case. Our catch rate is up significantly, and our false positives have dropped considerably, saving the end user time.” - A PeerSpot user who is a DevOps Director at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics

“I can't tell you the number of times that their web interface has saved me. I had server issues but I still needed to be able to look at what emails I would have received if my email server had been working correctly. SpamTitan has a reporting functionality that showed me what emails would have been sent. I could actually see the content of those emails. For me, several times, that has been a real lifesaver.” - Walter H., An Enterprise Architect at Unified System Solutions, Ltd.

“Its algorithms are doing a very good job in terms of the false positive rate. We have some regular mail that gets caught and some spam mail that gets through, but they're just balancing the line between spam and regular mail. We do catch a lot of spam, the amount of spam on an average day ranges from 65-85%. The Link Lock also reduces the risk when clicking on a link in an email, it removes a lot of concern about harmful links.” - A PeerSpot user who is a Cloud & Infrastructure consultant at a tech services company.
