We performed a comparison between BMC TrueSight Operations Management and Nagios Core based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two IT Infrastructure Monitoring solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."We're using native monitoring capabilities for all our server hardware, for visibility for applications, for URLs, for webpage response and accuracy, and for monitoring network throughput in a lot of particular instances. We're using lightweight protocols for pinging, for DNS, for LDAP."
"What I like best about BMC TrueSight Operations Management is that it allows you to do granular monitoring and improves VM load."
"I use the solution to monitor servers, databases, Windows, Linux, and web services."
"The fact that they have a very integrated relationship with Sentry Software, the Knowledge Module, is valuable... The richest feature for us is the number of Knowledge Modules that we can load into the product to add breadth of service to the customer. It enables us to move up the operational stack from hardware, to operating system, to application, and to cloud... That enables us to provide one pane of glass over all those layers - hardware, OS, app, and cloud."
"It provides common administration, and a Single Sign-On Platform with RBAC, which eases the cross launch between multiple tools"
"I like the event management part."
"The noise reduction for ticketing works much better than we have seen in a lot of other companies."
"The most valuable features of BMC TrueSight Operations Management are the blackouts and event management."
"I like the way the solution sends alerts and how it keeps on escalating them."
"The most valuable features are the reports and the way it generates the report in a graphical manner."
"The notifications are definitely one of the most valuable features of Nagios Core. We know what to look for and what to expect when things are down."
"Key features include the GUI interface, its notification capabilities, and the real-time reporting."
"Nagios Core is stable."
"Nagios Core is very configurable. Whatever you want, you can do it."
"It has made the life of the network operations staff more proactive in managing the resources of the infrastructure. It prevents disasters long before they can take place."
"Alert calls occur anytime a service goes down or a matrix is difficult and that helps us to quickly restore service and transfer work."
"The graphs are extremely limited. We don't have a lot of dashboard options. To make reports and dashboards more useful, we usually need to integrate some dashboard solutions."
"There are some small limitations with this tool in terms of reporting dashboards that fit all of the requirements of the individual customer."
"In a large company of our size, we need multiple people in our company trained. So, I have to take the training classes. Then, I have to go and train the rest of my organization. I would prefer to say to the other people on my team, "Go to this link and..." Or, "Here's a list of training sessions that you can go to which are online and that are free." I think it would help the adoption of their product in the marketplace, personally."
"BMC TrueSight Operations Management could improve the reporting."
"The solution is a little obsolete."
"More modules for less popular applications and better documentation."
"It would be better if the initial setup and deployment were more straightforward."
"We were somewhat limited in TrueSight due to some of the RBAC controls not quite being what we wanted as far as delegating out administrative privileges for implementation. But because we were able to turn requests around pretty well, that burden wasn't too heavy."
"There is room for improvement in the graphics."
"Nagios Core is limited in terms of distributed setups, and there is no central view for remote data centers."
"The tool needs to improve the integrations."
"Nagios Core can improve the graphical interface, it would make things a little easier."
"The scalability needs improvement, it's not scalable at this time."
"Making it a little easier to configure and set up from the start would help. There are multiple layers that you have to wade through to be able to set it up, to do it the right way, and to get it to do what you want it to do."
"The dashboard and monitoring features could be improved."
"We're using the free version, which limits us in terms of the things that we can do. If we had the paid version, a lot of our issues would probably go away. For example, we can't isolate instances that are being built or updated with the production ones. When they're being built, on Nagios, they're showing in red. It'd be nice to be able to partition those off until they're all green, and then we can bring them into the environment. This is probably because we've got the free version and not the paid version. If we went for the paid version, it would probably allow us to do exactly what we want to or remove the restrictions that we have, but if we are able to isolate instances in the free version, it would make life much easier."
