We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The remote services feature is definitely the most valuable, along with the capability to print remotely.""If I could give it an 11 out of 10 I would, but I definitely give it a 10. It saves me time, it saves me headaches, it saves me a lot of problems, and I'm able to fix things quickly and move on. I can get in and out of the computer without anyone really even knowing that I fixed something.""The biggest thing is the flexibility, you can use it as long as you can get an internet connection. You can use it pretty much anywhere you're at. It just makes it a lot easier. We are a small staff, and if nobody is in the office, LogMeIn gives us secure access to get in there.""The ability to easily connect back and retrieve data from the computer systems that I have.""Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""You don't have to remember the password and the login all the time. Once you get it in there, it's in there, and you can go about your business.""I can connect to them remotely and do all the functions I would have to do by manually driving to them, so it does make things a lot easier.""It's even simple to remotely add a computer to our group. We can send a link to that computer and they just follow the prompts on the screen and they are ready to go - we can access it. It's very user-friendly."

"Installing Microsoft Desktop Services is straightforward.""The installation is straightforward.""I give the stability a nine out of ten.""The most valuable feature of Microsoft Remote Desktop Services is its security and simple configuration.""The solution is scalable.""The performance meets our requirements and the stability is good.""I like the way it can assess our system.""I like that it works. In most cases, it's predictable. You know what you get."

Cons
"It's never cheap enough. If we got it for free, that would be perfect. But I know it's not and won't be free. It's always going to be too expensive for me because we're a small company.""At certain times of the day, during the "rush hour," it's very slow. I don't know if it's the latency of the internet or the amount of people on it in the afternoon at 4:00, 5:00pm. Getting data transferred takes a longer time than other times of the day.""The user interface needs improvement. Mostly, it's pretty intuitive for what I need to do, but the extra elements to it seem very complex, so I don't really try to even use those. For example, document sharing, file stuff. I can do the log-in part, but the additional features are kind of complex.""Unfortunately, LogMeIn is a long ways from being perfect. It has a lot of really great features, though they don't always work well.""It would be helpful if there were more things that you could do outside of having to log into the machine, such as being able to raise a command line and reboot the computer if, for whatever reason, it doesn't want to let me in.""With Windows 10 we've had some issues with it crashing, and certain antivirus products cause it to fail. For the most part it's stable, but we do have an occasional crash mainly related to new operating systems. The new Microsoft Server and the new Windows operating systems sometimes have issues with it. But for the most part, in anything under, say, Windows 7, Windows 8, those seem to be pretty stable, and with the Microsoft Server 2012 and below, it's all stable. And I don't necessarily think it's LogMeIn. I think it may be Microsoft, to be honest with you.""As far as the usability of it, I'd like to see if printing could be enabled in the basic version or the medium version. Some of the remote printing isn't available unless you go to the premium versions, and that's disappointing.""The only issue is that they could have a tier between 10 seats and 50."

More LogMeIn Pro Cons →

"The solution should have better security.""The performance of Remote Desktop Services could be better.""I would say it's expensive as there similar products available for free.""Microsoft Remote Desktop Services needs to improve its security.""I would like to be able to leverage it on other operating systems.""The solution should introduce a chat feature for end users.""The biggest reason we don't use the solution for our company's clients is the solution's prices.""Sometimes the server stops working, and we don’t know why. Occasionally we’ll get a message to the effect of "There is no remote license.""

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is very good."
  • "If you subscribe the package of 100 Agents, but install 5, you are still paying for the 100 agent package."
  • "Pricing has been going up for just going back and forth between two computers. Last year I called and complained, they gave me a deal. This year, it's gone up to $350. I'm looking for a new source. It seems to be getting expensive for me to look back and forth. Come up with a different level of service for just communicating with two computers; I use it, maybe, five minutes a day."
  • "Pricing is what I'm upset with. Now, that they bought everybody up, the price doubled."
  • "To be honest with you, I use it just for login and the prices are getting too high so we're going to look for an alternative solution. It used to be a couple of hundred dollars a year, now it's like $600 a year. We're definitely going to be switching shortly. Every year they have significant increases."
  • "We're paying $839 a year, so we're paying about $70 a month. We're using the smallest version of Pro."
  • "I have a tiered pricing. If I wanted to subscribe for three years, I will get a discount for that."
  • "It is pricey. When they renew me, they always boost it up, I call them and they cut it back a little bit."

  • "The pricing is moderate."
  • "The solution has a perpetual license and it is purchased upfront."
  • "It will probably cost about $500 USD to get the resources set up in the cloud."
  • "Although not an expensive product, pricing is always something that can be improved."
  • "It's not an expensive solution."
  • "It's not an expensive product."
  • "Its licensing is on a yearly basis. We're on the educational or academic license, and our terms are good. We're very happy with the pricing."
  • "The pricing could always be improved."

    Overview
Helping people and businesses access their digital lives from virtually anywhere, on any device.

Microsoft Remote Desktop Services is a highly regarded remote access tool in addition to being a top-ranked Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution in the marketplace today.

Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS) is a suite of valuable elements of the Windows operating system (OS) that serve specific desired objectives. Microsoft RDS integrates various features that allow approved users to gain access to graphical desktops and Windows applications remotely. Approved users are able to deploy applications or even a complete desktop without having to install anything on their devices. Everything remains in the cloud. This ensures that there are never any compatibility issues and keeps the organization's original network secure at all times. Administrators are also able to ensure that data cannot be stored in any unapproved location, such as the local device, unapproved drives, or any other location.

Microsoft RDS makes it easy for business organizations to access Windows Desktops and other Windows applications remotely to ensure today’s busy enterprise organizations are able to maintain the highest levels of productivity at all times. There are two basic ways organizations can effectively utilize RDS.

    • Microsoft Remote Desktop Component: This allows users to connect with various alternate desktops from their current device. Once the user has gained a secure connection based on the approved administrative permissions, the user can seamlessly access and interact with the remote desktop. Users have the feeling of having this new virtual desktop installed directly on their machine.

    • RemoteApp: Users are able to easily access cloud-based applications via their own personal desktop computers or other approved mobile devices. This application ensures overall application management is centralized and consistent throughout the entire business enterprise.
