We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is great for service level agreements and can comply fully with internet monitoring or any interface.""The solution is scalable.""The sensors and remote probes are phenomenal. We use them for all of our global sites. The problem with our global sites are that they are all VPNs. If the link goes down, you can't monitor other solutions, as it just goes off the grid. Having remote probes allows them to still carry on and get the information that we need when it comes back up, sending the information to us.""I like the mobility of the PRTG Network Monitor and ITOps Dashboard.""PRTG Network Monitor is a very stable product.""The solution provides us response times to issues.""The installation is not that complex.""The most valuable features of PRTG Network Monitor are user-friendly, and the graphical interface is good for all the network devices that are mapped in this organization. It's very easy to find reports for any devices that we are looking for."

"The way this solution has helped us is that it improved our communication.""The most valuable features of the solution are discovery, cloud governance, event management, and service mapping.""I like the tool's discovery feature.""I like the tool's CMBD connection with Discovery. The solution is also flexible.""The solution allows you to subscribe to the features you need and utilize CMDB, ITSM, and discovery on the same platform.""The scalability of ServiceNow is good.""Has service mapping, impact management, metric intelligence and health of analytics.""It is a market leader and is very implementation-friendly. Developers have a clear understanding of how the solution works, and it is mature enough to handle different client needs."

Cons
"I would like a more straightforward ability to create dashboards and maps. The network maps should be a bit more flexibility in the GUI to do what we need to do.""In a very few cases, customers want more detailed reports, which we cannot meet.""This solution is a good product so far, but I haven't been using it long enough to know how it could be improved.""PRTG access works best from the web GUI. There are dedicated apps on Windows/Android/iOS, but they are slow and don’t work as well as the web GUI.""It probably has this already, but if it had a mobile app that would be helpful. For example, on a day like today when I'm out, if I could just fire it up and see green, green, green, green, green or red, that would be good.""We have had a few issues with the web elements, as far as the dashboard. With the dashboard, it has to be manually refreshed. Occasionally, we reboot the server, or at least web services, due to the web aspect.""The scalability of this solution could improve as well as the automated provisioning of the infrastructure.""In terms of sensors and probes, it would be really cool if PRTG had a purely Azure-based solution. We had to install a probe on one of our cloud servers and then let that probe out from there. It would be really cool if it just monitored Azure without having to install something on the device."

More PRTG Network Monitor Cons →

"My managers would say that the price is too high. We wanted to also have the visibility version of it, but it's too expensive for us. Going for visibility would have doubled up the price.""ServiceNow IT Operations Management could do a little bit better with integrations. Integrating ServiceNow IT Operations Management with CMDB processes needs a little more work.""I advise others not to customize a lot while using the solution.""There are not enough apps in the app store to expand functionality. There should be more made available.""The setup and deployment could be simplified, and the pricing could improve.""An area for improvement for ServiceNow IT Operations Management is making service mapping and discovery easier for non-IP devices.""The tool can be improved by including more detailed information to assist new users.""Service Mapping is a time-consuming process. The time and effort versus the benefits are very difficult to articulate to customers."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
