Reliable, works well, and is quick to deploy
Pros and Cons

  • "Sometimes the server stops working, and we don’t know why. Occasionally we’ll get a message to the effect of "There is no remote license.""

What is our primary use case?

We use it in our bank.

We have some servers, and more than two users go remotely with them. We prepare with the Microsoft engineer servers that take them and the license for the users when they need them.

How has it helped my organization?

It has generally improved how our organization functions.

What is most valuable?

The solution is now stable.

The initial setup is simple. It's quick to deploy.

It works well and does what we need it to do.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes the server stops working, and we don’t know why. Occasionally we’ll get a message to the effect of "There is no remote license."

For how long have I used the solution?

I’ve been using the solution for about one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

While we had a problem before, now everything is stable. It’s reliable now. We’ve dealt with our issues and no longer have troubles.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I can’t speak to the scalability. I’ve never attempted to scale. That’s handled by someone else in the company.

Right now, we have 50 licenses available to us. We use the solution quite extensively.

How are customer service and support?

I’ve never dealt with technical support for issues related to the stability problem. I can’t speak to how helpful or responsive they would be. Other team members deal with them. We do have a support contract with Microsoft.

I have dealt with them on Teams on Active Directory and found them to be helpful. I found their help to be excellent.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We already had a license with Microsoft, and therefore, it was natural to use this product as well.

How was the initial setup?

It’s not difficult to set up. It’s pretty straightforward.

The deployment is pretty fast. It only takes about an hour and a half. We only needed to have three people handle the deployment and maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

An engineer worked with us to set up the servers. We have machines joining the domain, and we have workgroup machines.

We handled everything in-house. We didn’t need the help of consultants.

What was our ROI?

I’m not sure if we have seen an ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I cannot speak to how much the solution costs. My understanding is that it is moderately priced in that it is not cheap or expensive. We ended up getting it when we renewed our license. It’s an extra feature with the broader Microsoft license.

What other advice do I have?

I’m not sure which version of the solution we’re using.

I’d recommend the solution to others. It’s solved problems for us and worked well.

I’d rate the solution nine out of ten.

We have a partnership with Microsoft.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Offers ease of use and deployment to users
Pros and Cons
  • "The product's initial setup phase was easy."
  • "In the past, my company had faced some issues related to the stability of the product. The product's stability can be improved."

What is our primary use case?

My company uses the capabilities of Microsoft Remote Desktop Services to connect with Windows from home.

What is most valuable?

I have never faced any issues working with Microsoft Remote Desktop Services. You can say that the tool has remote access functionalities that every system or network admin uses. In some case scenarios, we also get the end user to use Microsoft Remote Desktop Services. The tool is simple to use and simple to deploy.

What needs improvement?

Microsoft improves its UI experience in every upgrade.

In the past, my company had faced some issues related to the stability of the product. The product's stability can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Remote Desktop Services for more than 10 years. I am an end-user of the tool.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution an 8 out of 10.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution an 8 out of 10.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase was easy.

I haven't done the product setup process for a long time.

For those who use Microsoft Azure service, the solution is deployed on the cloud model. If someone uses Windows Server, the solution can be deployed on an on-premises or a local cloud model.

What was our ROI?

Actually, there are many many other products that provide remote access capabilities. If we compare Microsoft Remote Desktop Services with the other products, I would recommend the virtual network console and maybe a communication application that can be used with Linux OS. If you start with Microsoft, Remote Desktop Services is a very good tool.

What other advice do I have?

The remote work concept came into the picture after COVID-19. Before COVID-19, I was a network admin. Many people were using Microsoft Remote Desktop Services for remote access. In my company, if we are at home and want to check if all the backups are taken care of by automated operations and other related activities, we use Microsoft Remote Desktop Services to connect to the Windows Server.

My company uses many Microsoft products, like Office 365, Microsoft teams, MS Office, Excel and SharePoint. Every company uses Microsoft products. All the four companies I have worked at in the past use Microsoft.

I rate the tool an 8 out of 10.

Easy to implement and offers good remote desktop features but needs more granular policy control
Pros and Cons
  • "It's largely stable."
  • "We'd like more granular security control of the desktop services."

What is our primary use case?

We use it on the customer side. We use the product as remote desktop services.

What is most valuable?

We've been satisfied with the product overall.

The remote desktop features are great. It allows users to work remotely. We can take a remote session on the server.

It's largely stable.

The solution is easy to implement.

What needs improvement?

We'd like more granular security control of the desktop services. Right now, we have a third-party solution that does this.

We need to control via group policies. We need to be able to implement these policies in a simpler way in order to control users in a more granular way.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution since 2010. I've used it for over ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is mostly stable. I'd rate the stability five out of ten. We are not able to control or protect without group policies. With a better ability to make policies, it will become stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not attempted to scale the solution. We're using it for on-premises reasons only. All the customers are here.

How are customer service and support?

We do not contact technical support directly. We simply rely on Google and seek out our own answers if needed.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used different solutions in the past. We found it was easier to centralize control and maintain better security with it.

How was the initial setup?

For the most part, it is easy to implement. However, the management is dependent on group policies.

How many people you need to deploy the solution depends on the size of the environment required.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not aware of the exact pricing. I work on the implementation side.

What other advice do I have?

We had been working as a partner for Microsoft.

I'd rate the solution five out of ten.

Microsoft needs one centralized console to manage all of its components. That would make it better.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, simple to set up and easy to deploy
Pros and Cons
  • "It's simple to set up."
  • "The solution isn't as good as the Citrix option."

What is our primary use case?

The first use case was related to the development and testing environment. Before COVID, it was also for remote connections for work from home, to have access to a protected environment.

What is most valuable?

The solution has improved a lot.

It's simple to set up.

It is stable.

The solution can scale according to the hardware available.

What needs improvement?

The solution isn't as good as the Citrix option.

For how long have I used the solution?

I used the solution for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable, reliable product. There are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are some limitations in terms of the the ability to expand. It's scalable according to the hardware limitation or the virtual environment limitation.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've also used Citrix. I prefer Citrix to Remote Desktop connections. The management and flow are better.

Hyper-V is also challenging Citrix. However, Citrix has a strong reputation still.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was not complex at all. It was very straightforward.

The connection for the client is embedded in the system. You just need to configure the servers and credentials.

What was our ROI?

We did not calculate an ROI, however, it does offer more features than we needed and therefore offers great value for money.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not sure about the licensing. The licensing policies are changing in the Microsoft environment, so I'm not sure how it's licensed at this time.

My understanding is that it is expensive. Even if we negotiate, it depends on the business you have and the volumes you run an issue for.

With the rules changing, the licensing can be complex.

What other advice do I have?

I was a reseller and partner.

I'm not sure which version of the solution I used.

We started using the solution on-premises and then deployed it to the Azure cloud.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. It's simple to deploy. Users just need to negotiate a price and handle tasks around their server license.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure

Easy to set up, bundled for cost-savings, and easy to expand
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is stable."
  • "The performance depends on connectivity."

What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect is it is handy. We just start up the servers, and we can call the remote desktop, and it's connected. And that's it.

The product is stable.

It is easy to set up.

The solution is highly scalable.

What needs improvement?

The performance depends on connectivity. The refreshing screen rate is based on the internet and the bandwidth. It can therefore be unstable.

It would be nice if they had a portable version. This would make it much better. Sometimes we cannot install it on some machines. We just want to use it once and don't need to actually install it anyway, yet we can't.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability depends on the connectivity. If there is terrible connectivity, it will be unstable. In general, if the connectivity is there, I would rate it four out of five in terms of stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability has been very good.

We have about 20 licensed users on the solution right now.

How are customer service and support?

I've never called technical support. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they are.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm familiar with TeamViewer and Desktop Anywhere. They are good, however, we are concerned they have issues surrounding security. That's why we prefer this product.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple. It's not a complex process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution comes in a bundle, which offers a cost-savings to customers.

I'm not sure of the exact price. I don't deal with that directly.

What other advice do I have?

I'm just an end-user.

It's on-prem and we have a server or a cluster to form a group of servers to provide. We are our access from other countries as we have some colleagues working in Britain.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

The graphical user interface enables users to connect to servers easily
Pros and Cons
  • "Since the tool has a graphical user interface, it's easier for us to access the server."
  • "We face frequent disconnections."

What is our primary use case?

We have a lot of Microsoft services configured for different applications. We use the solution to access them.

What is most valuable?

Since the tool has a graphical user interface, it's easier for us to access the server. It's easier to connect to someone and explain it to them. It is easy to share and explain the features of the solution.

What needs improvement?

We face frequent disconnections.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for the past 4 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable enough. I rate the stability an 8 out of 10.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We are quite a large organization with 14,000 employees. Almost everyone uses the product on a daily basis.

How are customer service and support?

The support team takes a long time to get back to us. The team takes almost 2 days to respond to us. The wait time is longer than that of Azure and AWS’s support teams.

What other advice do I have?

The tool is the only way for us to connect to the servers. I will recommend the tool to others. If an organization has a Microsoft ecosystem, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services is the only out-of-the-box solution available. Installing anything else would be a hassle. Overall, I rate the solution an 8 out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Saves time and is convenient to use, but the stability must be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "The product saves time."
  • "The stability must be improved."

What is our primary use case?

I use the tool to switch to my company’s Windows desktop from my personal system.

What is most valuable?

The product saves time. It is convenient to use. It is a smart solution. The security is good.

What needs improvement?

The stability must be improved.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the product’s stability a six out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have a bunch of users.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is easy. It took five to seven minutes. The solution is cloud-based.

What about the implementation team?

We can do the deployment ourselves. We install an application and connect to the server. We must provide our credentials to connect to the tool.

What other advice do I have?

People who want to use the product must do a bit of research before making a decision. We faced compatibility issues since some users were using different operating systems. So, our organization asked us to use Microsoft Remote Desktop Services. Windows is a very common operating system used all over the world. Overall, I rate the solution a six out of ten.

I've been using the solution for one year.

We have never used Microsoft technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward.

The deployment only takes ten minutes.

We simply need the remote server parameters in order to make the connection and finalize the setup.

We only need one technical person to deploy and maintain the product. A system admin could easily manage it.

What about the implementation team?

As long as I have the remote server parameters, I can handle the setup myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We do have to pay a licensing fee. The pricing is not too expensive. It's very reasonable.
