I feel that it is a good product. The backup software has been much faster since we've deployed the solution. The solution has minimized the recovery time objective, and the recovery point objective, the RTO and RPO. Most customers are looking for to minimize downtime. The solution has helped ensure this.Technical support for this solution is very good.NetWorker has very good scalability. The solution is very stable, especially if you are using a RAC environment. The most valuable features for us at the moment are NFS, file system backup, and IP backup. When it was required that data had to be restored for our customer, it was accomplished successfully and this has kept our end users satisfied.

Cons
The back of virtual machines needs improvement. I know they're working on it. They're always doing new things but I think they still have a little bit more to do.This solution can be complex and difficult to administer because it supports all of the many platforms, so it would help if they could simplify it.Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't.Support for this product needs to be improved because I have seen a couple of cases where it is taking more than the required time to solve issues. We previously had difficulty with the support being foreign. The setup is not that straightforward or easy. Even the documentation is not generic or public like other products. You have to be a partner or you have to have a specific account and download it from the vendor themselves. You need quite a lot of human resources to maintain a Commvault environment, to keep it operational. Also, it would be nice to if there were an easier way set up some Commvault components. The HTML interface is a remarkable improvement. However, there are still some features that are not available in that interface that are available in the Java console, but I'm sure that will come with time.

There are too many reboots and the software requires constant updating.I haven't had a good experience with technical support. It takes them a very long time to resolve issues. It's not easy to integrate. We have to read a lot of documentation in order to configure the solution. We are able to do direct backups, but analyzing the logs is not straightforward. The deduplication needs improvement and it could use better integration. The software also isn't user-friendly like Convault or Rubrik. The solution errors and management aren't so good in comparison. We are looking forward to better stability in future versions. We would like support for tape space reclaim, using either the same or another pool.

Pricing and Cost Advice
In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually.Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair.

The pricing of this solution is very good. It's approximate, but I believe we pay around $20-30,000 a month in licensing. You have to buy the deduplication software separately from the license.Low cost is key.
