Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We primarily use Dremio to create a data framework and a data queue.""Dremio gives you the ability to create services which do not require additional resources and sterilization.""Everyone uses Dremio in my company; some use it only for the analytics function.""The most valuable feature of Dremio is it can sit on top of any other data storage, such as Amazon S3, Azure Data Factory, SGFS, or Hive. The memory competition is good. If you are running any kind of materialized view, you'd be running in memory.""Dremio allows querying the files I have on my block storage or object storage.""Dremio enables you to manage changes more effectively than any other data warehouse platform. There are two things that come into play. One is data lineage. If you are looking at data in Dremio, you may want to know the source and what happened to it along the way or how it may have been transformed in the data pipeline to get to the point where you're consuming it."

"With the changing business landscape, it is nice to access Qlik Sense through an external website. As an organization when we use QlikView Desktop, we need to connect to our internal network. We can access QlikView through the QlikView access point but the website has a little different look and feel than the desktop application.""The ETL component allows us to pull from many different sources, making pulling data in easy.""The most valuable feature is the interface for the end-user.""Qlik Sense has a modern look and feel and a very intuitive UI, so non-technical users find it very user friendly.""From siloed reports, we went to a centralized knowledge hub, combining cross-functional data, and helping decision-makers see the data as a whole, therefore making more informed decisions.""The ability to access data from multiple sources in one application. This has been invaluable.""The most valuable feature is the user experience.""It has allowed us to manage our staff more effectively and frees up time for our analysts to analyze new problems and opportunities."

Cons
"It shows errors sometimes.""They have an automated tool for building SQL queries, so you don't need to know SQL. That interface works, but it could be more efficient in terms of the SQL generated from those things. It's going through some growing pains. There is so much value in tools like these for people with no SQL experience. Over time, Dermio will make these capabilities more accessible to users who aren't database people.""We've faced a challenge with integrating Dremio and Databricks, specifically regarding authentication. It is not shaking hands very easily.""Dremio takes a long time to execute large queries or the executing of correlated queries or nested queries. Additionally, the solution could improve if we could read data from the streaming pipelines or if it allowed us to create the ETL pipeline directly on top of it, similar to Snowflake.""Dremio doesn't support the Delta connector. Dremio writes the IT support for Delta, but the support isn't great. There is definitely room for improvement.""I cannot use the recursive common table expression (CTE) in Dremio because the support page says it's currently unsupported."

"I would like to see Qlik add more DevOps functionality to their product. Currently, we have to turn to 3rd party products to handle things like Source Control, Code Deployment through environments, etc.""I am starting to work with Qlik Sense SaaS these days. This environment has its own reporting service, however, one of the things that could be better for the people that are already using Nprinting, is to have a Nprinting in SaaS.""The one thing I would probably try to add is some kind of tutorial since the tool has a lot of options to work with, and for someone who is just starting and does not have any prior experience, it can be a little overwhelming.""Currently, we are not very happy with the iPad or iPhone app because it is not working as we want.""Ad-hoc reporting capabilities would be ideal.""Dates. My goodness, working with dates in set analysis can be a nightmare! Much room for improvement.""The product could be improved by implementing a user-feedback ranking system.""I wish the product had the ability for slightly more customization. The out-of-the box charts and visualizations are fantastic, but I want to be able to tweak it without having to add outside extensions and widgets."

    Overview

Dremio is a data lake query engine tool that creates PDSs and VDSs on top of S3 buckets. It is used for managing simple ad-hoc queries and as a greater layer for ad-hoc queries. The most valuable features of Dremio include its ability to sit on top of any data storage, generate refresh reflections and create visuals, manage changes effectively through data lineage and data providence capabilities, use open-source, and address the problem of data transfer when working with large datasets. The use cases are broad, allowing for high-performance queries from a data lake.

    Reviews from Real Users

Qlik Sense stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its associative analytics technology and its remote access capability. Qlik Sense employs an associative analytics engine that gives users the ability to take their data analytics to the next level. Users can create visual connections between different datasets spread across their network, creating deep insights that enable users to gain a full understanding of their data. This engine is easily scaled up to allow a large number of users to benefit from the deep insights that it provides. Users can access Qlik Sense from anywhere in the world. Qlik Sense has an online portal that can be used consistently from anywhere at all. Having the ability to remotely analyze data gives users flexibility when it comes to choosing how to deploy their manpower.

Jarno L., the managing director of B2IT, writes, “The associative technology features are the solution's most valuable aspects. Qlik was the first company to implement an in-memory associative analytics engine. This basically means that all data is loaded into memory, but it also means that instead of joining data together, the data is associated together. From the front end, from the user interface point of view, data can be joined or included or excluded on the fly. It can be drilled down and drilled through and users can slice and dice it and that type of thing can be done from anywhere in the data to any other place in the data. It doesn't have to be predefined. It doesn't have to have hierarchies or anything like that.”

Tami S., the senior business intelligence analyst at the La Jolla Group, writes, “With the changing business landscape, it is nice to access Qlik Sense through an external website. As an organization when we use QlikView Desktop, we need to connect to our internal network. We can access QlikView through the QlikView access point but the website has a little different look and feel than the desktop application. We appreciate that Qlik Sense is browser-based and the user experience is the same whether at home, in the office or on a boat. As long as the user has internet access, performance is the same.”
