Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It has a lot of great features.""The most valuable feature is the alert notifications, which are categorized by severity levels: informational, low, medium, and high.""The native integration of the Microsoft security solution has been essential because it helps reduce some false positives, especially with some of the impossible travel rules that may be configured in Microsoft 365. For some organizations, that might be benign because they're using VPNs, etc.""Previously, it was a little bit difficult to find where an incident came from, including which IP address and which country. So in Sentinel, it's very easy to find where the incident came from since we can easily get the information from the dashboard, after which we take action quickly.""The AI and ML of Azure Sentinel are valuable. We can use machine learning models at the tenant level and within Office 365 and Microsoft stack. We don't need to depend upon any other connectors. It automatically provisions the native Microsoft products.""The automation feature is valuable.""Sentinel uses Azure Logic Apps for automation, which is really powerful. This allows us to easily automate responses to incidents.""There are a lot of things you can explore as a user. You can even go and actively hunt for threats. You can go on the offensive rather than on the defensive."

"The biggest reason why we chose Rapid7 was to gain value in a really quick time. Its deployment doesn't take months. It just takes a few days.""Rapid7 InsightIDR integrates well with other solutions. It's also easy to configure because Rapid7 InsightIDR has a lot of instructions posted on their website that customers can follow if they need to get the source log.""I like the tool's user analysis feature.""The log aggregation and storage provided by InsightIDR has shown no issues with scalability; aggregating over one hundred millions events daily.""Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten. As a cloud tool, the product is highly scalable.""The solution's initial setup is easy.""The web interface is great — very useful and user-friendly.""Integration with threat modeling from the Metasploit and InsightIDR repositories."

"The solution helps me to go back in time and search for different events. For example, if you wanted to know who activated an account; you could go back in time and find out.""SolarWinds is effective for server, network, and log monitoring. It's also good for IP address management. We also have a patch manager, but we're still working on getting that operational.""It's extremely easy to deploy.""The most valuable feature is the reporting.""SolarWinds is easy to configure, and it provides timely alerts.""The graphical user interface is very user-friendly. SolarWinds is a hybrid solution so you can use it across many platforms.""Some of the rules are most valuable because you can be notified about various things, such as spyware or things that are going on in the internal network.""It supports high availability, which is very helpful."

Cons
"Sentinel should be improved with more connectors. At the moment, it only covers a few vendors. If I remember correctly, only 100 products are supported natively in Sentinel, although you can connect them with syslog. But Microsoft should increase the number of native connectors to get logs into Sentinel.""If Sentinel had a graphical user interface, it would be easier to use. I would also like it to be more customizable.""There is some relatively advanced knowledge that you have to have to properly leverage Sentinel's full capabilities. I'm thinking about things like the creation of workbooks, how you do threat-hunting, and the kinds of notifications you're getting... It takes time for people to ramp up on that and develop a familiarity or expertise with it.""If their UI was a bit more streamlined and easy to find when I need it, then that would be a great improvement.""There are certain delays. For example, if an alert has been rated on Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, it might take up to an hour for that alert to reach Sentinel. This should ideally take no more than one or two seconds.""Given that I am in the small business space, I wish they would make it easier to operate Sentinel without being a Sentinel expert. Examples of things that could be easier are creating alerts and automations from scratch and designing workbooks.""Some of the data connectors are outdated, at least the ones that utilize Linux machines for log forwarding. I believe that Microsoft is already working on improving this.""We'd like to see more connectors."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"The reporting is the weakest aspect. There needs to be multi-level grouping for events (for example, group by user and destination). Right now, we can do a group by user and a separate table or group by destination. But I'd be more interested in where a person was logging into instead of who was logging in or where he was logging in.""Rapid7 InsightIDR is not intuitive to search for logs. It should be more user-friendly and improve the dashboards. We should be able to use ready-made templates instead of having to build one.""The solution's XDR agents cannot compete with the XDR solutions out there yet.""I feel it would greatly benefit from more supported log sources.""Customised alert recipients need to be added to allow better first-line action and quicker response. Configurable honeypots would be a welcome addition.""The dashboard is an area that could be simplified.""Needs a better ability to customize the check within the console.""It takes time for the product's support team to resolve issues, making it an area of concern where improvements are required."

More Rapid7 InsightIDR Cons →

"The only issue is the pricetag. SolarWinds is a costly solution.""I don't think SolarWinds is scalable enough. It is somewhat limited when I need to deploy it across multiple environments in a distributed architecture.""The product should improve the ease with which you can create event alerts. They are not as hard now but you need to have an easier way.""The reporting could be more robust. It can be a lot more granular and that will make it a lot more useful in comparison to how it is incorporated at the moment.""SolarWinds should improve its correlation capabilities. The correlation does not automatically detect and reduce the events fast enough. You have to manually do a correlation report, which means the tool is not scalable in many ways.""It can be difficult for users who are inexperienced with the solution.""I imagine we will have to develop our own reports soon, this seems to be more cumbersome.""There are no multiple dashboards which would allow you to see information side-by-side."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "I am sure that there are cheaper products out there, but none that meet so many of our needs whilst maintaining stability and usability."
  • "The team is very willing to work with companies. My suggestion is to call the Rapid7 sales department and see how they can help."
  • "Licensing is straightforward. If, for some reason, you don’t meet the minimum licensing requirements, there is a third-party managed service that can help."
  • "Accurately predict your licensing counts as this is a subscription based product."
  • "The pricing and licensing are competitive."
  • "Licensing is by endpoint and amount of retention time (at least ours is). Default retention was one year, but we are able to push the retention further if needed. There's also a provide-your-own-S3 option for longer retention if you don't want to pay for the additional retention years in your Rapid7 agreement."
  • "It is a reasonably priced solution."
  • "It is on a yearly basis. For our own company, for about 250 users, it was 16,000 euros a year."
  • More Rapid7 InsightIDR Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing is on devices, so if you have many, then this may be high."
  • "We do a yearly license renewal. For a year, the solution costs roughly $500,000 USD. There are no costs beyond this yearly fee."
  • "The pricing model would benefit from having package deals with other SolarWinds products."
  • "Licenses can only be purchased in blocks of fifty at a time."
  • "It is in the appropriate mid-range. It is not as expensive as some of the other solutions. It is also not cheap."
  • "The price of SolarWinds Security Event Manager is reasonable."
