We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Reports are allowed to be edited for aesthetic purposes, which is lacking in a lot of other dashboard tools.""The important feature is integration with source data. It connects to various ERP systems, including Workday, Intact, and others. It can also import actuals and compare them to PlanPoint quite easily.""We utilize planning on a daily basis, therefore we find it to be the most valuable product for our organization.""Automated reporting.""The most valuable feature of the solution is its dashboard.""It's very stable.""The integration with our payroll system to complete staff modeling during our budget and forecast processes.""It's very simple to create a new version and do some more modeling based on your need for planning things like headcount, other expenses, and revenue, everything is configurable within Workday."

"The engine being able to sit inside of our firewall is the most important feature.""The most valuable features are the ability for it to be integrated into our software solution and the AutoTag tool that allows us to quite quickly create and update the templates themselves.""The most valuable feature is that it provides good, dynamic document-generation performance and the documents are being generated reliably.""The design tool, with all of its features and sample output fidelity tests, and being able to work with JSON data and output PDF and HTML, were also both crucial.""From an integration perspective, they provide the code for you to easily integrate with existing applications.""We can develop any report at least five times faster.""The Windward solution was very fast to rollout, and it is proven.""The ability for users to have design and layout control is also critically important. Without this ability, procuring report designs would represent a huge bottleneck. Report design tools also enable upsell opportunities for customized reports, with quick turnaround times."

Cons
"Adaptive Insights could improve the data designer interface to make integrations easier to set up.""Their customer support team is slow to respond and not extremely confident.""We tried Discovery and OfficeConnect at one point and found them too cumbersome, at the time.""The product's configuration process could be faster.""The upload feature exists, but isn't terribly useful.""Being able to drill down when using OfficeConnect needs work.""Users continue to become more advanced and are looking for more advanced solutions.""Better user interface (UI)."

More Adaptive Insights Cons →

"About six months ago, we raised the possibility of improving the way they manage the HTML 5. Sometimes, when you insert a lot of data in the data source, you get an error because it is not managing HTML 5 features well. I believe they have addressed this in later versions of their product.""The reason it took us so long to get the system up and running is that the APIs could be improved a bit. It could be a little bit more interoperable with software, without having to do a lot of the heavy lifting that we had do to get it in.""They should add a document distribution solution on top of the document generation capability. It should allow us to send the generated document to a certain recipient (e.g. customer contact’s email address) based on a business-rules management system. That system would allow the end-user to manage a relationship between a document template and its recipient.""It is software, so there are always times where things don't work. Most of the time issues happen when trying to move to a new version. There might be problems with reports that were created in an older version, so either we have to make a tweak to the templates or we report it to them and get them to make an adjustment to their software.""We would like to shrink these reports into one page, because there is a lot of free space on one page, but we cannot shrink it into the one page to be shorter. This is one thing we would like to change.""It would be nice to have a black-and-white, ideal setup for servers, to maximize capabilities. We went through a lot of scenarios to get something that is scalable. An ideal AWS-package server setup could have saved us a lot of time. But I understand this is very company specific.""AutoTag needs to be web-based, so our customers can create reports from our web.""They're not a gigantic company, so they just don't have all the capital to do whatever they would want to do. That's the only reason I would hold back even that one point. I know that if I do ask for something, I'll get it. I just know that it will take some time."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Everything is negotiable, but this solution is low cost compared to others."
  • "Licensing seems to be worth the cost considering the efficiency Adaptive brings."
  • "Prior to purchasing licenses, make sure you understand which users will only need planning and which users will need both planning and OfficeConnect."
  • "Ensure that you have the proper pricing plan in place."
  • "Adaptive Insights' pricing is reasonable."
  • "Pricing is in line with other cloud-based EPM tools. It is a subscription-based model based upon the number of users and site type if it's an admin or end-user type thing."
  • "Adaptive Insights' pricing is relative to its peer competitors. It's certainly competitive compared to a spreadsheet template that you build in Excel. It can be expensive if you need to have 100-500 budget holders giving input and building financial plans. However, in that case, it becomes an extremely good bargain. Compared to its competitors, it offers an excellent value."
  • "It's affordable."

  • "I can't advise anybody about pricing and licensing, but it was competitive. A lot of things we did look at were all volume-based, so it was a case of you buy a license to generate this many reports a year, and that's not something that I'm particularly interested in because it doesn't give you any idea - if we have future growth, or if we have a lean year - for budgeting reasons it's more difficult. With Windward it's a straight out license fee, whether we generate one page or we generate a million, it makes no difference."
  • "They are fair and flexible. They are willing to work with your current architecture to make sure you have the best deal."
  • "CapEx fits our requirements, OpEx is higher due to the 20% service and maintenance cost, where we normally pay 15%."
  • "It is absolutely worth the value. They have flexibility, depending on what you're looking for from a buying standpoint. The current pricing models are quite flexible, with the ability to use it on an as-needed basis, or to get a perpetual license that covers a customer that might have extensive needs. I think it's pretty good."
  • "For what you're getting, it's an extremely good value."
  • "The only problem with the pricing of Windward is the limitation on the number of reports generated. It is costly in that sense. If you want to increase, you have to pay more, based on the number of reports generated per day. It is not the same with Crystal Reports. With the latter, you buy a license at one point in time and that's it."
  • "From my experience in this field, the product is reasonably priced, at least with the RESTful engine implementation. It's definitely not a cheap option. People say, "That's a fair amount of money to pay for a document generation tool." At the same time, you do get good functionality and the support is good."
  • "Pricing is something I complain about. Production pricing is okay, but for a testing environment the pricing looks a bit high to me."
