Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The best feature is the customization.""One of its most valuable features is the graphical user interface, providing a visual representation of the pipeline status, successes, failures, and informative developer messages.""Since Apache works very well on Python, we can manage everything and create pipelines there.""The product is stable.""Its user-friendly interface makes it straightforward to operate, offering a plethora of features for data preparation, buffering, and format conversion.""The tool is user-friendly.""Since the solution is programmatic, it allows users to define pipelines in code rather than drag and drop.""Apache Airflow's best feature is its flexibility."

"Kofax TotalAgility is a great design tool for reading handwritten invoices.""The product is really good, and it is easy to use. It comes with multiple integrations. The solution keeps up with the trend of Microsoft Copilot and AI.""Kofax TotalAgility is a single package. They provide you with OCR capabilities, BPM capabilities, and case manager features.""The tool is low code which saves you from a developer.""The most valuable features of this solution are automation, ease of billing processes with the process net, and low to no code development.""Essentially, Kofax TotalAgility as a whole is quite nice. As of now, we've only been able to use and explore its document classification and extraction capabilities. We haven't explored and used the case management capability yet, but the scan and capture capabilities we've been using heavily and those are quite good. Our solutions are mainly around those areas of Kofax TotalAgility. We haven't explored the product a lot, but the capabilities we've explored are good.""Now it has an OCR, optical character recognition, engine where it can extract data from the document.""What I find most valuable in Kofax TotalAgility is its OCR feature. I also find its workflow and business process management capabilities valuable. Kofax TotalAgility also has good integration with other solutions and has an API call feature."

Cons
"Apache Airflow could be improved by integrating some versioning principles.""I have some issues with the solution's communication.""Apache Airflow should have better integration with cloud platforms.""The automation capabilities could be improved; a visual workflow designer and a graphical tool to reduce coding would be very helpful. But for now, it's sufficient for our simple workflows.""We cannot run real-time jobs in the solution.""I want to see Apache Airflow have more integrations with more production-based databases since it is an area where the product lacks currently.""The solution could be improved by simplifying the integration process.""We have faced scenarios where Apache Airflow becomes non-responsive, leading to job failures. To resolve such situations, we had to manually reboot Apache Airflow since it doesn't provide an option to restart within the application. This necessitated modifying some configurations to initiate a restart of all Apache Airflow components. Although Apache Airflow is generally dependable, it may occasionally encounter glitches that can disrupt production flows and batches."

"The product's console version is old. It should also improve its forum.""It’s not truly low code yet, as every two or three projects, you will have a situation where you have to go behind the essential things. You will definitely still need to customize.""Table line item extraction is not possible through Quick Capture.""Lacks sufficient inbuilt features.""The one thing I would like to see more of right now: is a simplified form creation. That would be the most significant improvement I would like to see in their product.""They provide sufficient but not excellent technical support. Perhaps there is a point where they could use some improvement.""Kofax TotalAgility could improve the OTR engine. The page OTR engine is not accurate in predicting the data properly. If you provide many features which are good for business process management without an accurate OTR engine people will not want it.""Room for improvement would be better OCR functionality in terms of Arabic OCR. There should be better accuracy."

  • "We use a community edition of Apache Airflow. It is open source and free."

  • "It is slightly more expensive than other tools."
  • "Kofax TotalAgility is very expensive."
  • "It has a perpetual license. You pay once in a lifetime for the volume of scans you will do and the number of users you will have. You can have participants or regular users, and you can have developers and administrators. So, once you purchase it, it is for a lifetime, and then every year, you have to pay for the maintenance. There is an annual maintenance cost, which is about 18% of the licensing cost."
  • "The price of this solution is less than some of the competition."

    Overview

Apache Airflow is an open-source workflow management system (WMS) that is primarily used to programmatically author, orchestrate, schedule, and monitor data pipelines as well as workflows. The solution makes it possible for you to manage your data pipelines by authoring workflows as directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) of tasks. By using Apache Airflow, you can orchestrate data pipelines over object stores and data warehouses, run workflows that are not data-related, and can also create and manage scripted data pipelines as code (Python).

    Apache Airflow Features

Apache Airflow has many valuable key features. Some of the most useful ones include:

    • Smart sensor: In Apache Airflow, tasks are executed sequentially. The smart sensors are executed in bundles, and therefore consume fewer resources.
    • Dockerfile: By using Apache Airflow’s dockerfile feature, you can run your business’s Airflow code without having to document and automate the process of running Airflow on a server.
    • Scalability: Because Apache Airflow has a modular architecture and uses a message queue to orchestrate an arbitrary number of workers, you can easily scale it.
    • Plug-and-play operators: With Apache Airflow, you can choose from several plug-and-play operators that are ready to execute your tasks on many third-party services.

    Apache Airflow Benefits

There are many benefits to implementing Apache Airflow. Some of the biggest advantages the solution offers include:

    • User friendly: Using Apache Airflow requires minimal python knowledge to get started.
    • Intuitive user interface: The Apache Airflow user interface enables you to visualize pipelines running in production, monitor progress, and also troubleshoot issues when needed.
    • Easy integration: Apache Airflow can easily be integrated with cloud platforms (Google, AWS, Azure, etc).
    • Visual DAGs: Apache Airflow’s visual DAGs provide data lineage, which facilitates debugging of data flows and also aids in auditing and data governance.
    • Flexibility: Apache Airflow provides you with several ways to make DAG objects more flexible. At runtime, a context variable is passed to each workflow execution, which is quickly incorporated into an SQL statement that includes the run ID, execution date, and last and next run times.
    • Multiple deployment options: With Apache Airflow, you have several options for deployment, including self-service, open source, or a managed service.
    • Several data source connections: Apache Airflow can connect to a variety of data sources, including APIs, databases, data warehouses, and more.

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the Apache Airflow solution.

A Senior Solutions Architect/Software Architect says, “The product integrates well with other pipelines and solutions. The ease of building different processes is very valuable to us. The difference between Kafka and Airflow, is that it's better for dealing with the specific flows that we want to do some transformation. It's very easy to create flows.”

An Assistant Manager at a comms service provider mentions, “The best part of Airflow is its direct support for Python, especially because Python is so important for data science, engineering, and design. This makes the programmatic aspect of our work easy for us, and it means we can automate a lot.”

A Senior Software Engineer at a pharma/biotech company comments that he likes Apache Airflow because it is “Feature rich, open-source, and good for building data pipelines.”
