"I personally find Veritas NetBackup Applicance hassle-free.""The product enables me to recover the information of the appliances in the organization.""This is a good backup interconversion solution because all the masters and the targets backups are on the same system. It is easy to administrate for a single point of access for clients.""It has a lot of very good features. The virtual tape library (VTL) feature is most valuable. Overall, it is easy to use.""It has been our go-to product for backup.""I think the solution is very intuitive, effective, and easy to use.""The solution has a very easy-to-navigate user interface.""We find the pricing is reasonable."

Cons
"When you get down to doing certain things, such as somebody wants a particular file restored, the process by which you do that is stupid. You kind of have to know exactly where to look for in order to find it. Even on older backup products that I've used, I didn't have that kind of problem. If we were looking for a file with a particular kind of a name, the solution would find that file anywhere irrespective of where it resides within the backup system. So, we didn't have to know the name of the specific server, the specific timeframe, almost all the characters of the file name, and all kinds of data in order to find a file. In Avamar, we got to know these details. We've gone around and around with them on that, and their attitude seems to be that it is working just fine. There is nothing for them to improve. The organizational system of other products that I'm working with, such as Zerto and Cohesity, seems to be centered around the tasks that you would most commonly do and want to do, as opposed to we've laid it out in a really neat technical hierarchy.""The bare-metal restores could be improved.""The performance takes up a lot of resources, unfortunately.""The solution could be a bit easier to use in the sense that they need to make it simpler to backup products and restore items.""The licensing model is not very flexible. Every time we upgrade our storage size, we need to upgrade the Avamar license.""It's not the best solution for big databases.""It would be helpful if the product offered more integration potential.""Technical support should be more knowledgeable."

"More licensing options could be introduced to the software. It is currently based on capacity only. Compared to competitors, it is difficult to position it economically everywhere. From the usability point of view, they are making many improvements on new interfaces, the SaaS offering, etc.""The scalability isn't great. Every time you want to add storage, you can't just add a little bit, you need to add a lot.""The hybrid model is not that efficient if we want to off-site data; it takes a lot of time to upload the data on a regular basis.""The reporting feature can be improved.""The desirability of appliance solutions is dwindling in the marketplace.""I would like the ability to recover a single folder within the backup of a virtual machine.""I would like to see a product that requires less expertise to manage it.""Technical support for this solution needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is very expensive. It's a trust based licensing. So that's an ethical challenge."
  • "This solution is less expensive than Veeam for us, although it depends on the customer because we get a great discount."
  • "I'm not sure, but perhaps the pricing could be done better at the moment."
  • "The price is the main thing I'd like to see them change. If they can come down in price, that would be a good thing. It's very cost competitive in the entry level range, because Veeam pricing is much cheaper than Avamar."
  • "It was approximately $70-80,000 when it was under support, but right now EMC has not been supporting this product for two years."
  • "Licensing was generally on a per VM or terabyte basis. They changed their licensing model a couple of times and turned it into socket-based licensing, which is an improvement in their licensing model."
  • "When it comes to competition the price is not what is important, it's not the problem."
  • "The price of this product should be lower."

  • "The price of this solution is very high compared to other solutions."

  • "Appliances do not come cheaply."
  • "Overall, Veritas is a good solution; the problem is the cost."
  • "I cannot say whether our licensing costs are on a monthly or annual basis, as we have a global contract."
  • "The licenses are purchased on appliances with the capacity they require."
