We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"If you have a fair amount of experience with NetApp, you can work on it very easily.""The most valuable feature is the ease of file storage.""If anything happens, their technical support will come onsite and fix it.""ONTAP has been very stable for us, specifically in the cloud environment. It allows us to have high availability as well as standalone systems if that's what we want within our specific workloads. Also, on-premise has been a very stable environment. We have very few outages and when we do, we work with support to get systems back online in a timely manner.""The ability for our users to restore data from the Snapshots is very valuable.""Its functionality and technical support are adequate to help prevent failure due to errors.""SnapMirror helps mirror metadata and data volumes between endpoints in a data fabric.""The FlexClones make all the management easier for us."

"The most valuable features are the data center recovery administration and the time of recovery.""The most valuable feature is that it is journal-based and you don't have to replicate a lot of data.""The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any kind of bug or glitch. We haven't experienced crashes.""It is a point-in-time restore, which is quite handy.""Continuous replication with lower RTO and RPO is the most innovative feature. Its tight integration with VMware for VMware VMs is also valuable."

"The replication is the solution's most valuable feature. If we have some issues on the VM in the main site we can migrate it to another site automatically.""The most valuable feature is the integration with our Nutanix environment.""It's easy to use and the interface is quite simple.""Its capability to schedule, write and configure the recovery and scheduled steps, such that you don't have to come in and start manually trying to recover the entire machine. You just push a button to recover the VMware and everything is done.""The product is evolving and the vendor is committed to change.""The most valuable feature is disaster recovery testing.""The most valuable features are the disaster recovery and testing.""The most valuable feature is the simplicity of operations."

Cons
"When it comes to support provided by NetApp, they have room for improvement. Every time we go through their support, we end up answering the same routine questions.""The data tiering needs improvement. E.g., moving hard data to faster disks.""I would like to have more management tools. They are difficult to work with, so I would like them to be a bit more user-friendly.""The key feature, that we'd like to see in that is the ability to sync between regions within the AWS and Azure regions. We could use the cloud sync service, but we'd really like that native functionality within the cloud volume service.""I would like to see them improve the perspective of start and search in the panels. This would allow for better visualization of the contents that are captured in the tool.""The navigation on some of the configuration parameters is a bit cumbersome, making the learning curve on functions somewhat steep.""The only issue we had lately was that outside our VPC we could not reach the virtual IP, the floating IP. I heard that they have fixed that...""Scale-up and scale-out could be improved. It would be interesting to have multiple HA pairs on one cluster, for example, or to increase the single instances more, from a performance perspective. It would be good to get more performance out of a single HA pair."

More NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP Cons »

"I would like to see integration with EMC NetWorker in the next release.""In the next release of this software, I would like to see options that help to decrease the bandwidth required, such as compressing the data.""The solution is not easy to use. It's actually quite hard. If it could be simplified it might be better for the end user.""I would like to have the HTML 5 interface working because it is currently not functioning with the VMware environment.""It can have better integration. It would be good if, in addition to VMware VM, it can also support other hypervisors. I also want to see support for Oracle databases. As of now, it supports only SQL and Exchange. It would be good to also support other databases."

More Dell EMC RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines Cons »

"If you have a failover case, you need to work on it manually. It would be helpful if this could be automated. It would simplify things.""You need a lot of knowledge to work with the interface because it is not really easy to use, and it would be great if the dashboard were simplified.""Cost is definitely an area where the product could be improved.""What I think can be improved is the data replication aspect.""There are many functionality problems with the product currently. It is also slow and unstable.""The configuration process could be improved.""The interface is not easy to use and can be made more user-friendly.""The two vCenters have to be synchronized, which sometimes gives us problems because Keberos does not tolerate more than five minutes in time difference."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was good, but it was a test system, not a real purchase.""We purchased the product directly from NetApp.""The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable.""The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately.""Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration.""They allow a special price if you are working closely with them. Since we have a lot of NetApp systems, we got some kind of discount. That's something they do for other customers, not just for us. The price was fair. In addition to the licensing fees, you're paying Amazon for your usage...""The standard pricing is online. Pricing depends. If you're using the PayGo model, then it's just the normal costs on the Microsoft page. If you're using Bring Your Own License, which is what we're doing, then you get with your sales contact at NetApp and start figuring out what price is the best, in the end, for your company.""In addition to the standard licensing fees, there are fees for Azure, the VMs themselves and for data transfer."

More NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP Pricing and Cost Advice »

"This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive.""This is an expensive product.""Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."

More Dell EMC RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The price of this solution is on the expensive side.""The cost of SRM is a little bit high, especially for smaller companies.""The cost of SRM is on par with market rates.""The licensing costs are increasing.""It is about $3,000 a year for the 25 pack. The package gives you the ability to protect up to 25 virtual machines."
