Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The capacity to migrate machines onto VPLEX is great — it's very clean. We can migrate machines and add arrays easily.""The best feature of VPLEX storage is its ability to consolidate storage. It also provides the highest RPO and RTOs for replication technology. VPLEX enables application mobility.""The solution works well. It's very reliable.""Dell's technical support is awesome. We received instant support from EMC as long as we had an active contract.""Its mirroring capabilities allow for data to be mirrored across two different data centers, so if one center were to crash or fail, the other center could take over and keep everything running smoothly.""The most valuable feature is deduplication, as we have no duplication in the snapshots.""Mobility enables us to carry out an internal migration of data.""Storage virtualization and geographic resilience for Metro Sans, plus a great performance improvement."

"The initial setup is straightforward. It's not that complicated. Deployment took maybe about 15 minutes.""The platform helps us with efficient QoreStor deduplication (DD) capabilities and configuration.""It has File and SQL backup, which is the main benefit for us.""The solution allows us to block off our network and only give access to whatever we want.""The interface is very user-friendly.""Having the web-based interface is important to us because we can access it from any computer in the network, rather than having it installed and available for use only on a specific one.""If a job is pending, the solution communicates it to us through emails.""The user interface is good."

Cons
"There can be delays in getting performance reports.""The price is a problem with EMC due to the fact that it's more expensive than the other vendors.""VPLEX hardware migration to spare equipment in case of major disruption.""VPLEX's engine-based architecture is complex, so the implementation is challenging and takes more time. It's also difficult to fix hardware issues. When an appliance fails, it takes Dell EMC a long time to fix it because spare parts are in short supply.""Today, it needs a huge effort that is not acceptable during disaster recovery.""Dell VPLEX should improve its integration and user interface and be easier to configure.""The initial setup is complex.""I would like to have site-to-site replication capability for applications."

More Dell VPLEX Cons →

"The initial setup is a little complex.""The interface can be improved. It should be more clear what features are available and make them easy to find.""There are command-line limitations. There is not a very strong possibility to work with the command line. The commands that are there are not that powerful, and you need to be very good at scripting, for example, in PowerShell or in Bash in case it is running on Linux systems. You need to combine a lot of commands together, and still, you will not get a great output that is presentable to others. You cannot work with it as easily.""In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault.""There are certain issues with the product that we report to Quest, and we get offered a workaround instead of a fix. There could be better interaction with the development teams, perhaps in terms of transparency.""I would like to see the option of cloud-based management.""The product’s SQL backup plugin needs improvement.""The stability of the solution is poor."
